Southern Illinois here! This weather is no joke!!! I hunted last afternoon (calm before the storm) and that had to be the most wildlife (birds/squirrels) I have seen move since early season…..Only saw 2 small bucks, but I am hoping to make it out there once we see the weather break Monday morning.
Thank you, Jeff, happy new year! I’m excited for 2025, now I have my own 41 acres with a lot of diversity. Two fields are being farmed, but I’m considering once the contract is up, I’ll put plots in.
Had a really small fawn in June this year that was born recently. Definitely from the third rut. Really feel bad for for them. The odds are extremely against them.
I really hope I never have to hunt January again. This year was my longest season in 5 years at Dec 11. 2018 I was tagged out in Archery season. Educating myself through these videos and learning my properties, watching cams, etc has made me such a better hunter.
I'm from northern Indiana. I've watched bucks chasing doe fawns around for the past two weeks or more. One of those does was definitely in heat, she was making that very obvious! At one point there were 7 bucks chasing her around
We had really deep snow during our Pa gun season, and now again during our late archery season. I'd love to see a video from you on how to hunt in deep snow. Thanks.
I love watching these videos. Ive still been getting new bucks showing up on my property. I did this time last yr to so i guess we must be doing something right. Only 2nd yr owning it
Last season and now have been hunting January because I think I have a new deer hunting nieghbor that has bad habits and has screwed up the patterns so after this season I'm hitting the off season with focus to get my piece back to the honey hole it was
Our third rut mixed with a snow storm last year. You said get in the woods and my camera told the story. Target buck chasing like a fool 😂 (me crying at home)
To your doe reduction point...Do you assess your property exclusively in determining target doe reduction numbers or do you take a more "macro" neighborhood approach where while you may not take many doe, you know your neighbors are taking a lot of doe...the other thought is when you look at a winter herd of doe (usually mom with two fawns)...do you account for dispersal of a lot of those fawns; which if the macro neighborhood is hammering them where an equal amount of fawns dispersing into your property fall short of those that will be leaving your property later in winter/spring.... just a thought...
Michigan has an extended antlerless season for a few more days, but I'm sad that my season might be over. The weather has been crazy since mid December. The deer that have had predictable movement since spring are gone. Haven't seen anything on camera since December 23rd. I have good cover but what is left of my food plot is under snow.
Yes...we would love to see you Kurt!! The Saturday before Father's day 😊 Make sure to contact Jessi at jpilger.whs@gmail.com and she can make sure you get a spot. Would be really cool to meet you! Everything begins at 10am, and runs until about 4.
3rd rut for sure, have pick of rut activity Nov Dec and Jan, starts around the same time . Facts over feelings, it is there!

Stay safe for those affected by this weather! Midwest is getting slammed

Had bucks rubbing trees in the snow late season, first time I've seen that in Pennsylvania
🤷
