Best video yet! Many bypass videos out there but this is the first to advise to remove back panel and store RFID right in the cavity. No tape, no bulge! Ingenious! Thanks Munchy.
I watched several videos on this problem, and yours was the best solution. I took the RFID chip off of a genuine GE filter and used two-sided tape to place it in the chamber you identified. The system tells me the new generic filter is out of date, but it works. Thank you!
this video brought back all my memories of the Keurig coffee pod hack when greedy Keurig integrated a barcode reader and all coffee pods had to be Keurig authorized brand only. It didn't take long for word to get out that all you had to do is tape a used pod's barcode onto the reader and you could then use any pod you wanted. Corporate greed is disgusting! Thanks for the video
Thank you! I didn’t realize you could get to the reader so easily. I did this a little different though. Instead of cutting the chip out of the plug, I cut the chip off of the original filter and put it in with the reader. Works great!
Insightful, fridge is now six months old. What a pain to have to spend 3-4x more money for a real filter vs aftermarket. Literally we're being charged for the chip when the water coming out of the tap is the same.
I have a 6 year old GE refrigerator and I am in the middle of remodeling my kitchen. GE sent me a 30% off offer for new appliances, and their serviceman and system was awesome on a recent repair. My old appliances are all GE, but I will never buy another GE appliance because of this filter SCAM! I will buy a fridge, dishwasher, cooktop, oven, 2nd oven, microwave and trash compactor from ANY other company that does not sell SCAM PROPRIETARY FILTERS.
Hi Is there a specific spot we need to put the rfid sensor we cut out after unscrewing the back panel? Doesn’t it have to perfectly align with where the sensor on an rpwfe would normally be? Thank you
depending on the kind of rfid tag they use it should be possible to clone it, unless it uses some protection, but i have done something similar with a dymo printer
Fantastic video. Great suggestion on how to stop purchasing the very expensive rpwfe filters. They were designed by an idiot. And smarter people like you out Fox them. Anything that man makes, man can figure out a solution to bypass just have you have done here. Thank you very much. But you also did a big favor to ge. By telling them something intelligent in terms of feedback. Why don't they have a gallon meter displayed on there refrigerator, just as you suggest, telling the customer how many gallons have gone through the filter. Time matters and nothing. It's number of gallons going through a filter that count towards when a filter should be replaced. So not only did you help end customers like myself, but also you help ge. By the way, because GE installed this radio frequency ID tag system on their filters and then charged five times as much for a filter as they needed to, I will never purchase another GE product ever. It's also important for everyone to realize that when you buy GE products, they are owned by a Chinese Communist company. The Chinese she on everything they build from their materials, to the amount of time it takes for the machine to work, to the reliability of the product, everything. GE used to be a good name. But now it is junk. I would never buy another GE refrigerator again.
The locking tabs on the cheap RPWF filters make it not fit into the fridge’s female input designed for RPWFE filters. The chip hack is only half the battle. 😢

If you used the original filter (that came with the fridge?) chip wouldn't it still give the replace filter message after 6 months?

Thank you. The idea to put the chip inside the panel was great. It's one and done! No more fooling around with heatguns and stickers.
Glad it helped
Worked like a charm! Thanks bud

Thank you so much for this. So simple, so obvious... yet I never thought of it....
