LYRICS:
For much too long the church has been
an underdog to the feat of men
God's building a church on the rise
We've been trampled on in the heat of the fight
This church has got eternal bright
It's almost time for church to fly
God's building a church (and I'm so glad that...)
Chorus:
God's building a church
It's gonna march like a mighty army man
God's building a church
It'll be water to the dry and barren land
God's building a church
It's gonna rise from a valley of dead dry bones
Sanctified
Glorified
Filled with the holy ghosts power and might
Purified with fire divine
God's building a church
On Calvary's tree it started there
He handed it down to the hands of men
God's building a church on the rise (and I like this...)
Satan's about to run in fright
As the saints of God in glorious might
We raced across the enemy lines
With holy banners wavin' high
God's building a church
It's going to march like a mighty army man
God's building a church
It'll be water to the dry and barren land
God's building a church
It's gonna rise from a valley of dead dry bones
Sanctified
Glorified
Filled with the holy ghosts power and might
Purified with fire divine
God's building a church
And it'll be sanctified glorified, sanctified glorified, sanctified glorified
Filled with the holy ghosts power and might
Purified with fire divine
God's building a church
(Ooooh...)
God's building a church
It's gonna march like a mighty army man
God's building a church
It'll be water to the dry and barren land
God's building a church
It's gonna rise from a valley of dead dry bones
Sanctified
Glorified
Filled with the holy ghosts power and might
Purified with fire divine
God's building a church
(We're gonna be...)
Santified
Glorified
Filled with the holy ghost's power and might
Purified with fire divine
God's building a church (He's building a church)

That bass dude just shredded everything around him....mercy.
Neattylu Lu: “that bass due” is Tim Riley
Tim can do it! JD Sumner would be proud!
MERCY YES!!!
Everythaaaaaaaaang!!!
@@gregorylucas7837 JD Sumner wishes he was as good as Tim.
Tim Riley is a monster bass for sure. But honestly I listen to this song mostly for Jay Parrack. Few tenors have this goosebump potential.
Pull up the video of GC singing “In Time, On Time, Every Time” off this same recording session. Jay sings lead on that song and goes into the stratosphere with authority. He also gets an “I’m not worthy” bow of praise from Sandi Patty at the end
I love Jay but......Brian Free was my "goosebump" creator! :) Talk about a clear tenor voice!!!
Jay, along with his Daddy, both!!!! 🤍
WORD!!!! EVERYTHING YOU'VE SAID IS TRUE!!!! TIM IS MY ROLE MODEL N JAY IS MY FAVOURITE TENOR
I like them all, but I love the Bass, and the tall blond brother, Tenor. God Bless them all. Are they still living in 2023? 🙏❣️❣️❣️❣️. The band too. 🙋 Charlotte in Oregon
This groups has one of the HIGHEST and LOWEST male voices I've ever heard. What a blessed combination!!! Praise the Lord...
Ain't?
Yes I Love Bass Singer's
🙏
Even Phelps is looking on in amazement!
Agree
One of the best quartets to ever grace the stage ,strongest 4 part vocal in quartet history
I always remember Gold City when they had Ivan Parker and I can't remember the Tenor's name. They were a hoot.
The tenor was the great Brian Free, in my opinion the greatest SG tenor that has stood the test of time, singing a demanding high tenor part for over 40 years without major vocal problems. In fact his voice quality has actually improved over the years.
I love Jay as well. His style allowed GC to explore a slightly different style of music, a bit more brassy that Brian’s voice wouldn’t have pulled off as well. It was this lineup that was in place at the time I became interested in southern gospel, and it was the 2000 NQC recording of “Get up, Get Ready” that hooked me on these guys. I didn’t discover the Brian, Ivan, Mike combo until later. Love them all.
@@Mark-sj3xb I dunno. Young Danny Funderburk was SICK!
Glenn Payne’s finger at 2:54, priceless 👍
I thought that was Glen Payne. He went to be with the Lord in 1999. Mark Lowry looks really young, too.
😊 You know i've watched this so many times and never noticed that finger, yes, it's really priceless.😂
I don’t see the finger

Still watching this in 2020, SANG IT TIM!!!
Saw this in 2016.
Love how the "legends" react when Tim turns it loose. LOVE IT!
Yeah right ? 🤩🤩 they be like 😱
God's building a church. It's going to be sanctified, glorified, filled with the holy ghost power and might. Yes God's building a church. Praise Jesus.
Love the look on Marks face watching Tim.
I always love Mr Lowry's reaction to basses when they let loose and get down in the basement as it were.
I absolutely love the surprise on everyone's face when Tim hits that first "basement" note. Love. It!
This quartet is the best to ever do it. Parrack and Riley showcase on this song but Wilburn and Trammell are two of the best blend guys you'll hear. Wilburn could chase Parrack on the high notes and endings and Trammell's range and solo ability is unmatched.
Heard a latest version of this song and... this version is incomparable,Jay,Tim,Jonathan and Marc are blessed
Dude I saw this on public access tv when I was like 7, that bass dude really stuck in my memory and this is my first time seeing it since then! Im 25 now, I never thought I'd find it.
