They've already confirmed that there's going to be shooting, both space crafts and gun-in-hand, mercenaries whom you can take out, animals, people etc... No Man's Sky is much more than just an exploration game and while I like my exploration games, to have success it needs to have more than just exploration...

U know, I can't put my finger on it, but the color or the lighting or how the planets look from a distance, just looks better than what we have now!
I know there are still some things that are STILL not in the game yet, like actual planets orbiting its sun or rotatation around its axis! Bigger creatures still does not affect trees, like in trailers! Or like asteroids not popping in or as much like in the trailers!
They may do that or not, but I do hope that will be a thing to come! :)

Honestly, I am kind of disappointed(as of now) on the lack of atmosphere depth of the "planets" Like, you just see the whole giant planet, and you get near and like almost instantly you already see the ground of the planet and you land really fast. I want to slowly start to see land, and see awesome landscapes as I descend. Just as if you were a rocket descending towards Earth. Anybody else agree?
Yeah, having a 1/8 mile thick atmosphere is sad. Very much takes away from the feeling of exploring something big.

Beginning of galaxy map sequence: oh wow, that's a lot of star systems to visit, must be at least a hundred. During the next 45 seconds of the the sequence: I feel so utterly tiny in the face of this, this is beautiful.

I have never been this excited for any other game. It kind of disappoints me that all these people are complaining that there's no mission or main goal. For one, they haven't said that, and they have said that a goal would be to get to the center of the universe, although they would be perfectly okay if no one ver actually did that. Two, what's wring with having no story? Minecraft doesn't have a story, in fact it hardly has more of a goal than No Man's Sky seems to have, and yet it's the third best selling video game in history. Not all games need a story to be functional and enjoyable. In some cases, yes, a video game would certainly benefit from a story. The aim of No Man's Sky however, is for you to be able to tell your own story. They don't want you to be able to view a walkthrough of it on TH-cam and never need to see it again because you already know everything about it. They want each person's story to be completely unique. Don't stop what you're doing Hello Games.

I am absolutely sick of people complaining "what's the objective", "will there be any battles or wars", "gameplay sucks so boring", This game a a fantasy sci-fi exploration game. It's about the experience of interstellar travel, the awesome landscapes and soundscapes and being able to explore the uncharted worlds and creatures in those planets. You know the state of gaming is dominated by crappy FPS's when everyone is expected it to be a sci-fi shoot em up. Real sad :(

If this "game" is a piece of interactive art, it should be marketed as such. The developers of Flower for PS3 made their purpose clear, and customers were very happy with the product they purchased.
If No Man's Sky is really just "Fly from planet to planet where you can see biomes populated by random assortments of animals made in Spore's creature creator" I don't see how this game could be interesting for more than 30 minutes. While I agree that making it an FPS would be a bad idea, people expect some level of gameplay out of the games they buy.
Without the ability to interact with things in a meaningful way, I don't see the advantage of using video games as a medium for this form of art. In my opinion, it's not particularly impressive art either. :/

@@tufflucal4037 orbiting planets was in the game but it kept being reported as a bug and it was riddled with problems so the decided to remove it

Brendan Forish That is too true, but having at least 1 or 2 gas giants in each system would be cool, like the different wind speeds would affect your flying, or the different composition would have certain effects on your ship. All just suggestions

Sorry for not writing this in English but I could not translate everything for myself (I'm from Chile, I speak spanish): El juego le da un número a cada planeta, entonces hace una fórmula matemática y da el resultado. De esta forma el resultado siempre es el mismo y la consola/PC no tiene que guardar en memoria los miles de billones de planetas que hay en el juego.

When they created it, they probably made a ton of materials, animations, textures, etc then they used a computer to generate the land.

Planetside in nms looks better than star citizen limited maps.And dont forget nms has fps combat on planets with the ability to destroy enviroments.Also if you wach the trailer you can see that your avatar can talk and other ai ships can enter planets.

