Wales is my heart's home. Such a besutiful country.
You should have travelled further west to see Pembroke Castle, Henry VII (Henry VIII father) lived there. On the way to Pembroke you can stop off at Manorbier Castle and Carew Castle.
I just loved this video. I loved the adventurous intrepity of it. You and Blair have more intellectual curiosity than many Brits. I hadn't even heard of most of those castles but I loved that you did not just go round the stock famous Anglo-Norman ones. Maybe you have visited Chepstow Castle since you filmed this but that's one I would recommend. It's very intact so you get a real feel of it plus it's location is stunning,it seems to grow organically out of the sheer cliff face dropping down to the River Wye. And Chepstow is a nice little town. If you like spooky caves,here at Bristol,up on CLIFTON DOWNS overlooking The Suspension Bridge is a castle like building. It's called The Observatory. You pay the modest entry fee and you can go down a long windy tunnel and emerge at the cliff face. It's really exciting,well if your 9,but I went back and did it last summer + I thought it was exciting. There is a platform to stand on and safety railings of course but it feels great to be out on the cliff face. The other interesting thing here is at the top of the building. It's an original Camera Obscura. We loved this as kids. This mechanism was installed in the 1770s and it's never been removed. Only of course the white paper gets renewed and various parts. But its original in that it was one of the first in the country. The room is pitch dark but a small aperture above lets in a tiny chink of light that via a mirror reflects the outside world exactly as it is onto the round white reflector. As a kid the ideal was for one of you to stay outside and wave but It never worked as you never knew where they were and they never knew when you were seeing them! That's in Bristol at Clifton.
On the way back home if you are travelling on the A449 from Newport then at the A40 junction you are about a miles from another great castle, Raglan.
Raglan Castle is, in my considerable experience, THE BEST castle ever.

I was hoping that you would visit Chepstow Castle on your way home. I think you all would have enjoyed it so very much. Look it up, and maybe you can all visit in the future.

This reminds me so much of my childhood, running up hills to visit castles.
As a kid the first time i got out of the city of London and saw real country side was with a week long trip to Wales with the school i remember thinking the scenery looked so picturesque like a painting I'll never forget Wales.

Great one to end on. Caerphilly is a work of art.
Montgomery castle on the Welsh English border has some spectacular views. And it's free . Their is a car park close by . I would use it as the hill is steep
North wales has a lot of castles you can walk round like Conwy and Caernarfon
Nice to see you visiting some of the lesser known castles. Wales is just stunning and if you ever visit again you would be amazed at how different it is in summer.

Did you visit Chirk Castle near Wrexham. It's a part of Natural Trust. You'd like to be a member of the National Trust. You get entry and parking as part of the membership
Within about 20 miles of where I live in south east Wales, there are about ten castles that I can think of. Two are Roman remains, the rest are all Norman. Some are almost complete, some are little more than a small section of wall, most are somewhere in between.
Cardiff
Newport
Caerleon (Roman)
Chepstow
Caldicot
Cearwent (Roman)
Caerphilly
Raglan
Abergavenny
Castell Coch (Not a true castle, but on the site of a much older castle)

Been round south wales . ..come to north and mid wales for more .
You missed the best castle, slightly further north at Harlech. Right on the coast. When the summer weather is good there is a really good beach there as well
I feel you should look for a period event at a castle for an interesting day out. Many castles have them where they are things like jousting displays, archery to have a go at, squire training where the kids can have a go at learning to be a knight. I think you have visited Lincoln Castle but did you go to the Medieval Joust? There is one on in the second weekend of August for example. You could also visit Tattershall Castle which is close to Lincoln to see a good example of a brick built castle.
Should have gone to some castles in Gower near Swansea. You could have knocked out 4 on the 1st day including Swansea. Pannard is worth a visit just for the views and Oystermouth Castle is well looked after and has tours you can join. Weobley Castle is also in good condition.

Great to see some Welsh castles again, you sure packed them in. You have to ask yourself why so many and why some are only remnants, they are after all military in a nature but also simply a local resource for materials once their role is surpassed. Hope you get to see loads more.

Trust me, those are real castles. I visit much older sites, Neolithic tombs etc. Sometimes they are just raised ground. Americans want the theme park experience. I love the tiniest fragment of reality far more.

Can't say I know much of South Wales, but I did a gig near Cardiff last year. Both Cardiff and Caerphilly are very good examples (not piles of stones). Up north on the other hand, there are incredible castles of which I'd recommend Conway (which I know you've seen), Carnarfon. Beaumaris (on Anglesey) and Harlech. I see you've caught up with Caerphilly.... There are also many castles in the Marches (borderlands) of which Ludlow and Stokesay are prime examples. There is also an ancient defensive borderbuild by King Offa called Offa's Dyke which is quite a walk although it's tricky to find good continuous stretches. The other thing you might like are Iron age hill forts, which are man made earth work defences (on top of hills) which are about 2000 years old.

Or perhaps you could go back and hire a chainmail suit and broadsword, and carry out a simulated attack up the hill? ;-)
Its not a castle, but just inside Wales, north of Newport, is Caerleon, and there is a Roman ampithetre, legionnaire's barracks, baths (non working) and museum there, all accessible and way less hassle than Bath. On the way back you can pop into the fine Chepstow castle, or go on to Cardiff.

You missed a number of castles that were easy to access from Carmarthen.
Your videos could be trimmed down a lot. Less is more sometimes. The slightly too long lingering shots of a drab road or a car,dead bits of twig, scaffolding next to the castle wall, a bin can go,