Interesting, at the very end, the second tenor sings a brief line which sounds like mid-range compared to the first tenor holding the note next to him. However, not so -- the second tenor is nailing an A. Wow. Amazing dynamics.
Larry Gatlin's reaction at 2:57 perfectly exemplifies what it was like hearing Tim Riley during the years I was lucky enough to tour with him. All you can do is shake your head. The absolute best ever.
I'm an athiest but I respect the talent that these people have. Music is something that brings us together
That’s very kind of you to say! You’re absolutely right.
I’m atheist too and i love this channel’s videos
April 2nd, 2021 We may not be watching this much longer friends, because.... the signs are all around us that "God's Church" is getting ready to go HOME!!!!! Hallelujah!
I don't feel good has accomplished what he wants to do yet
@@jaredbrown8742 What is your belief about the Rapture, Jared?
Nothing has happened.. except things are Worse.
Cringe. Remind me in five years.
Here in 2024 Jesus return for the church could be anytime. Be ready to go home.
I saw em several times back around this time. I have a friend who's Tim's great neice. I've been to a concert with every genre. There's nothing as vocally impressive as a 1st rate southern gospel quartet.
When I was little, my parents and my late grandpa would watch the whole DVD on Sunday afternoons. I would sit with them and watch while the other kids played outside😂❤️
Omg my parents too. That's all I remember watching growing up.
Amen hallelujah praise GOD keep doing for the LORD use your gift amen
😂😂 When I was little, they hadn't invented DVDs yet. We went to a singin' and watched them live. Kudos to your parents!
People are giving so much credit to Tim and yes he is a literal god but the tenor was insane in this song. Singing all the way up to a C#5 and the end for a good few seconds. The whole group has insane talent.
Not to mention he makes it look absolutely effortless!
Gold City has been the gold standard for years (decades, really). Although the members have changed, this iteration is the best one - at least to me.
Hes a Parrack!
He competes, in my opinion, on an equal footing with David Phelps.
I love watching Glenn Payne and Larry Gatlin's reaction to this song.
Mark's reaction at 1:56 on Tim's G1 is amazing...
There’s nothing any better then Gold City!
I love when Tim acknowledges Eva Mae, a loving pat of sheer admiration.
I love Gold City. The dude singing the high part is good. He can hit this high notes
what a wonderful bass singer. Praise God..
Enjoyed the Bass of the big man,he's my best ever Bass I have ever heard....Mr Tim
It's impressive listening to Jay in this song, this combination of voices is unique and the best
Bass line at 1:17 is bad-ass... Gold City, regardless of the line-up, puts out some amazing, uplifting songs... I am SO ready for we, the saints, to run rampant with the Power of God the Holy Spirit..
Love this song! God is indeed building his church. Glory to his name!!! 😁
I love this praise song! I am killing the replay button hehe! Praise God! I am part of that church!!!!!!!
zomb13 mincraft me too,
from Brazil.
Yes God is building the Church
Me too
@@marionsmith3851 no, God is not building the church. He already built His church.
Tim Riley is the MAN!
I THINK GOD IS USING THESE MEN TO GET TO ME.I LOVE THEM ALMOST EVERYDAY I LISTEN TO THEM
I wrote God's Buildin A Church on Labor Day of 1996. I had been in intercession for 5 young people in my church. As some of them began to repent and follow God in earnest I was full of praise to God.
Sandy Knight wrote this song. Stop claiming that you have written these songs.
I just want to say hallelujah praise GOD I’m saved and going home!!! He even changed me!!!
I'm not religious but I still can't get over how good this song is. Mostly due to the boss voices at either end of the tonal spectrum but it's catchy as well
Thats the spirit speaking to you! open your ears and listen
It's all about the range, you are hearing the entire spectrum and any group that can cover the whole spectrum sounds amazing. Pentatinix are an amazing group and for all their success are still quite humble. Well worth hitting the search bar for this group!
Jesus loves you! If you just call upon him, and ask him into your heart. Believe he died for your sins and resurrected from the dead, and ask him for forgiveness of your sins, and turn from bad habits of sin, you will be guaranteed enteral life in a beautiful heaven with Jesus Christ!
Same. The musicianship and performance energy really hook you in! I can't stop watching this clip!
I love this group, keep in singing for the lord.
1peter 2:5 we are being built up as a spiritual house.this is God church all believers from the four corners of the earth,we must remember God does not dwell in buildings made of human hands.
Amen!!!!!
The dude's face at 1:55 lol! This song is legit! Love it!
Amazing G1 at 1:43!!!
Man that bass is so incredible. It made me laugh and happy.
I’m very proud of this group! Amen to every single word of the song!!!!
I like it at the very end when Larry Gatlin says "mercy"!
Just heard this group on a local radio station. And I've been playing their songs everyday. Got my husband and kids singing it too lol
Watching Calvin Newton enjoying himself with a smile on his face while Jay Parrack was singing made my day. Don't worry, Calvin, he will never be as good a tenor singer as you are. You're the best, in my book.
I love david Phelps reaction when he hears the bass singer!
When Tim Riley sings that really low note the look on Mark Lowry's face of amazement is priceless. David Phelps gives a smile of disbelief also.
