My dad had a lot of Realistic hi-fi separates including this tape deck, I've still got the power amp receiver STA 2300. The deck after many years service became uneconomic to repair (probably late 90s). It would move the tape okay but no sound would be transmitted unless you left it going for 30 mins. Having had the value out of it he move on to a Technics deck, which still works today. Good luck getting it going.
I have 2 of these decks. I also have 3 SCT-3000 decks. One of these decks (SCT-3000) only had ONE capstan. The second capstan was taken out and the pinch roll was also taken out. I rebuild the power supply in all of these decks. I'm not a big fan of digital world. Great video and I'm too a Realistic/Radio Shack fan.

Would you happen to have a service manual you could share with me, or point me to where I can find one? I have searched around and am coming up empty but I have seen pictures of them so I know they exsist. Any help is appreciated.

Excellent deck, made by Hitachi. Your deck was at a Radio Shack repair center at some point based on the repair sticker on the back panel.

NOTICE THIS DECK WHEN IS POWER ON CAPSTAN ITS RUNNING. WHEN YOU NOT USE TURN OFF THAT SAVES MOTOR FOR GOING BAD .

That looks so much like a Hitachi D90S deck but is better it has the test switches to calibrate!
It was indeed made by Hitachi for Radio Shack.
