You may recall, I'm the New Zealand based Luthier who recommended "The Book of Cowboys" to you. I've had 20 years of experience with that Taylor bass so I know it from top to bottom. As you progress though this repair that access port will be your very best friend!
Jerry, I would consider it a huge compliment. That is clearly an expensive guitar, and the owner has got his money back. Therefore he is in a position to pay to take it anywhere to get the rebuild done. The fact that he has given you 1St crack at it tells you something!
My first thought was, “ I hope Taylor paid him to take that.” I literally LOL’d a few times, not at you, Jerry, but in sympathy. I’m sorry it’s such a tough one.
Hi Jerry I like this format they may be shorter but I can always find 15-20 minutes sometimes the longer videos I have to save for weekends (and you can always put out the entire job in a long format afterwards!) I've been subscribed for years and shared many of your stories with my mates keep on keeping on top man!🇬🇧🇫🇴👍👏
The one and only reason this guy is picking on you is------- ---------------------, your the best of the best. I have watched several other luthiers videos and if they were fixing braces or neck resets they would think they have accomplished something. If they have cracks that are giving them problems they replace the whole piece thats broke. You my friend are a master troubleshooter, accoustic engineer, and master luthier all wrapped up in one brilliant package.
I understand why the shorter videos, but to be honest I like the longer ones best, but thats ok.I just hope you continue making some sort of videos because you are sharing your years of knowledge to the world, And I deeply appreciate what you do. Thanks and God bless.
Well he has bragging rights already. Honestly the customer is nuts for having it fixed, no sentimental value and was paid for it. I would save it for spare parts at best, or great kindling. Jerry will fix it though, looks like fun.
Hi Jerry, From what I've heard from others with hand problems, the C.B.D gummy bears are meant to help realy well for all types of pain and inflammation anywhere on the body . .so you can Google..C.B.D Gummy Bears..and you should be able to check them out for yourself. My mother in law is 70 and uses them and says they really help her very overworked hands..hop this may be an option for yourself.. Love the videos, from New Zealand
The difficult Jerry does tomorrow. The impossible Jerry does immediately. Found a guitar in a worse condition than this & not worth fixing so the birds get a new home.
I have two dumb suggestions. First, drill a tiny hole and use a small screw to pull the brace into line, then deal with the tiny hole later. Two, a welders brace that uses a vice grip handle might be long enough to get in there and hold it fast. They make them in long lengths just for this type of hold, and they aren't cheap, but they are not terribly expensive either. This thing looks almost as bad as Chocolate did! Hope you have all the parts.
Hi, Jerry. I've never wished so much that I could offer a suggestion. Could you have used a C clamp from the end of one wedge to the end of the opposing wedge and squeezed more than you could have with your hands? Too late! What an enigma! I look forward to the next video!
Jerry we know you can fix any thing, and the problem with the hand yes we are in the same boat as you are even when working on the trike is Taxing for me, but I'll do just about anything for another bike ride in the woods. Can"t wait to see this bass repair, good luck ,🎶🤔🎵
Hi Jerry, I couldn't see or didn't hear if you removed the black access cover in the bout near the end pin. It might give you a little more room to work and see the inside better. Your thought about the brace maybe floating above the bridge plate may be correct. In any case when you finally bring this back to life you will know that you have really done something special. In the end, making it sing or in this case have its deep bass voice heard again, there should be joy and that's what it is really all about. We old phonies from AT&T need to stick together so I hope all goes well. I'd wish you luck but this kind of work takes skill and common sense. My Dupy fingers caught up to me so I can't do much repair anymore. Ralph in Appleton, WI.
Looking forward to the new format! Man, that mess you got stuck with though. I can't believe you took that thing. You must have more compassion than common sense, and I say that with all due respect, because I tend to find myself in those situations as well. If anyone can fix her up, it's you, but man you took a big bite this time. lol
Those are expensive instruments and a bit rare, just not as common with less demand. Looks like a problem that is turned into a project. Enjoy your instrument repair videos and the other around the farm project stuff as well. Keep up the good work.
Have you looked at the ultrasound or near infrared red light therapy on hands? I'm looking at it for my index finger from clicking on the mouse at work all day.
Jerry I think you need to use an internal post clamp but first clamp the guitar in a vice or something like that so the top and bottom won’t push out.\
Maybe it would’ve been better to remove the brace and start over - the ends being fixed might keeping it from going flat in the middle. If it still wouldn’t conform, you could trim the ends of brace to fit and then reglue it.
Magnets from Magnet-Land, this would call for huge electromagnets. A great solution, but you would need a big corner of the shop for the electromagnet.
Jerry take care of your hands. My father an myself had Arthritis come and his hands stopped him an I could remember him in tears. Now its my turn spinal hand both knees and God is it painful. It hurts to right an it looks like 3rd grader hand writing. Talk about how instruments are made, I rather learn that at my age of 62. Do your best but save your hands. Play so the songs where you got to together with the band and inform us of how you all played together. I can think of many ways of how you can make short vides. God Bless you jerry.
Man that looks like a Friday over - time right before Christmas at the shipping dock. Almost firewood. It had to be done before it was put in the case do you think?
I've always wondered at what point it would be easier to take the top or the back off for an acoustic repair... Surely this guitar has reached that point?
Jerry this one looks like it should have went in the trash can and the Man by a new one you have your work cut out for you thank you for all Our your videos I have learned a lot from them, any idea of anybody that could help a disabled person to get an acoustic guitar thank you your fan judge Harrell
I left handed guitar is when I need I know how to play fairly well until I had my stroke and somebody broke into my house and stole my fender and my Gibson and a little cheap guitar that I started playing on to learn how to play that one had sentimental value really wasn't valuable but still that ain't nice thank you for your help in this manner
Clear example showing how important it is to properly humidify your acoustic instruments, this easily could have been avoided. (someone is going to get angry about this...) Love the videos!
Humidity issues might cause some cracks but that's about it. The amount of damage to this instrument has nothing to do with humidity. It was dropped, it got hit by something, or both.
oh wow easy access to braces It seems ,your a better man than me Jerry thats a mess, the design of the guitar is a mess but the customer wins ,well maybe
You may recall, I'm the New Zealand based Luthier who recommended "The Book of Cowboys" to you.

