Like their first album screams "cliche teenage summer" to me and it takes me right back that place, then young blood came when I was going through the end of my first serious relationship like... they have managed to grow with their fans, intuitively, which is such an interesting thing to watch as a bystander and as a fan it's that "omg how did you know i needed to hear this right now?!"
Me as a swiftie and 5SOS fan since both of their beginnings. I love how Taylor embraces her old music and 5SOS openly hate on their old music but still sing it for us like at those concerts they were peer pressured by fans and how Don’t Stop is on the 5SOS show tour set list 😂
I love Dan's presence in the interviews cause he's always speaking up for the fandom. Bringing up Don't Stop, the tier list, including the tweets in past interviews, or even just asking what we want to know. He truly listens to us!

I was listening to their debut album the other day after a looooong time. Holds up pretty well. It encapsulates a lot of being a teenager in love, from perspectives that were respectful towards women and different than what previous bands were doing - like, who the hell other than them would’ve sung about waiting to be an adult to hook up with someone older? Even if the scenario raises questions of its own, it’s just… very unique, and I am glad they had this experience of writing their own material, from their perspective, because they really push themselves to evolve and that is reflected on their albums - which get maturer each time. With that being said, it is no surprise that they do not emotionally connect with don’t stop (and likely most of it) anymore, as the lyrics are too juvenile for married adults to be singing in a more “serious” scenario, and they take themselves very seriously as musicians. I also think the fact they started very young + being foreigners + having an audience of women means they went through certain prejudices in the process, and being “embarrassed” of songs like don’t stop is a consequence of that/them trying to “embrace” these people so they can finally see what the band is all about NOW. I’ve been a fan since their debut and I am really looking forward to the new album!
I do respect their opinion, it is their own music and they have a right to like or dislike any of their older songs. They are the ones who made the music. And it makes sense that they wanna do music that they love now. Fans shouldn’t get irritated at them for that. I loveeee Don’t Stop and I respect the fact that they don’t
I love all of their phases, the boys are always evolving and changing like life does. I feel happy to listen to their old job and see the evolution and, at the same time, feel the nice features it have. "Don't Stop" is a fun teenage song, it made it's purpose. 😆😁

Most of their songs were good, it's just the lyrics. They are just like me reading my old writing... can't stand it! It worse for them because they are constantly reminded of it all the time.
AGREED!! As someone who has been a fan since 2011, when i listen to their old music i try to tune out the lyrics to some songs. If you listen to their discography in order, you can really hear the improvement in songwriting.

Anyways, I absolutely love their newer stuff and can't wait to see what they have done now.
