Way back in 1971, I had the privilege of playing in the MSU Jazz ensemble with Gary. He was a monster then, and obviously continued to grow. Didn’t realize he had passed until I saw this Video. Sorry to hear this.
I was honored to have Gary as my pianist for a few months a bunch of years ago. I'm a saxophonist, but am playing a lot of piano these days. I could use a lesson from Gary, but I'm in NYC and LA!
Billy Higgins a tremendous drummer but we had an argument when I was playing a clinic with him once I believe I called him out for drinking next moment I see him with a coffee in his hand. Anyway no hard feelings.
