As Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vows to continue the assault on Gaza, we speak with the first Israeli to refuse mandatory military service since Israel's offensive began over three months ago. Last month, 18-year-old Tal Mitnick announced he would refuse military service in what he called a "revenge war" on Gaza, and was sentenced to 30 days in a military prison. Just released from jail, Mitnick faces another draft summons and says he will refuse "over and over until someone gives up, until the army gives me an exemption." Mitnick says the October 7 Hamas attack on southern Israel broke the idea Israel could live with occupation. "We need to keep fighting for a just future," he says, urging the younger generation of Israelis to use their voices for peace. "We're the future, and we can change."

What you said only makes sense if he was pro israeli government. Eg.
If he said that "israel is so good at filtering civ's from hamas" then you argue that "if they are so good at not harming civillians why dont you live in gaza". So your point is so dumb that it only makes sense if his stance was the exact opposite of what it is now.

That's not wisdom...i am sad to say. That's just A BOY possibly with a good and inocent heart that doesn't have the facts nor suffered what many of us did to understand that after all those years in wich Israel's giving a blind eye to palestinians (out of goodness out of the wish not to destroy the attacker, giving them chances again and again to think and be in peace) terror, violence, shooting (along the fact that we are not occupiers...this land was God given 3 times to jewish people thousands of years ago, before it's last proclaiming as a state)...peace cannot be acheaved unless both parts want to cooperate and (Gaza is on it's own since 2005...we left it without any demands and Westbank is not mannaged by Israel but by Palestinians) if they wouldn't do acts of terror they could of come in and get jobs, be free in our streets but they don't...so they are checked when comming in just like anyone would on any border in the world and. Just imagine, their terrorist regim don't want israel to be in Gaza (neither of us want that) even though they would be better to be part of us for their future and level of life. I am sad that the simple people in there don't have jobs...Hamas doesn't provide jobs just war, the financial and material help given to Gaza doesn't get to the peopke or those in need but taken by Hamass and kept/getting rich or invested in tunnels or weapons. Hamass keeps them poor and in a hard life, in fear (they fear hamass more than they fear israel), their healthcare is almost inexistent and the hospitals meant to give health care there are used as terror and weapons bases, as hiding places for terrorists we know it for more than a decade. So you see, they come into israel to receave gealthcare and jobs...they have no hope with Hamass there. Israel is pittying them and gives them money and (even vaccines in co vid...but be shore hamass used that for themselfs) electricity and water...that's not out of control nor because we are in Gaza...Gaza is free since 2005 but because if we won't give it😊 to them, they won't have any at all. They took the water pipes and water system we left in when we left Gaza, and made out of it rokets to shoot in israel...that's better than having a water system isn't it? So tgey remained without water. Do you think i get water for free in israel? Atabs in israel are fettung educated, have rights, get treated as equals ask them if they want to leave...everyone will say No! So you see if Gaza (Hamass) wouldn't of create terror and shoot on us for 25 years we wouldn't have the need to defend ourselfs in this war. We always said in all our actions there "we are not going to take Hamass down...we wanted them to flourish but all hamass wants is to use them as human shields oppening fire again and again without any concern because they knew we won't hurt Gaza's population not in purpose...we would anounce the innocent to leave in so many ways so they won't get hurt...and hamass is shooting from civilians homes to be protected by inocent souls. So you see this is not about land, we gave them land and it didn't result in peace, this is not about occupation we have the right to be on this land it is writen in the bible...since Abraham's days (first God gave this land to abraham and his descendants wich are jews and arabs) then God gave this land again to Jacob "Abraham's son" and at last God gave this land to Moses when he got people out of Egypt...do not be fooled by propaganda and lies. If we'll put our defence down we'll be exterminated...if they will put their weapons down, then it will be peace. I don't them to live just like i don't want us to be misplaced it is our right to be here. It's not about revenge not in israeli side...it is naive to think so (like that boy thinks) now i don't want peace as sad as it is. I want palestinians freed from Hamass so they'll have a future and live well when this war ends...i don't want israel to remain in Gaza even though i think someone should be thete and help them flourish, make shore they will have a better life and get educated after this war ends and then left to be free and i don't want to be shot on anymore we are shot at from Gaza for years...i don't want israeli children to live and get used to alarms...that's how my son grew up. We deserve our peace and that won't happen untill tge terrorists in Gaza are eliminated. That will bring bright days to israel and to Gaza people too. You people should understand. Right now, Israel freeing Gaza from hamass is the best solution for palestinian people...for those that are not involved in terror

