May 28th thru Sept. 5th. Many people think you only have to pay the $25 entry fee but you must be a Member of CCA & pay $35 on top of the $25 each year. For 2022 a guy near me caught 1 but was Disqualified because he paid the entry fee but Academy Sports didn't tell him he needed to be a member. That's sweet, I've fished over 40yrs in the Freeport, Matagorda, San Luis Pass areas & never caught a tagged red. For 2022 you get a killa boat for biggest Gaftop & Black Drum between 24" to 28" Must read rules, cannot keep Tagged Reds. You gotta take a measurement then a pic with the measurement & cut the tag & release it

Do they only tag them by the top fins? I once caught a red that had what looked like part of a tag, but was attached at the belly of the fish.

This year, that’s how you claim the prize. All of them are cut and then released.
