imagine: It was the first annual ball of your school which meant you could attend it with anyone you want. A romantic date sort of an event it was. And there you were, waiting for a person to ask you out but no one did and your pride was too hard to step on and ask a guy out. You watched every single friend of yours get asked out, you felt alone and insecure seeing that no one was asking you out. You gave up the hope of having a partner, You stepped out of the ballroom, wanting to use the restroom. Nothing but pure silence, tranquility was the word to describe it, pure calmness and peace. No music was heard in the hallway of the huge building at first .
But of course, solitude covered you as soon as you heard the calm ballroom music and faded laughs of young couples coming from the closed off ballroom. Suddenly a thud was heard from behind. Being both anxious and curious, you turned around. Nothing but a closed off door. Defeated in front of the curiosity you had inside, you opened it but it was an ordinary ballroom just like the one your school rented but just empty. And then you remembered "what was that noise?". All of a sudden, a spotlight was lit. And in the middle of it, was a young lad in his prince like attire. Looking rather stunning and he sure stole your heart away. Your unconscious mind, being lured by the beauty of the young man, made you take steps towards him.

"You don't dance often, do you?" he asks.
"I dance everyday," she responds icily.
"Then you are simply not trying?"
She looks up at him with eyes brimmed with tears but pupils filled with rage. In her eyes is a raging storm of hatred and hurt for the life she didn't choose but was forced into. Her look is enough. She doesn't say a word in response.
"I don't want this either," he tells her, his own feeling seeping in. Anna flashes in front of his eyes, a mere second of respite, before he is looking down at the princess in front of him once more. She is not looking back at him but rather, somewhere over his shoulder, out the window, and into the dark night.
"I am a bird," she tells him, so quietly that he almost doesn't hear it. The next dance steps they take together are more in sync than they have been all night. She lifts her a chin a bit higher and she no longer clumsily follows his moves. She seems to begin to take the lead of the dance.
"I am a bird in a cage and you," she pauses and looks at him with those angry eyes. The world whirls around them as they spin from one part of the ballroom to the other, the tap of their shoes on the golden marble floor beneath them, together striking their own song of hurt and helplessness with a flickering flame of will to fight for the life they so desperately want.
"You," she continues, "Hold the keys to my freedom."
He spins her twice, one arm behind his back. They face each other again. They waltz, finally finding their rhythm together. He begins to realize that she wasn't lying when she says that she dances everyday.
"You say that your freedom is within my hands yet I would argue that mine is in yours," he responds, not unkindly. "Anna, my Anna. She waits for me everyday but I am here, dancing with you, because your mother believes I am worthy and your father wishes to play a political game. With all due respect, princess," he dips her, softly lifts her back up, they twirl, "If you did not exist, I would not be here now."
The dance is nearing its end.
"You think a woman has a say in what she wants in this kind of life?" she asks as a tear drops from her eye. "You go to your Anna when we have married. You have full ability to. But I will have the eyes of this kingdom upon me, scrutinizing every move that I make. I won't be a woman anymore. I won't be me. I won't be Inez. I will be the Queen with this marriage hanging solely on my own two shoulders because I am not human, I am the love we will have to pretend to be. I am the one with every answer to our kingdoms ails. I am the King and Queen's daughter, I am the one who will bring my people to ruin or to riches. You are losing your Anna, at least the ability to be in her arms and her arms only."
He lifts her up and spins her around once. Twice. Three times. Four times. He slowly lets her down and she brushes against his chest as she is lowered back onto the floor.
"But I am losing my freedom," she whispers. They are mere inches from each other, so he is able to hear her words. Words filled with fear, resignation, and a morbid realization to the reality of her future.