No, it was confirmed by the creators, if you discovered 1 planet ever second it would take you 550 BILLION years to completely discover each one.
Actually each planet is unique and random, you never know what you find, although the chance of finding a lush planet is quite rare.
I respectfully disagree, I think that each planet would be different, in every way.The procedural generator isn't called 'procedural' for nothing. "How planets are created will be based on some simple rules. For example, the distance from the sun will determine the likeliness of there being moisture. The type of sun (Yellow Sun, Red Dwarf, Red Giant etc) will affect the quality of light on the planets. The colour of the water in the atmosphere will derive from what liquid it is. MIT Tech Review". I think I heard Sean Murray say that every planet is unique as well.
Add oculus rift for that one and I can guarantee minds will blow

The fact that the game looks even better is incredible. Huge respect to the devs for not giving up on a game that has massive potential.
Anyone else notice the Health Bar and Bullets (possibly ammo) on each upper edge corner of the screen? What if this game is something more than just an exploration game? ...Can't wait to find out.
You can shoot spaceships in space and can shoot animals, robots, buildings on land. Shooting is most definitely confirmed. You can upgrade stuff as well. They are trying to keep some of what you do secret until te game is launched, though, so that there will still be surprises.

Filip Pham When you go somewhere new its created, when you leave its deleted, however if you go back its all still there. We where told to imagine the game like a massive equation. 1+1 will always equal 2, and the same goes for No Man's Sky when generating planets. Its all just lots of amazing pretty numbers!

Good luck mate you need 8,033 hours to walk around Earth if there isnt any water to stop you so in No Mans Sky it will take you almost a full year.

As a completionist, I'm going to be driven mad by this game. As a gamer, I can't wait.
500 billion years at only one second on every planet. We haven't even discovered all of Earth yet. Your completion side should be rocking in a corner in your mind, because you can NEVAR EVER EVER EVER complete this game.
You can complete it, I think the main objective is to reach the center. The planets are more for exploration and mining.
That is true, though as xtremetuberVII said, it would be impossible to visit every planet and explore everything, making it impossible to get 100% completion. I'm still majorly looking forward to it, though, especially if I can get my friends to get the game too. I'll have to be content with completing the main objective.

From reading the comments I can see people are seriously overhyping this game. Its purely an exploration game and there won't be much else to do apart from what has been shown in all the trailers. It looks beautiful but please take in mind its an indie game, I hope when it releases people don't complain on how its not like Elite Dangerous or Star Citizen.

capenati Well there is other stuff. They have ground combat and space combat, there's some sort of story, then you gotta upgrade / buy new stuff through exploration. I don't really think this game can be overhyped. Like, we're getting so little info, that many people are just excited enough about the exploration b/c of just how vast it is. Vatyan NMS's graphics had a big update, subtly hinted in the New-Yorker article. In the trailer you can see little bugs like floating grass and ships dissapearing ( which now for me are impossible to unsee) but that's probably all now fixed.
If only we had known the truth back then, so much could've been averted...

firetools Someone kinda already did it. Way back in 1993. It's called Elite 2. Could explore the entire galaxy. And it all fit into a 740k diskette. And was way more fun than NMS.
And Star Citizen does have plans for exploration mechanics to discover new jump points into the star systems for players to discover, chart and then sell those charts.

Okay I want to clear the air with some people. The developers stated that this game is mainly exploring. They will have combat but they already said space combat will be arcady and ground combat will probably also be standard. Combat is a part of the game but it is not core. I feel like everyone wants to see some crazy fps combat, its not going to happen because its not what this game is about. Everyone is asking what this game is about and its been said a bunch of times the main aspect is exploring. Like minecraft what is the game really about, its about crafting. To some crafting is just boring and the same with exploring. If that is the case for you then you just have to accept the fact that the game is just not for you. I personally enjoy the main aspect being exploring and think that complicated combat that would switch the focus from exploring would be a downside for me.
That's fine but there still has to be some kind of objectives. Maybe like a settlers of catan type of thing with planets/solar systems instead. That would be amazing.
***** Does minecraft give you objectives? Do most sandbox games give you objectives? This game is not about that and its been stated before. The only idea of an objective in the game would be to get to the center of the galaxy but you can play the game how you want. There does not have to be some kind of objective like you want for a game to be fun. It gives you a universe, some tools, some ways to play the game and then you do what you want.

