You guys are literally the happiest car enthusiasts ever. Keep up the great vibes! You definitely motivate people (me included) to go out there and turn some wrenches. #ImAFan
That's real nice of you to say! It's easy to be lighthearted about the work when it's a just for fun project. No stress of it being a daily driver and so no timelines. Thanks for your encouragement!
Rob thanx 4 listening to us on that crank pulley! For real I had major problems with lightweight underdrive pulley eating crank main bearings. Been building Hondas for over 20 yrs. I know lil something. Anyhow right on and you won’t be sorry using oem.
@Not One Thank you for your comment, very useful. I was just asking myself these days If is bad to put a lightweight pulley instead the havier oem. If the role of it is to balance, I will not change it. Regards!
Thank you very much for your nice words. Bummer the motor was bad but I learned a lot and still am learning all the time with this car. Happy to hear you got some motivation!
Great work guys! Can't wait till you guys get to the wiring...i suck at electrical, always had problems when it came to it...cant wait to see how you guys set it up...keep it up guys.
Great progress on the engine and paint! at 3:28 i had a flashback of not putting that concave washer back on, the consequences of not having that on will want to make the timing belt walk off but I see you got it back on proper! 7:26 good stuff dudes keep up the work
Haha thanks Sean! Yeah I’m really happy with how the bay came out, can’t wait to get this engine in the car. But yeah, I figured I shouldn’t have any “extra” pieces after I put the timing belt back on lol. So you had a timing belt jumping around on you before then?
haha awesome you got me beat there! I fired it up and the belt was 50/50 on the cam gear I'm like oh dang what did i miss, a little searching of the old ht forums and i figured it out same day turns out there's two of those washers on the d15b7 they both concave a certain direction inward/ outward I made the mistake of only putting one back on, I'm pretty sure your z6 just has the one though! Take your time man your doing it clean & proper that's what counts!
Take both pillows and drop them on the cement floor from 2” up and just listen to the long loud ping of the aluminum one. That noise/vibration is what kills the bearings
you can get to the water pump while the engine is in the bay but it does take some wiggling around to get the water pop into position! Much easier when the engine is out but I wouldn’t take the engine out just to do that job, try to get to it with the engine in the bay first
Good luck with her at the next track day. Gonna be a major difference. That 30hp difference gonna feel like 50hp with those issues the b7 has. I Hope to see you guys in ny or nj some day. My race partner and myself each have our own fully built and sleeved b20vtec, his is boosted mine is naturally aspirated.
Oh dang dude! Sounds like you guys have some cool builds going on. Glad to hear you are into the racing. It's what we love as well. But I agree, my old engine had timing issues and so this engine, if it all just works, should feel much better!
Refine Movement in the voice of the men's warehouse commercial guy "you're gonna like the way it drives, I guarantee it" lol I'll have some vids up soon as we get our channel planned out. Really hope to see you guys one day. I'm usually at Englishtown raceway park.
How come no talks about or makes video's about the D16Z9? Isn't it a slightly better engine or is there something about the D16z6 that is slightly better? Thanks!
personally i dig the lightweight pulleys and flywheel for faster throttle response during a rev matched downshift. i cant recall didn't you have a lightweight flywheel?
Mark, yeah I was given one by my friend Arthell at the last track day, but it was an older used piece he didn’t need anymore. I actually got a new Action Clutch lightweight flywheel with the new clutch and pressure plate I just got. I’m looking forward to faster revs like you said. As far as the pulley I’ve just heard a lot more cons than pros to using one.
Refine Movement sweet on the new flywheel, yea the debate is definitely strong on the net with regards to pulleys. I loved the act streetlight I threw in my car.
I bought a used z6. I used the screw driver in #1 hole until it hits the highest point on compression stroke. The " up" on cam gear is facing down and marks on cam gear dont line up, but c.s pulley mark lines up. Did someone put the cam gear on upside down? Can i just leave it?
The cam gear can only go on one way because it’s notched out to only fit the one way. Same with the crank pulley. So maybe the timing is off and the belt was just put on anyway. Need to line it all up first
D15's don't have harmonic balancers from the factory so I don't really understand the hype. They do have a better rod/stroke ratio though so that might help with vibrations vs D16. Another thing - purple power and simple green can both chalk aluminium(intake manifold, valve cover, transmission, block..) if they aren't washed off fully which can be difficult when keeping a clean bay.
For real man. Day jobs always getting in the way of the cool stuff we want to do! I’m looking forward to hearing and hopefully seeing pics at least of how your swap goes for you Alex
Yeah I didn’t do that in this video, just got it all back together here. I actually went back in, taking the timing belt off again so that I could replace the front main seal. I tightened it all down then. th-cam.com/video/Y4SvRcBLqbY/w-d-xo.html In the video linked above you can see where I did what you are describing. It’s not very in depth in the video though. Pretty much just kept the tensioner pulley bolted on loose so it could move then positioned it correctly so that the timing belt would have the right amount of tension on it so everything spun correctly.
What water pump and timing belt kit is this? Im trying to buy a kit for my d15b7 thats in my 95 civic dx. Its completely stock. So dont need anything specail. But also not trying to buy a shitty kit. Can anyone recommend to me a good quality water pump and timing belt kit i should get or even if i should get them seperately not in a kit which brands should i get of each. Thanks in advance to anyone who may help me out with some suggestions. 💪🏼👊🏼 #refinemovement #keepgunnin
When I got the d16 it came with some other stuff, if you care to you can check out the video here where I show it all off th-cam.com/video/rL4O3rEfFOQ/w-d-xo.html But yeah, there is what looks to be like some cheap ebay header that came with it all. Looks better than using the stock piece though.
I called it a gasket initially in the video, it's actually a timing belt guide. Your's was in the correct spot. That guide keeps the belt away from the block of the engine. This engine that I have here in this video was bought second hand, so whoever had it before me installed that guide wrong. You can see on your crank pulley gear, the gear that your timing belt goes onto, that it has a "built in" guide, a bigger sprocket that keeps the belt in the right spot. Well that little timing belt guide that comes off needs to go on the other side. |--| So it sandwiches the timing belt in place. Hope that makes sense.
Didn't think to do that honestly Dave. it never really seems to be an issue as far as what I've researched. But I understand why it would be good to do, especially now that the engine is out of the car.
According to EricTheCarGuy (The Supreme Leader for Car DIYers), if that seal isn't leaking and it's the original honda oil seal (usually orange), leave it alone. In order to replace it, you need to remove, or at least loosen the oil pump under the oil pan, and it's not the same size as the crank seal--I think a little bigger. (I don't care how old this comment is. I found it didn't I?)
I did think about that but the sources I check to learn how to do something didn't use it, so I didn't either. But I appreciate your input man. The engine is obviously still out of the car so I'll look into it further, could always put it on. Thanks!
more then welcome. im just trying to save u the heart ake of water leaking and having to rip rip everything back off. keep the vids coming anyway, from your fans in Ireland
You probably got the right one but when i was swapping my d15b in i needed the 103 tooth belt but was given the 106 tooth belt from the d15b7. Skipping teeth= unrefined movement. Lol
You guys are literally the happiest car enthusiasts ever. Keep up the great vibes! You definitely motivate people (me included) to go out there and turn some wrenches. #ImAFan

