Wow! The kind of programming I like from Dylan! You managed to get the highlights in well! I still like the fishing analogy! It is not about whether you got the analogy right, it is about you trying one!! Congratulations on the super cool automatic dome!
Live at north west Arizona 35 degrees north 114 west and it rained one day last year ( 2020 ) humidity hardly ever goes over 40% and no pollution at all. Sky's are ultra transparent. The conjunction of Saturn and Jupiter were just amazing and super sharp even in my Explore Scientific AR 102 on a LX70 motorized mount. Many people saw it and had never looked thru a telescope and where just blown away. It was a very happy time for me and them. And the beer was so good.
Glad to see this set-up. I am looking forwards to getting my rig set up this summer, I have a new EQ-G mount for a Celestron 150MM Newtonian reflector. And I am trying out a guide scope for the first time. I will do all this on the top of a mountain at 1600M with zero light pollution so I am pretty excited. I do like that scope you have, I will have to wait for one like that though.
This is so cool...im sick most of the time...i have all new gear...just can't get it down the stairs...I'm building a small shed...then all i have to do is move the gear outside.. I'm in Florida...if you check, i live in the central part of the state way out in the country...the darkest part. Its great you put out the video's..thanks again.
Thanks Dylan from the other side of the globe. I was thinking of building a shed style sliding roof observatory but now I am wondering about a NexDome. Cheers!
Love it, thank you. SOOO looking forward to a follow up video. How is the dome working? How is the remote setup working? So many questions regarding your new setup. I am contemplating a similar setup.
Thanks for this video. I ordered a NextDome for my place here in Utah USA. I will put it on a concrete pad. Hope to be up and going mid-April. Your video was super helpful.
CORONA, very appropriate Dylan! ;) Also congrats on the new dome, even the automation gear is beautiful. Also Diego's work was of the reasons I decided to give my family's newton a try for astrophoto. Cool dude, great astrophotographer.
That is a fantastic video man ! I've been following you for a long time and this NexDome setting video is just one of my dream becoming true (for you lool). Hope the lock down won't last too long, but long enough for you to set up your new baby and for us to enjoy your coming videos :) Cheers mate !
Dylan I have the skypod and was wondering , can you use the next dome on top and motorrise it or you cant do that .. I like the slit , i always have problems with the zenith and would not like to buy a whole new observatory
It's possible in *theory* but having watched this install and the differences I think it's safer to go with one setup or the other for that. The zenith issue on the pod was the biggest issue for sure.
I have only left the house 3 times since xmas..i just got a telescope this week,, lucky transport is still running , cant wait to try it out.. love your channel , great to see an aussie making a go of it :)
I'm pretty interested in that Cloudwatcher thing; that whole set up is quuuuuiiiiite nice though. If only the sky from my backyard wasn't 80% trees! I've been brainstorming ideas for some kind of mobile observatory, but $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
There are some screws, and lifting the dome up onto the walls, that really do require a few pairs of hands, but otherwise it could mostly be done alone :)
I assembled my skyshed pod by myself several years ago. I didn't need the help for the Roll Off Roof I just built, but I certainly welcomed the extra hands from my wife and friend Tim.
2 people really helps. Myself a friend did it 4 hours one afternoon then finished it about 4 hours a 2nd afternoon. We had no instructions back at the time. I later added the rotator. That was about 40 minutes to install and the shutter came later about 20 minutes to install. None of it is hard. But I did have to drill one or two new holes. I thik due to no instructions, we tightened the nuts - best to leave them loose until all in then wiggle and make sure it's square (ROUND). Then snug them up.
Hi Dylan, just watched your video, haven't seen Part 1 yet....good job with the Dome, its given me some ideas. I'm trying to make my mind up whether to go with a Roll of Roof or Dome. I'd prefer a Dome because its traditional, I'd really love to get the 3 meter Scope Dome from Sidereal but its so much money!....anyway I see you did this back in March last year, is there a Part 3 hows have you settled in to the Dome and is there any images taken thus far?....Cheers Clint Jeffrey (ASV member)....okay, I just seen a video of you removing the observatory and some of your pictures....really great photos Dylan, I can't wait to start doing this myself....:)
Hey mate .. I try to do a video a week and I think I’ve done a couple more that are obs focussed but basically every episode features it if I’m shooting so I mention things about it a lot. Sorry I couldn’t be more specific !
In keeping with the spirit of your end of the world programming and since it takes place in Australia I will be watching the motion picture "On the Beach" just to cheer me up. Skies have not been cooperating here up over. (Is that how people down under refer to us in the states?) Til next time, cloudy skies.
Hello Dylan, I am currently looking into my options on the NexDome or a Sky Pod. May I ask you how do you feel about the construction and durability of the Nex Dome compared to the Sky pod? I do like the Dome that you can see your Zenith. What about the rain? Does the NexDome weather the rain as well or better or worst than the SkyPod? Thanks so much! Hope to hear back from you. Best regards
Wouv, I really understand why you're so excited. Love you're videos, great inspiration for someone on the other side of the planet (Denmark) , thanks! 😊
It uses IR to check the temperature at a point in space (up) and when that temperature increases it means there is a cloud in the way. Like a thermal camera :)
I just started using Voyager and am about to build a mini observatory shed on my balcony. I also just ordered the AAG cloudwatcher. I have a bunch of questions: How do you like the dragonfly and cloud solo? Do you have a link to that smoky gray enclosure for the dragonfly? Do you actually use the anemometer? Is that integrated into Voyager to close up if the wind is above a certain speed? Is there life in Andromeda?
You may end up in a situation where heat build up in your dome. Did it come with a ventilation system? You don't have an exposed primary mirror, so keeping the air inside as still as possible isn't necessary.
HI Dylan. I'm a huge fan of your videos. One question: I have a 10" Orion f/4 newtonian (~40" long). Do you think it would fit? I'd be using an EQ8-R like yours. I ask because you mentioned trimming your dew shield (was that so it would fit?). Any advice before I purchase the Nexdome? Also - was that clear-faced electronics cabinet included in the purchase? If not, where did you buy it? I hear the Nexdome is not exactly watertight - so that might be important. Thanks - Tommy
That rain sensor - does Lunatico have an iOS app that pairs with it? I'm looking to get the CloudWatcher - Hydreon rain sensor version paired with the Hydreon RG-9 Rain Sensor adapted for CW. The idea is to have it send an alert to my phone and wake me up if it senses rain.
Dylan, do you feel this is as stable as a SkyShed? The Nexdome looks a little flimsier in your vids. Wish I could see both in person...Maybe someday there will be another NEAF. Was hoping to purchase before then though :)