the night was elegant. The royal ball held for your dad aka the king's birthday was going in full swing. the music, the dinner, the guests, your parents and everything else looked extraordinary. and now it was time for that moment of this night which everyone had been waiting eagerly for, The Dance. you slowly stepped out of the place and decided to take a walk in the garden of your castle. royal parties, balls and all weren't exactly your thing. you'd rather read all night in your chambers than be here. you caught your brother's concerned eyes as if they were asking 'are you okay?' as you were stepping out. you smiled and just nodded.
the garden was peaceful, although you could still hear the music from inside the ball room, you didn't mind. the fireflies flying and occasionally bumping into each other seemed like they were dancing among themselves. even though you didn't like such events, you still wondered what would it be like if you had someone to dance with. just the two of you, dancing in the middle of the crowded ball room, without a care of the rest of the world.
you slowly started moving, imagining yourself dancing with your dream man. your dress moving in sync with your body, your hair swaying with you, your hands moving in perfection. you spun and laughed. Oh how silly you seemed right now, you thought. A good kind of silly, the kind of silly any girl wanted to be with her dream person, the kind of silly where you're just carefree. you felt happy, you felt fearless, you felt free.
"well what do we have here?" you heard an all too familiar voice ask. You stopped dancing and saw him. He stood there, with an adoring smile on his face, with his blonde hair perfectly but messily styled, his ember eyes glistening from the moonlight, his black tuxedo fitting him perfectly. You couldn't help but blush at the fact that he probably saw you dance all by yourself.
"what are you doing out here?" you asked, in your quiet voice, "shouldn't you be in there, enjoying and dancing?"
"I can ask you the same thing." he said, his voice captivating your mind and heart in a way you couldn't quite comprehend, "well minus the dancing part. You're a great dancer."
"You saw all of it?" you asked, slightly embarrassed. he chuckled and nodded. Your cheeks turned even more red as he took few steps closer to you. "you still didn't answer my question. why are you out here?"
"well, I saw you come out here all by yourself. had to make sure you weren't getting kidnapped or something."
"I can take care of my self, y'know." you said, trying not to get offended. He laughed and came even closer.
"And I wanted to ask you something." he hesitated, was he nervous? You were quite surprised. He was nervous? The crown prince of (your rival kingdom) was nervous?
"What is it?" you asked. He extended his hand and bowed, "The crown Princess of (your kingdom name), would you do me the honour of dancing with me?"
You were surprised. Out of all people, you were the one he was asking to dance with. Your heart warmed as you accepted his hand. "Yes" was all you said.
He smiled a big smile and took you by the waist, swaying you, your bodies syncing perfectly. You felt your dream coming true, the two of you dancing, without a care of the rest of the world. The garden became the ball room for you, he didn't seem to mind it. You were smiling and happy, so was he.
The music slowly came to end, but the two of you still kept on dancing, the fireflies now dancing with you. When you stopped, you could see the desperation in his for not wanting to leave. He took your hand and gave your knuckles a long kiss. "Until next time, love." He winked and walked away into the darkness. a totally different feeling started to develop inside the two of you which you both couldn't comprehend as to what it was. but what you knew was that it was the best feeling you've ever felt.

A grand ball was held at yada yada who knows where. The ballroom soon filled with people and royals from everywhere. Right before they were about to announce the start of the song, everyone seems to already have a partner looped by their arms. You stood there, looking at them smiling joyously, slowly moving to the center of the ballroom for the dance. Knowing you have no one to dance with, you stepped out the room with heavy feet. Just as you were about to walk out towards the large gate, a sound that came from the garden on your left side caught your attention. Someone is humming a song within the royal palace's woods.
The soft melody got you hooked and sure enough, you went towards the humming sound. Trudging in deeper and deeper into the forest. The bushes become thicker and harder to push through. Yet the hum was stronger than ever. Its getting closer. You squeezed yourself between the giant leaves and push away the bushes with your hands.
The sight laid out infront was absolutely magnificient. Its not 'someone' whom you heard singing along the melody but it was the fairies. Tiny bright lights flying and floating around softly in the air, following the rythm. Other than the fairies, another ballroom stood infront of you with all its majesty. You wasted no time in pushing the doors and make yourself comfortable.
The inside of the ballroom was big. Not as big as the main ballroom where the event ball was held but still bigger than 5 houses combined.
The ballroom roof was shaped like a dome and all of them were made of glasses instead of rock or cement. The sky show itself upon your eyes as she looked up. The dancing fairies made it seem as if the stars are dancing in the sky.
Getting carried away, you felt the need to dance. Partner or no partner, it feels like you couldnt care less about it. So you did. You moved your body along the melody. Spinning swiftfully and gracefully. Closing your eyes and smiling to yourself, totally immerged in the dance. You felt content..and happy.
Words arent enough to explain how magical you felt as of the moment.
You swept thru the ballroom, spinning around, not caring about what was happening outside. In here, its just you and the dancing fairies. As you were dancing with closed eyes, someone grab a hold of one of your hand that was in mid air, you felt yourself being pulled closer to them by the waist and keep spinning along. You opened your eyes only to met the pair of familiar eyes. There he stood with all his glory.
His hair tamed and styled, exposing half of his forehead. No one said anything as both of you just keep on dancing. His face copied the same exact smile that had been etched on your face.
The night grows silent as the ball slowly came to an end. But there you were, dancing with him nonstop. Laughter filled the empty ballroom. Ever since then, it later became a bedtime story parents would tell their kids. Some said they could still hear the sound of music and footsteps coming from the abandoned ballroom.

During the midnight, you came through that mirror, unknown of your surroundings but not fearful as you were happy to have escaped your crazy father who wanted you to marry the son of the enemy kingdom to help relieve wars between the to kingdoms.