Man they really took precautions into making sure your part was safe
For real lol I'm good with that though!
@@RefineMovement Will these pulleys work for a 1.5 liter?
Rob thanx 4 listening to us on that crank pulley! For real I had major problems with lightweight underdrive pulley eating crank main bearings. Been building Hondas for over 20 yrs. I know lil something. Anyhow right on and you won’t be sorry using oem.
Yeah, I'm happy to have the peace of mind anyway just knowing the oem was designed to be there. Thanks for the suggestions
@Not One Thank you for your comment, very useful. I was just asking myself these days If is bad to put a lightweight pulley instead the havier oem. If the role of it is to balance, I will not change it. Regards!
Is there only 1 guide washer for belt on these or two? Near crank area that makes sure belt stays on track
Going to do the timing belt monday morning before it gets stinking hot on my new d16, these vids are great!!!
nice Arthell!
Well done...its always better to replace most parts when the engine is out...can wait to see it in...keep it up guys!
Yeah, agreed. Thanks man, can't wait to get it in and fire it up!
Even if that motor fail, your work was great, inspire me to do things in my car
Thank you very much for your nice words. Bummer the motor was bad but I learned a lot and still am learning all the time with this car. Happy to hear you got some motivation!
Just got done with finals and now we got a video up✌✌
Sweet Arthell. Hope the finals went well for you man!
I really like what u guys are doing! Great job! Miss my 94 hatch also white like urs
Thanks a lot Jose! We are having fun. Working to get this car ready to get back out on track. They can be fun cars, you know, you had one
Great work guys! Can't wait till you guys get to the wiring...i suck at electrical, always had problems when it came to it...cant wait to see how you guys set it up...keep it up guys.
Thank you! Well we've never really tackled any wiring either so I'll be learning as well lol but we'll see how it goes!