Hang in there. It hurts my hands to watch, but I'm watching anyway.
I had doubt when you started on “Chocolate”. No more doubting from me!
Jerry, whatever format you decide is fine with me (and most of your friends, I imagine). We are just happy to be able to hang out with you.
Another chocolate, except this is caramel. !
Good luck on this one Jerry. OUCH!
Jerry, I would consider it a huge compliment. That is clearly an expensive guitar, and the owner has got his money back. Therefore he is in a position to pay to take it anywhere to get the rebuild done. The fact that he has given you 1St crack at it tells you something!
Perfect example of why it’s so important to keep your wife happy and if you have an argument grab your guitars first!!
My first thought was, “ I hope Taylor paid him to take that.” I literally LOL’d a few times, not at you, Jerry, but in sympathy. I’m sorry it’s such a tough one.
I Think the Dr that owns that guitar has a smile on his face when he gets to tell a patient " This will hurt a bit"

With great enthusiasm I welcome your first vlog and an uncanny guitar...
Thank you Jerry 🎶🎶🎶

That was painful hope it goes better. I’m sure we all felt your pain.
I understand why the shorter videos, but to be honest I like the longer ones best, but thats ok.I just hope you continue making some sort of videos because you are sharing your years of knowledge to the world, And I deeply appreciate what you do. Thanks and God bless.
You could save your hands pressing the wedges together with a regular clamp.
Hi Jerry. The VLOG idea is great. It will be nice to see more content from your channel. Thanks!
Beautiful Taylor bass, it's commendable you are taking it on with the pain in your hands.
Only Dr Evil would drop off something that bad! 😜
After Jerry fixes this guitar he will definitely deserve to have bragging rights, IMO.
Well he has bragging rights already. Honestly the customer is nuts for having it fixed, no sentimental value and was paid for it. I would save it for spare parts at best, or great kindling. Jerry will fix it though, looks like fun.
Looks like the outcome of my last bar room misunderstanding!
Wow looks like the courier ran over it - good to see you are braking yourself in easy with the new format!

Jerry You sure know how to have fun. Keep Smiling Adam
Nice suprise. This may be a battle for the ages. Can't wait.
Good luck with that repair Jerry you need it 👍
See you tomorrow 👍🏻
The difficult Jerry does tomorrow. The impossible Jerry does immediately. Found a guitar in a worse condition than this & not worth fixing so the birds get a new home.
Woohoo! A new video series! Good luck with the bass, Jerry. It sure looks like a doozy.
I have two dumb suggestions. First, drill a tiny hole and use a small screw to pull the brace into line, then deal with the tiny hole later. This had me on the edge of my seat! Really!
keep on making the videos Jerry….The shorter format is fine 🙏🏼🌞
You always tend to find the answers to difficult questions. Looking forward to your next answer!
Can you call the manufacturer and ask?
Hi, Jerry. I've never wished so much that I could offer a suggestion. Could you have used a C clamp from the end of one wedge to the end of the opposing wedge and squeezed more than you could have with your hands? Too late! What an enigma! I look forward to the next video!
Jerry, I recommend running a cross grain spline down the back of your homemade clamp. Pretty easy to put it in.
The greater the mess, the better the video. I’m confident that you will turn this scrapheap in a nice bass guitar, eventually.
Jerry we know you can fix any thing, and the problem with the hand yes we are in the same boat as you are even when working on the trike is Taxing for me, but I'll do just about anything for another bike ride in the woods. Can"t wait to see this bass repair, good luck ,🎶🤔🎵
Feel your pain on internal clamping, tougher than it looks.
To say that is a challenge would be an understatement, but i know you'll fix it!
you sucker you....just kidding. what a challenge! kinda like chocolate .

