Delhi is the mediaeval imperial Capital of the Indian Subcontinent! Without Delhi, much of the Northern Indian Subcontinent wouldn't have got much of its present culture.
Lara Pinto, Lara Pinto, the two predominant languages of the Indian Subcontinent, Hindi and Urdu, were both born in Delhi. That's just one example of how Delhi has shaped the culture of the northern Indian Subcontinent. And I've specifically written "medieval", which refers to the era post the ancient cities and kingdoms of Magadh, Gaya, Varanasi, etc.
