    Just got my IP22 yesterday and installed but it gets really hot 134F and 55C. in the 30 amp charge mode. The problem is that they installed a tiny fan located on the inside center which blows air on to a transformer and that is it. The air does not get blown out or sucked out of the unit. There is a spot on the rear of the unit for a second fan and wonder why there is not a fan installed there. There is a cover where the fan should be on the rear. I was reading the Victron community forum where multiple people are complaining about the over heating problem....too hot to touch.... but no one from Victron answers their questions directly as to why. I am disappointed after spending $247.00 with tax.

    • @banega2311
      @banega2311 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@DarranFuller I will answer you because the answer is very simple. If you use 3 batteries that need the same charging algorithm, this is a good solution. For example, 3 LiOn batteries in a camper of 100Ah each or their capacities are different, it is irrelevant.
      This is a parallel connection of three batteries. There, the current is divided into each, as much as it needs to produce the specified voltage. The battery that has a higher internal resistance and has not reached full charge, it will take more current and will be at a lower voltage, while those that have finished will wait at the perfect voltage with minimal current consumption.
      And that is that.

      I had not researched carefully enough and expected it was capable of separate chargers profiles per battery. It is not. It is going to suit my replacement need to manage two AGM in parallel at 12V but disappointed to realise only one chargers profile at any one time.

  • @UKBlue407
    @UKBlue407 6 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    Is each one of the three outputs managed separately? Are these three outputs just to make wiring easier, or is there an advantage. Is there a wiring diagram showing how this would be wired with three batteries? showing loads as well?

    • @batteryworksaustraliaptylt9840
      @batteryworksaustraliaptylt9840  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is designed so you can charge 1, 2 or 3 batteries from one charger. Its has a maximum of 30A output which can be shared amongst 1, 2 or 3 outputs. Watch the video to know how to wire it up for 1, 2 or 3 batteries.
      Not sure what you mean by managed. Check out an Argodiode or Argofet on the Victron website. This should give you an idea how it manages the outputs. Always refer to the manual and datasheets available at www.victronenergy.com.

  • @novelistusonthewater
    @novelistusonthewater ปีที่แล้ว +3

    looks like this is a nice charger but with a lot of shortcomings. We can only select one charge profile and the charge current will go according to the internal resistance of the connected batteries thus mixing lead acid and Lipo's will not work well. Using a lead acid program for LiPo will overcharge them and using a LiPo program for Lead Acid will undercharge them.
    If you need to charge different battery technologies frequently and want to keep your batteries healthy there is only one way to do so. A DC-DC battery charger. Putting three different battery technologies on this charger is "STUPID". Here, I said so.
    I assume (means I don't know) that the three outputs are galvanically separated so you can charge multiple batteries of same technology without draining the already charged battery.
    I assume they use a diode bridge to separate those three outputs and so same technology batteries with different SOC should be OK.

    I am in the design phase to transform a Sprinter 211 cdi, new (2021), L1H1, all a little tight !!!!, but perfect for use here in Europe and exploring small towns, easy to park ... etc
    But now I got to the point of doing the electrical project, which I'm not used to doing, I'm a civil engineer, I understand 110 / 220v AC circuits.
    I wish you could help me with that part.
    I'm Brazilian, but I also live a lot here in Portugal, where I'm going to do the conversion.
    Well, I started making a spreadsheet, with the equipment, the necessary power and time of daily use, I have no intention of filling the motorhome with things, not least because it is a Sprinter L1H1, and I would like to have a simple electrical installation, but I would not like have gas inside, so I would prefer a stove with only one induction zone.
    To heat the water it would be a D6 truma, which is diesel.
    But from the calculations I made and compared with others I saw on the net, it seems that it ends up consuming a lot of energy, making the electrical part more expensive.
    I don't want to spend so much just because of induction.
    I don't know what other electrical equipment I would still need for everything to work, still using the car's alternator and an external 220v point when stopped at a camping site.
    In your opinion, which a good configuration sufficient to have a quick meal, with induction and stay out of the network for a day or two?
    Well, the result of the spreadsheet was:
    220V equipment
    notebook - 65w - 1 hour of use - 5.4 Ah
    induction cooker - 1800w - 0,4 hour of use - 60 Ah
    12V equipment
    USB - 50w - 1 hour of use - 4.2 Ah
    refrigerator - 45w - 8 hours of use - 30 Ah
    lights - 15w - 3 hours of use - 1.3 Ah
    water pump - 42 w - 0.5 hours of use - 1.8 Ah
    exhaust fan wc - 40 w - 1 hour of use - 3.3 Ah
    I will be very grateful if you can help me by presenting an wiring electrical diagram with the necessary equipment.
    I appreciate if you answer.

      Yes you can, but you have to use the lowest common denominator, witch is LiFePo4.
      LiFePo4 has, on Victron charges 14.2V as absorption voltage.
      The starter battery will be a little undercharged, but better than float/trickle charging or no charging at all.
      The amps will go to the battery with the lowest voltage first, but they will hit absorption at the same time.

    I purchased the IP22 and it ran really hot on 30 amps and not able to even hold unit. I contacted Victron and they said it was normal to get hot! What a Joke! Here is the review I left on Amazon: I was surprised when I touched the case and it was too hot to pick up while running at the rated 30 amps. It was actually 134F or 55C and no electronic item should be this hot ever and poses a risk for fire. Upon inspection there is a tiny mini fan (40mmx10mm) inside near the center and it blows air on to a transformer next to it and that is it. The fan basically does nothing. I could feel no air flow exiting or blowing around the unit. There is a cover on the back end and when I removed it for inspection I noticed a place where a fan was designed to be installed but none existed. How could a manufacture with a high end name like Victron let this happen. I think they wanted to make the IP22 as quiet as possible, hence the mini fan located inside mid center but they forfeited cooling when they took the rear fan option away and slapped a cover over it. I had to submit a technical support request form and I am waiting for Victron to get back to me. I will update this when they do. I also went to the Victron community forum where multiple people were complaining for quite sometime about the heating issue and it appeared to me that Victron never acknowledged the problem. We shall see. Update: Here is Victron's response: "Depending on models, there is a fan on the side of the unit while others are left blank. Victron has said that these units will heat up when in operation, and there should be no cause for concern. The units do have overheat protection on them." End Quote. Anyone who works with electronics knows that the enemy of electronics is heat and for the IP22 to get so hot as not able to hold unit in your hands is unacceptable. I will never buy Victron again. Meanwhile I have added to more fans to the unit. I added one fan in the space provided on the back end side, just removed cover that covered up where the fan should of been. I also made a hole in the cover and added a fan so the fan on the cover would blow air in and the fan on the back end would blow the air out. I wired in parallel with the internal mid centered fan. Now runs about 15 degrees cooler. Shame on Victron!

      even more i really NEED to know this because i need to charge different ah battery's VERY soon.
      then again what is the point in getting the 3 terminals one over the one if you could just use bigger wire and split it from the one terminal (assuming the three terminal one isnt separate charging)
      so i would like to know too, are the three terminals just paralleled inside of the charger or are they seperate with separete sensing how full the connected battery is?

      It has info like, to start the MPPT, it needs 5 volts more than what you have it set for battery. So, if you have it set for as a 12v battery, then the panel must make at least 17v before it starts to charge. After it starts, it only needs 1 v more. Does you panel make enough voltage in the sun?
