    Great story. I worked at Raytheon in Andover MA where they built the Hawk and Patriot. The Hawk was still in production then. I also remember when Victor Blenko stole a Mig-25 and landed in Japan. Interesting times. I didn't know they made and recon version of the Mig-25. That the Russians flew them themselves is certainly SOP for them.

      MiG-25 was made into quite different interesting variants, not only photographic recon but also bomber, SLAR, ELINT and SEAD as well, each with their own designation. The high altitude performance of the airframe made it a very good platform for these other roles besides interception.

    The Foxbat may have been limited outside of being an outstanding high speed bomber interceptor and reconnaissance platform, but in those rolls. It works very well.
    Now if only someone could make the MiG-25PD for DCS...

    • @showtime112
      @showtime112  วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      Oh yes, that would be awesome. Some people suggest that there should be another FC3 series of modules for DCS with models which can't be done in high-fidelity for some reason. It might cover Russian planes such as the Foxbat. I think it would improve the sim greatly.

      Mig25 is the epitome of ‘boom and zoom’ plus as already stated, it’s original mission, (adopted by the later Mig 31), was area intercept, focussing on aircraft equally incapable of manoeuvring such as XB-70 Valkyries. Fox bats have a lot of real estate to look after and the high speed is as much to get to where they are needed, with short notice from GCI, and later AWACS.

      @@Ramzi1944it’s a weird thing the Soviets had. If you noticed the Soviets utterly refused to sell advanced tech to most countries especially Arab states. Iraq could mig 25s after they were already fading out and even than they were given weaker monkey models with poor training as to not give away Soviet secrets. Same came with Egypt. They didn’t want to Egyptians to get compromised and reveal advanced Soviet tech. Then there’s the issue of Soviet tech just being inferior as the mig 21 kept getting clapped in dog fights and when the Russians accused of the Egyptians of being bad pilots and instead took to the skies themselves, they do got clapped by Israeli pilots

As a result, the flights of the Mig-25 were not entirely a surprise to the Israelis. Therefore, the Russians decided to use a trick. First of all, Sparrow missile was continuously improved. F version was much better than the E model used in Vietnam (where the success rate was even lower than 10%). Second thing, you didn't count well 😁 In all these engagements, Israelis fired eight missiles resulting in three Foxbats shot down. That's 37,5 %. Sparrow could be quite accurate against non-maneuvering targets, especially in look-up. In Vietnam, they were often fired at maneuvering, small fighters, outside of parameters and multiple shots were standard practice.