I believe this was the first full day of taping. Seeing.Larry Gatlin there, we taped the Gatlin's video on Sunday night. I was sitting off to Tim's left during this and it was just great. Ah the memories.
Wow! What a blessing!!
Can I buy this DVD? What was the name of this Homecoming vid?
Wow....what year was that??☺️
Itsnorlyn..I believe it was Sweet,Sweet Spirit that this was on. Time wise I'm guessing. I sang with the Weatherfords from 90-97 so in that time frame somewhere.
Amen, yes he is building a church!
2021 28th august and still listening to this awesome song
thank you for posting.... so glad Jesus Christ is my Savior and I am part of the church He is building....Praise God!
It's funny seeing Tim Riley singing in Sumner and Younce "territory"
stackableg Yep. Tim flew largely under the radar during that Gaither golden era. He absolutely belongs in that elite group.
This is one of the greatest groups of all time. Tim Riley...that is all.
It requires some serious talent to hit those bass notes IN TUNE, while actually singing the words and not just making sounds at that pitch.
And I don't have a clue how Jay does what he does, the closest word I have is Falsetto, but maybe it's just God Given. I do not know!
My favorite Gold City Lineup !! great song ,perfect harmony =D
Man,love to hear Tim sing BASE!!!
"Bass" dude😄
@@davidhunter2393 lol
This is my favorite gold city group jay parrack is super freakin high hes awesome and Tim Riley super low notes this is the strongest they ever were in my opinion as a group great song to Jay was the best tenor they ever had great group loved them awesome
Gold City - among the very best in Christian show business.
I dip blessing from this one, quite often. When the veteran quartets, react this way...it says more about your music, than any words can! Praise God, this is some of the very best.
Hearing this song for the first time and totally loving it.
Matthew 16:18
And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this 🪨rock I will build my church✝️; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. 🛡
at the end of the video.........Larry Gatlin sums it up perfectly........"Mercy"
Welcome to the year 2024 😊😊😊
When Larry Gatlin is impressed. You’ve got something son.
Love gold city
THIS BASS IS THE BEST EVER I LOVE THIS SONG
Absolutely the best line-up of Gold City ever to make music. It has never been the same since they broke up. Used to go see them at the convention in Louisville. There is a message in every song they sang, Their music saw me thru some real hard times in my life.
Dottie Cummings absolutely the best lineup ever. Tim, Mike, Ivan and Brian are close, but not THAT close.
one of my favorite songs growing up. every road trip my dad had this cd on and all us kids loved this song!
My favorite part of this video is watching David Phelps purely enjoy watching a fellow master tenor.
The greatest gospel quartet.
Ever.
Praise Jesus Christ hallelujah! What a blessed and anointed song🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌. This will get you happy 😃😃😃To God be the glory!!!! God bless these men and their families and all our families!!!!
how beautiful. pure blessing, look at David Phelps enjoying ... just beasts.
Amen☝🙏❤🙏🙌All Honor,Glory and Praise be to God🙏❤🙏🙌🙌👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌☝
Still watching this in 2022
Jay Parrack is phenomenal!
They were performing at Silver Dollar City the weekend I married my wife in 2013. Was so tired we had to return to our hotel and miss out on what I was told was a stellar performance!
Saw this in person. They're awesome
This is the peak of the Southern Baptist Church.
I could listen to this song everyday. Thank you Jesus for including me in your church.
I love gold cyty
i lovvvve this,i love the bit at the end where they go ooh OO ooh OOO lol if you get what im talking about! I love Jays Anointed Voice! I listen to all the videos i see him over an over!!!
This is like the Trap Queen of praise and worship music.
LOVE GOLD CITY! We listen to our CD often!
Gospel is the best
Great song. The tenor is just amazing.
david phelps and mark lowery look absolutely astonished!! so much joy
Man I love this sound! God is building that church!!!! Whewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!
Best Lineup Of Gold City EVER!!!!
Agreed
Every time I watch this, I love it more and more.
Wonderful! I love this group the best of all Gold City performers.
Awesome! Thank you JESUS!
As phenomenal as the singers and the delivery are, the message of the song resonates with me here in 2022.
Now that's how you sing bass Bill Gaither
Lee Dunlap amen brother
He was a baritone before. Allow the man
Yeah Bill Gaither is a decent Baritone, but the Bass singers are pure Masters of their craft and should be left in the league that they own.
love me some gold city... was blessed enough to see them live at the Grand old Opry. Around about 1996 in Nashville.. . It was cool when Porter Wagner introduced them...
Glory be to God
2021 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣Hallelujah Jesus here I come.... What a beautiful annointed voices... To God be the Glory thank you Jesus
Goście wymiatają. Brawo Wy tak trzymać.
Jay is just like his dad. Amen
Long time tenor and bass favorites! Jay and Tim are something extraordinary.
I meet the gold city before. Love this song
Its not religion thats going to get you to heaven. It's Jesus he laid the price for us when he died and rose again the 3rd day. Only Jesus can save your soul.
They never said otherwise. 🤷🏻♀️
Get it, boys!
