Vitaly followed up on a previous predator that one of his crew punched in the face and they had found out he was HIV positive. Whether those monsters are arrested, charged and convicted or not Vitaly is doing Gods work.

It’s the DAs, they refuse to prosecute crime. I live near Alvin Bragg of NYC and his refusal to prosecute makes me terrified of the crime spilling out onto my streets

Good intentions or not, unless you're law enforcement, you cant play in that dirty world as a civilian, without getting mud and grime on you as well. Search out predators, johns, and prostitutes at your own personal peril.

You can detain an individual, as a citizen, if you as a reasonable person are aware that they are committing a felony or a misdemeanor, so long as you inform them that you are conducting a citizens arrest. By California law.
They did not do their duty to correct arrest this man, and instead believed that publicly embarrassing him was worth losing the chance to have him charged and imprisoned.
vitaly isn't doing it for the right purposes even though the people deserve all the shenanigans he does to them there is no way they would ever get a conviction and the predator would get off and it makes other groups look bad and cops won't start taking them serious vitaly is going to run it for everyone who actually gets convictions he's just doing it for views likes and entertainment

From what I understand, it's easier for them to have the case dismissed this way. Perhaps a closer relationship with law enforcement would ensure an solid case? I obviously don't know.

The predators he catches will walk because he isnt building a case against them and is just harassing them. So because of this guy those predators will continue to offend. Alex Rosen on the other hand gets the people arrested and does not bully or harass them so things can actually stick in court.
Its good to catch the criminals but the way they are doing it can get out of hand really fast and they are too aggressive all it will take is one person to react in an aggressive response and someone could get hurt very badly. Fight or flight response is unpredictable and very dangerous.

Investigative journalism doesn't necessarily ruin an investigation, but if prosecution is a goal, the citizen with the hidden camera needs to (1) know the law - as in the elements of the crime, "that can't be legal, can it" doesn't count, (2) know the rules of evidence - paper and video doesn't just get shown in court - evidentiary foundation must first be laid, (3) know how to testify, make oneself available to testify and actually go to court to testify. The jury will never see the video unless the videographer or someone who was there can testify that the video is a fair, accurate and complete depiction of the encounter, (4) be aware that for prosecutor to ethically charge the case, he needs all the material the citizen journalist has regarding the case. He must get a copy of the video; he must get a copy of any other recording that gives context to the video; he will have his investigator interview anyone involved in the sting; *and,* significantly, he must disclose all of this to the defense, give them copies of the video, and give the defense contact and biographical information of all the participants so that he can interview them and look up their criminal histories to prepare for cross examination (one is not required to talk to the opposing side in a criminal case, but refusal to do so will be used in court to impeach the witness' credibility by showing bias).
Professional investigative journalists/activists need to be willing to abide by these guidelines, otherwise the state will not prosecute. For example, PETA cannot just put an undercover activist into, say, a sheep ranching operation to show animal abuse, then months later hand over portions of the recorded video the day before their suspect is due to fly back home to New Zealand, and expect that the prosecutor is going to be able to get that guy arrested and held without bond until trial. They cannot hide the identities of their operatives from the DA, and consequently, the defense, and expect the DA to prosecute. They cannot dictate or otherwise try to control the handling of the case - the properly sworn DA or one of his agents (career prosecutors) are the ones who get to determine if and what charges to file, if any. The DA gets to make any plea offer - he has no obligation to "prosecute to the full extent of the law" just because PETA feels really strongly about the case. The DA cannot over-charge the suspect to try to scare him into pleading guilty to something (at least, it would be an ethical violation if he does not believe that he will be able to prove the charges beyond a reasonable doubt at the time of the filing of the case). Perhaps if he has a good reason to believe he will shortly be in possession of evidence that would allow him to so prove the case at the time of trial, he could go ahead and charge it, but this sort of thing usually comes up when, for example, the results of the blood test for BAC comes back from the lab in a case where the officer observed enough indicia of intoxication to make a valid arrest - not , "Let's charge the case because the defendant is a bad guy," and hope that something will turn up later. Activist organizations also need to understand that their deeply held convictions about the righteousness of their cause do not somehow grant the investigation more credibility; hell, with a wacko organization like PETA, it probably makes the case *less* credible because their agenda is well known and considered extreme by ordinary people.
Anyway, Chris Hansen's show, from what I can tell, seems to do a decent job of trying to protect the case while doing their stings for news and entertainment reasons: They make sure that they have documented evidence that the suspect knows the age of the "victim" and is going to the house for the purpose of sex before inviting the suspect to the sting house (essentially, this means that they have PC to believe that the suspect as guilty of at least an inchoate crime connected to the sex assault on child even before the guy shows up - this is why the police arrest the suspect regardless of whether or not he takes the seat over there). They seem to work with local authorities to effect the arrest in the front yard after the encounter so that proving identity in court will not be a problem. They seem to understand that they will have to testify. They seem to make sure that their recording of the suspect complies with state privacy laws regarding who must consent to the recording to make it legal. Significantly, because they are working with the police, they avoid restraining or detaining the suspect because working with the police will likely cause them to be deemed and agent of the state, and therefore the suspect has 4th and 5th Amendment protections as to the media team that he wouldn't have if the police were not involved (and the police *must* be involved).
The reason why citizen investigative journalism often ruins cases is because the investigative reporter is unaware of (or doesn't care about) these potential problems and therefore do nothing to mitigate them, leaving the prosecutors with a case that they cannot legally prosecute.

This doesn't harm the chances of them getting caught because no one is trying to catch them in the first place. if they did get caught they would go through the system using their status and money to go out the backdoor and do it again. streaming is just live tv. If they violate TOS or the law, they get arrested and or their channel gets taken down. To catch a predator was wildly successful from what i remember.