As usual, Amy Goodman simply pumps up well-intentioned Jewish commentators/activists whose basic zionist beliefs are left unchallenged in her superficial "reporting." Here, this kind, principled young man refers to the killing of "innocent civilians" on Oct. 7, 2023. Unless they are protesting Zionism in full solidarity with Palestinians, there are no innocent Israeli civilians under the age of 18. At that age Israeli males are required to serve 3 years and females 2 years in the vicious occupying military. All Israeli adults either actively serve or are reservists conditioned in racial supremacy and paranoia from toddlerhood, just like other land-stealing colonial-settlers around the world, including, of course, the US and European countries based in imperialist expansion. In just one show in December Goodman referred twice to the "murder" of Israelis by Hammas on Oct. 7, a term she has never used to describe the ravening dogs of Israeli genocide. The kibbutzim spearhead decades-long Zionist settlement by violent force of indigenous land, and the "love" concert on Oct. 7 took place between two kibbutz, drawing the kind of people who eithrr obliviously or hypocritically party near the border of an open-air prison like Gaza!🎉 Numerous TH-cam channels, like Electronic Intifada, Real News Network, Al-Jazeera, Owen Jones interviews, Break Out News, GK News, Young Turks, Middle East Eye, Mansour Shouman (in Gaza), MAS Knitting, Amazing Fishing, to name but a few, report far more broadly, deeply, and objectively than Goodman, which is not to say that they are faultless in petspectives and solidarity or that she never does very informative work. The military analysts paint a very different picture of Hammas' goals on Oct. 7. Goodman has patently and persiste🎉ntly attempted to frame the issue well before Oct. 7 as one of a conflict primarily between Jews and Palestinians instead of between working US taxpayers, 98% of whom are gentiles, and many thousands of whom are antiZionist Jews, and the corporate-dominated government here which has pumped $billions a year for decades into its client state of Israeli in return for Israeli assistance in its surveillance, paramilitary training, and weapons development to advance capitalist interests globally. Like many of those she favors to interview, e.g., Code Pink leaders and Jewish Voices for Peace (the name speaks for itself in its real position on resistance to military oppression) reps, there is silence on the plight of the millions stuck since 1948 in bad conditions in Palestinian refugee camps around the Middle East/Southwest Asia, on Israel's nuclear weapons production, and on its heavy role in serving as imperialism's "outpost of civilization among the barbarians," as Zionist leader Herzl in 1897 put it in seeking support from European monarchies for settlements in Palestine. Since Oct 7, and by at least mid-December when my listening to her show became irregular, Goodman's coverage has included only authors Tanehisi- Coates and Nguyen with a brief flash of Col. Wright at a demo as people not either of Jewish or Middle Eastern descent. At the national Nov. 4 Ceasefire demo in DC she managed to include brief comments from a couple of DSA whites, ethnicity unknown, hardly representative of the diversity of the marchers. Goodman included interviews on two days from Amiri Haas, a lavishly-praised reporter with El-Haaretz, a mainstream allegedly liberal Zionist newspaper known for its steady barrage of rabble-rousing front-page rants against the presence of African refugees attracted to Israel for its crafted image of democracy.

@_MAX__bk1029 To be called a traitor from genocide supporters is a medal of honor.
Any decent person in the world would want to be an Israeli Jew just for the pleasure of being called a traitor by people like you.

very brave young man,so good to see that there are genuinely good people in the world. Its extremely easy to become disheartened with when you see the way the world is and some of the horrible things that happen in the name of so called "defence" or "justice" but things like this give much needed hope to the people out there who want true justice and are not afraid to stand up for it.thank you Tal.

Violence and revenge will only lead to destruction. I salute Tal for standing up to what was right. He has shown compassion than the entire Israeli government. And his interpretation of the “from the river to the sea” was outstanding.

Don't let soulless monsters break you. You have chosen the right path, be a guide for the rest of the youth on this path of goodness, peace and justice. Make it clear that justice will prevail! My brother had a friend from Israel who refused to join the IDF, this was back in the early 2000's, he got off on medical grounds (psychological), he said fook that for a game of soldiers!! Doubt they would allow that now. May God bless this young man.

The moral clarity and courage of this 18 year old Israeli kid is beyond incredible! As is his maturity and thoughtful views. And even more so when you consider not only his age but the fact that young people in Israel are usually more militaristic, racist and supremacist than their parents already were. He deserves the world’s admiration, gratitude and support.
