I'd like to know the answer to this question, too. An example where one makes over the annual FEIE exemption would be helpful. I presume that one may want to reduce withholdings instead of eliminate them since you will be taxed on income that exceeds the annual limit? Is my presumption correct, @JasonDKnott?
Thank you for explaining this . Very helpful! Btw, if TP is working and living in foreign country, and her/his employer withholding social security in their country (not us fica), is there any way to claim or notify the US government? Or any form needed to file with 1040?
So helpful, thank you! Say, a U.S. citizen is living overseas and working for a company that has nothing to do with U.S., does this person need to find a U.S. tax preparer to file tax every year?
How does this apply if they start mid year but expect to work the same job for 3-5 years? Are they exempt the last few months of that first calendar year?
This form is only completed if you are on the payroll of a U.S. company and you are living abroad. A U.S. company is required to withhold taxes on U.S. tax residents if they live outside of the U.S., unless the employee completes this form.
Just started the onboarding process to a contracting services overseas...this helped a lot and made it very easy to understand. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for explaining the form in plain language. This clears up some confusion that I was having by reading the form itself.
Thank you very much, simple and straight to the point, appreciate you.
Thank you so much for explaining this to make sense to me and understanding it. Bless you
What if you're making more than $100K a year. How would you fill (Part II Estimated housing....) ? If you have expenses?

@JasonDKnott, I watched the video and was wondering, what would be the process if you move mid year to another country?