You also assumed that the person didn’t know that ur a princess at all cause of the way the person talks to you casually. But one thing was for u sure. Ur letter friend is funny and cares for u a lot. Every day you struggled with the duty of a perfect princess so you had a person to rely on. You always questioned urself how the person would look like. You didn't even know if the person was a he or a she. But you really wanted to meet the person. One day you went up to ur balcony again and you wrote in the letter if you could meet up with the person someday. The next day the bird flew to ur balcony again and the person replied: ,, I think we will meet each other soon enough, My Lady.'' You were left confused. But you didn't have the time to think about it much because a ball was coming soon. A royal banquet. Like every year. So the palace was very busy. And you were also busy by organizing stuffs like choosing extravagant decorations etc. and also picking out a dress. The maids made a big fuss on the day of the banquet. They dressed you beautifully after picking out a gorgeous dress for you. Your hair shined brighter than the moon. The hair accessories matched with ur dress pretty well. Its your favorite color after all. You swirled a few times in front of the mirror. Your hair fluttered in the air and the dress swirled as elegantly as the owner who wore the dress right in that moment. Your maids were in awe and you couldn't look away anymore. You're just too pretty. ,,Good work you all! I really appreciate ur hard work.'' the maids replied with: ,, No problem at all your highness!'' But one thing bothered you. You didn't received a reply from ur dear distant letter friend. You looked sad in the mirror again after spacing out. You shaked ur head aggressively and told to urself that its not important rn. It was magnificent and so extravagant as well. You slowly walked down the stairs with a straight and elegant posture. Your aura was brighter than all the lights in the ball room combined. You saw the royal family over there and went to them and bowed down to them. Your finger tips lifted a bit of the fabric of ur ballgown and you bowed down elegantly. Perfect etiquette. Your parents also bowed their heads a bit to you and they smiled proudly at you. ,,Mother, Father please excuse me for a bit. I shall go and greet some guests in your stead.'' They smiled and nodded ,, You are excused''. Soon after that it was time for the royal dance. Despite from all the invitations you got from young and male aristocrats there were none suitable for you. So you didn't have a partner because you declined them all. But it was a must that the royal family should dance at least the first round in order to ,,beginn'' the banquet. Your parents were already on the wide and open dance floor. Many men would feel honored to dance the first dance with you. But it was considered rude if many man directly asked the hand of a lady at the same time so nobody approached you at first. They hesitated. Except for one. A young handsome and attractive man came up to you. He bowed down to you and kissed ur hand ,,May the royal highness grant me, Crown Prince (xxx) from the western empire, the first dance?''. He smirked a bit after asking that. You blushed lightly. You replied ,,You may be my first dance partner then..'' He smiled genuinely. He took ur hand and you two stepped towards the dance floor. You both bowed down to each other and started to dance. You both hold hands while you placed ur other hand on his bright shoulders. Suddenly he placed his other hand on ur waist and you blushed a little. He took the lead and you followed along. You said: ,,You're better than I thought. You dance very well'' He replied:,, I'm honored your highness. You’re also a good dancer'' Without noticing you blushed again. But you realized that you didn't see him before. But you knew that he was an important person. He's the Crown prince from the Western Empire after all. You two practically flew around the dance floor. Your moves and steps were as lightly as a feather. And it seemed like u two were floating on clouds. Everyone gazes were fixed on both of you. You spaced out in his jewel like eyes. They sparkled brighter than the sun itself. He's tall, has a good and muscular figure and he's altogether very handsome. He has the charm but also a significant aura that sparkled around him. But suddenly you spaced out in his eyes longer than expected and realized that you're both still dancing and that there were other people around too. Out of sudden realization you panicked and stepped on his foot and tripped. He caught you and your faces were now closer than before. His beautiful shiny hair tingled on your face. Your eyes met again. He looks shocked at first too. But then his gaze softened and he smiled at you. You blushed harder than before ,,How embarrassing!..'', you thought. It never happened to you before. Your etiquette and dance was always obviously flawless. But why did it happen? All your thoughts went through your head in a second. He grabbed ur waste and lifted u up in the air and twirled. Your hair and dress twirled in the air too. You looked like an angle. You were surprised at how smooth he handled the situation. It looked flawless like the accident never happened. Everything happened probably under one second. But that one second felt like 1 minute to you. You enjoyed being lifted up. You felt free like a bird. Then you landed on the ground again and you both slowly came to an end. You bowed down at each other again and everyone applauded. It was amazing. That feeling.. was something you never experienced before. He smiled at you and you smiled back. He bowed down to kiss your hand and at the same time he glanced up to you smirking ,,I will never forget how you stepped on my foot, My Lady.'' You flushed. But then you realized something.. did he say.. My Lady?.. ,,no way'' you whispered. ,,A-are you-''. He said: ,, Yes Mylady. Its me your letter friend.'' You couldn't believe it. How did he recognize you? But that wasn't important for you at the moment. You looked surprised and shocked but also smiled at the same time. The person who was always at ur side and helping you out was standing right in front of you now. You hugged him and he looked surprised for sure. The crowd was shocked as well. But it didn't matter to you. He hugged you back and after that you dragged him out to the palace garden. He stood there surprised but he was also happy to see you. You're both alone now. So you both took a walk and your arm hooked up at his arm. You were a bit flustered but you two became comfortable around each other very fast. The light wind, the dark evening sky with the bright moon and all the sparkly stars… the atmosphere was romantic. You two began to told about ur stories to each other. And you also found out that he would stay for a while here because of some trading business. Good for you. As time went by your developing feelings grew more and more. You took walks with each other and just spent much Time with each other. You were happy to be together and that's what all mattered to you...(to be continued?)

I lower my head because I can’t handle how I have to see my grandmother through paint. Right then and there someone opens the ballroom door. My head still facing the ground I wipe my tears.
