The adjustable screen voltage is a strike of genious.. Going lower in screen voltage will shift the plate dissipation a little (it will get cooler) so you just readjust the bias point after you lowered or increased the screen voltage.. Those Marshall 50 watt heads with 465 volts on the plate and just slightly lower screen voltage coming from a choke filter always sound rather hard,, great for a hard loud rock sound but cleans are almost always described as being less stellar..I think the key is the high screen voltage.. I tend to hear that also in EL84 that tend to run with high screen voltages (above 300V), With the adjustable screen voltage you can have a setup that is a little more like the output stage of a music man HD130 amp which its 700V plate and 325V screen. A lower screen voltage setup without the compression and sag you would get with a high value resistor to lower screen voltage..
That jam has Purple haze speaking to me subconsciously . I could feel the jimi vibes poking through. Love that amp. I want one bad. Anybody wanna trade one for a blues deluxe? Haha!!
Just a question, but at 1:10, do people actually enjoy that sound (clean sound achieved by rolling back the volume knob on a dirty amp)? To me, it sounds flat, dry and uninspired. Does a guitar run full blast through a clean channel sound much more alive?
Bram Claes It’s a different sound than a clean amp, but it’s also a desirable sound. Listen to Allman Brothers and Duane Allman used it all the time, so did Rory Gallagher. I run my amps on the lead channel only sometimes and turn down the guitar volume so I can roll it up to distort the power tube before the preamp tubes. I’ll also run on the clean channel with my distortion pedal on and the guitar rolled back to get a similar sound and similar control. It’s part of getting the most sound from the guitar and rig.
the way that strat cleaned up by dialing back the volume was simply beautiful. that was pretty much the epitome of tone. another solid video

Nice gear, great playing, and a fine video. Impressive.
Brilliant video! Awesome playing!
That's some tasty playing there. Nice sounding amp, too.

I wonder how loud that thing is on 10 while sitting right next to it...dbs?
Is this amp el84 or 6v6 based
Could that be the 2013 50th '63 anniversary es 335?… That neck profile looks familiar :)
Afraid not, Steve. It's a standard Gibson USA model made in Nashville in 2003.
Cheers,
Chris.

Damn, Chris. Sounds great, as always. I hate you badly.:)
Do you have any record? A band? Thanks!
Thanks for the kind words, Carles! Current band project here: th-cam.com/users/thelashofficial