buddy do I ever know what you're going thru with the hands, I was forced to stop trying to play the banjo because of mine. good luck with yours.
I like every thing you do the short format is fine any one it doesn't suit can always save them up and then watch them one after the other
Great start!!!!! I'm already ready for the next VLOG/ BLOG
love you guys jerry dont quite the videos.... just try to click bait your titles more to get out of the search engine graveyard
Excellent project. If anyone can do it you can for sure.
Comment for the algorithm
Hi Jerry.
I have tha same bass.
Please remove the black cover plate on the lower bout rib. It will make your access so much easier.
Not much more access needed and really no need to remove, plenty of access.
Frieslán Boppe ;-)
@@RosaStringWorks was going to suggest the same.. Sure but it can shorten the distance and allow you to use better clamps... more clamp
Looking forward to the new format! Man, that mess you got stuck with though. I can't believe you took that thing. This is a fun format. Maybe a lazer pointer would help point out bracing inside and in hard to show places. Just a thought. Thanks from MN.
Looks like kindling from over here in Alabama
Good job, Jerry I probably would have used duct tape.
You are the Wizard!
VERY SORRY ABOUT THE HANDS...I CAN RELATE
*waynemarc77* - Me too.
Those are expensive instruments and a bit rare, just not as common with less demand. Looks like a problem that is turned into a project. Enjoy your instrument repair videos and the other around the farm project stuff as well. Keep up the good work.
Go Jerry!
Good format. Keep the experiment going. Thanks, Jerry.
Somebody probably got a good deal! Jerry, your problem solving is like eating an elephant. One bite at a time.
That’s bananas
Have you looked at the ultrasound or near infrared red light therapy on hands? I'm looking at it for my index finger from clicking on the mouse at work all day.
Why you? You have a history of liking musical instrument jigsaw puzzles. 😀😀
Jerry I think you need to use an internal post clamp but first clamp the guitar in a vice or something like that so the top and bottom won’t push out.\
What model of Taylor bass is that?
Maybe it would’ve been better to remove the brace and start over - the ends being fixed might keeping it from going flat in the middle. If it still wouldn’t conform, you could trim the ends of brace to fit and then reglue it.
hi jerry goodluck whit that guitar . question .do you use paypal as payment for download songs ?
and are the songs downloadble ? thanks
Much prefer the other format. Longer and with music. Overall more enjoyable. Incidentally jerry, praying for your hands starting today.
Could powerful magnets do the trick?
Magnets from Magnet-Land, this would call for huge electromagnets. A great solution, but you would need a big corner of the shop for the electromagnet.
LOL...Looks like that bass was used in a bar fight.
😯 😯
Duct tape, definitely duct tape.

It may not have come with a case.
I've always wondered at what point it would be easier to take the top or the back off for an acoustic repair... Surely this guitar has reached that point?
Rosa String Works you do good work on instruments if anyone can find a way make it work you will.
Why I had NO IDEA Pete Townsend played bass! 😁
Jerry this one looks like it should have went in the trash can and the Man by a new one you have your work cut out for you thank you for all
Our your videos I have learned a lot from them, any idea of anybody that could help a disabled person to get an acoustic guitar thank you your fan judge Harrell

You need to acquire another apprentice Jerry...!
Jerry if you could rebuild Chocolate you can handle this one:)
Actually i kind of like the idea of doing the videos in 15 to 20 minute segments. That poor bass...OMG!
Well after all a screw is simply a circular wedge isn't it?
Yeah but it's not as much fun, to say "You're wedged".
Clear example showing how important it is to properly humidify your acoustic instruments, this easily could have been avoided.
(someone is going to get angry about this...)
Love the videos!
Humidity issues might cause some cracks but that's about it. The amount of damage to this instrument has nothing to do with humidity. It was dropped, it got hit by something, or both.
I knew you would get it, with all that trauma, things changed up s bit. You will get her put back. Just like chocolate, It will be fun!
Well, you could order a new one from Taylor, up that cost by 20% and give the Doctor a bill for that?
I’m being facetious, remove the strings first😃
Secretly order a new one
That thing looks like it's made out of old cereal boxes.
If you can’t fix it, it can’t be fixed.
oh wow easy access to braces It seems ,your a better man than me Jerry thats a mess, the design of the guitar is a mess but the customer wins ,well maybe
If you need a older apprentice jerry ill get a visa sorted and give you a hand!
you may have to take the top off.
we callit a fat chocolate
I think that should be Phat.
I'd have burnt the dern thing. Ugly pile of junk anyway.
