Ok, imagine this big hulking man who is more than capable of holding his own in battle treating you with the delicacy of a flower and protecting you with his BIG arms. Its like a blanket of warmth cupped with the knowledge he is more than capable and willing to do what he can to not only make you comfortable, but feel safe. For a lot of people its filling in for something they never really got or had once and lost due to life being a bitch. For me I just find being engulphed by someone who only intends to protect you extremely soothing, like I can finally let my guard down and truly relax.
I think if you like Astarion and you want him to feel safe and loved with you... you are the very thing Halsin lovers respond to. Of course not everyone wants Astarion like that so ymmv