Hello, for the assembly of the water pipe, do you have to disassemble the water pump or lift the engine?
you can get to the water pump while the engine is in the bay but it does take some wiggling around to get the water pop into position! Much easier when the engine is out but I wouldn’t take the engine out just to do that job, try to get to it with the engine in the bay first
Great video helped me out a lot with the timing marks
This was great. Now no matter what I go through to get in there I have a clear picture in my head head. Thanks.

Hello fellow honda owner's
At 2:09 how strong was that impact gun??? I dont wanna struggle to remove that bolt???
Some times its mental
Id torque the crank bolt man. They do come off often.
Thanks for the advice. The spec is 134ft lb so the gun would've taken care of that I beleive, but I can check it. Thanks
How come no talks about or makes video's about the D16Z9?

Thanks!
I see you from DR thanks for teachy
personally i dig the lightweight pulleys and flywheel for faster throttle response during a rev matched downshift. i cant recall didn't you have a lightweight flywheel?
yeah, 11lbs
yea i thought i remember someone sending him one thanks

You know if you click the wrench more then once you over torqued it right !
What socket size did u use to remove the crank pully.?????
99cents store there is the oxyclean degreaser really works I’ve used it when cleaning parts of my car or plastic .
Thanks for the suggestion man!
Getting there, making me want to rip out that B16a2 and start preping it. If only we didnt have to work :p
For real man. Day jobs always getting in the way of the cool stuff we want to do! I’m looking forward to hearing and hopefully seeing pics at least of how your swap goes for you Alex
Might have to go on intergram. Ive been uploading my pictures to Facebook, but thats not a good medium as I've locked it down quite hard lol
I’m sorry but what was the purpose of the valve cover coming off?
Can you tell me where did you buy the water pump and timing belt kit? Is it OEM?
I just got it through the loca auto parts store. Oem replacement
I'm missing the part where you are supposed to put the right tension on the timingbelt by spinning the crank and then tighten down the tensioner???
Yeah I didn’t do that in this video, just got it all back together here. I actually went back in, taking the timing belt off again so that I could replace the front main seal. I tightened it all down then.

Did you do the slack adjust on the belt?
Yeah, just gave the crank a good turn and everything tightened up
Are you gonna use after market headers?
When I got the d16 it came with some other stuff, if you care to you can check out the video here where I show it all off th-cam.com/video/rL4O3rEfFOQ/w-d-xo.html

When I took my crank pulley off, that gasket was behind the lower timing belt gear...why? 3:26
I called it a gasket initially in the video, it's actually a timing belt guide. Your's was in the correct spot. That guide keeps the belt away from the block of the engine. This engine that I have here in this video was bought second hand, so whoever had it before me installed that guide wrong.

Touch up the block with some paint
No front main seal replacement?
Didn't think to do that honestly Dave. it never really seems to be an issue as far as what I've researched. But I understand why it would be good to do, especially now that the engine is out of the car.
def do all seals why its out

Oh shit... Those lightwaight pullys are BAD!!! I hope your rod bearing are ok.
What size is the tensioner Bolt?
How many teeth of the timing belt?
you should of put on gasket sealer for you're water pump u migth get a water leak :( by the way love watch your vids :)
I did think about that but the sources I check to learn how to do something didn't use it, so I didn't either. But I appreciate your input man. The engine is obviously still out of the car so I'll look into it further, could always put it on. Thanks!

from your fans in Ireland
Mine had a leak didn't use a sealant just the gasket FML
How much you paid for the oem pulley
$60 off ebay. Could've got it in the junkyard for about half that price, but finding one near me would be a pretty hard task
Man they
Type of spark plug wires?
Those are MSD wires that are on there. I'll likely be replacing them with NGK since I don't know how old those MSD ones are
lol just did all this on the d16w1 in my honda hrv
It’s not a daily, get a stage1 cam, you can get away with stock valve train
that would be rad
My car started overheating after replacing these parts 🥲
Confirm the tooth count on the belt. D series have many different counts. 104 is the magic # on the z6.
Interesting. I'll have to see. I got it for a d16z6 anyway so I'll check. Thanks!
You probably got the right one but when i was swapping my d15b in i needed the 103 tooth belt but was given the 106 tooth belt from the d15b7. Skipping teeth= unrefined movement. Lol
LOL very unrefined Movement! Wow I’m sorry to hear of your troubles from before but now you have that knowledge. Thanks for letting me know.
Damn to much bags. 😂😂😂
lol It didnt seem to end!
