The direction you took is the best direction BUT....if you get to Schynige Platte in the late afternoon, on a weekend and/or holiday, you may end up waiting in a line for up to an hour to get a seat on the train due to all the people that just come up and stay there. They then decend for the train like locusts! Also as tourists we get away with a lot of things in CH, BUT the Swiss really frown upon, and WILL say something about putting your feet up on public transport seats with your shoes on. Socks..OK, shoes...not so much (to say the least).
