Greetings from Ireland, I have six different colour alstroemerias growing in pots. They flower from mid April up to late September. I feed them with tomato food once a week, They are the bees knees.

I have seen other gardeners suggest shading transplants or plants vulnerable to shock with a lawn chair placed over top for a few days so that it can be less stressed from sun and heat during the adjustment period. It sure is a pretty plant...new to me...I'm zone 5b/6a so I'll just have to enjoy yours!

What a great idea! Shading a plant with something temporary definitely should help it adjust easier. Fortunately it was cloudy and rainy after I planted it so hopefully that helped. It may not survive my winters. I planted it in the warmest place I could think of .. so… hopefully 🙏

@@letsgrow260 Maybe something to insulate the root ball over winter - innertube filled with leaves? Does it bloom on new or old wood? Do you think the branches also need winter protection?

@@patbryan602 what I have read said to pull the whole stem out when dead-heading instead of cutting off blooms. That supposedly encourages more blooming. So I guess it send up new shoots constantly with blooms. So it sounds like it blooms on new growth only. It has tubers.. much like irises I guess.. so they can be pulled and kept inside during the winter if one wanted to. This plant is brand new to me too.. so it will be a learning process😉