thesmartguy964 All games give you objectives, i.e. the characters in GTA5 (sandbox example). Minecraft gives you objectives as well. It sends out monsters at night that you have to defend. Getting to the center of the galaxy. Now that's interesting. The game can let you do that in your way as long as it's deep with some level of complexity and clear progress. If that's an objective in the game, that's cool. It's just that you can't tell what you have to do, if anything, from the trailer.

I really want this game, I love the idea of it. Space and procedural generation, are my weak spot. Love starbound too, I just hope it gets some updates to curve the progression and goals better! :)

Honestly, this is all I've ever wanted in a game. I don't want a reason, I just want to be able to explore a gigantic world without a story getting in the way. If there is an online multiplayer mode where you could have a private server for you and your friends, then this will probably be one of my favourite games just under majoras mask and mass effect 2.

This game is beyond realistic in terms of scenarios, because in real life when we will get out into space there is no telling what type of planets or weird animals there will be and they've transmogrified that feeling into a video game! Amazing, simply amazing.

ExoticSpeedify Ummm the Center is not the end.You only visited the Center of a Galaxy,but is it clearly stated in trailers and on No Man's Sky Website that you have to find the center of THE UNIVERSE.To find it you need to go through multiple galaxies.Also in 5-10 hours its impossible lier.Players need about 100 hours,the one who did it the fastest needed 30 hours,and he could only do it so fast because he played without sleeping for days.You are just bashing the game and talking bullshit!
I've visited several Sand planets and Snow planets already,and hundreds of other planet kinds.The game has endless possibilities...you can find Technologie,you can construct this and that,you can learn languages,you can be a space pirate and attack everything in space,you can be a trader,you can help factions,you can break into buildings,discover millions of creatures,and you can explore forever.There is tons of content

About 7 or 8 years ago, when I was about 8 or 9 years old, I saw a documentary about the possibilities of alien life. They theorized about how different planets with different conditions meant that the animals (and plants) would be shaped and act in certain ways. I remember being fascinated by the strange animated model creatures they made up when they showed possible life on fictional planet landscapes. There were jungle-y areas and deserts and such. The desert planet at the end of this trailer reminded me of that documentary so much. I am now so excited for this.
Looks like you can bring resources to the platform seen at 1:50, something opens under the ship and it unloads, then you get "units".

I know it's a pretty minor gripe, but I don't like the ground-to-ship animation. It'd be nice if it was just slightly more realistic- maybe show our characters hands and feet as he gets in, or something along those lines.

7 years later and the game has had a huge comeback it's beautiful seeing how far we've come with it's own history of each species, planet and even the Atlas itself
Just seeing the game back then I would've played it but here I am started on my birthday of 2020 and I have more bases then I can count, a settlement, a freighter and still learning about the universes origin

No Man's Sky is the game I have been waiting for.

Once this game releases, I simply cannot imagine myself to be content with any other title. I could never go back to invisible walls, to "map sizes", to any sort of Barrier of any kind.
Procedural generation of content on a massive dynamic scale like this is the future of gaming and this is by far the most impressive game in that regard. It is a fantastic technical achievement.
I wouldn't get my hopes up about actually enjoying the game as much as you say though. When asked about the fun factor or what the point of the game is or what will drive players the developers are like "Um... You can like explore and stuff". Minecraft at least had construction and survival as creative goals which were far superior to "these are the ship upgrades you can buy at release."
Games need more than vast and infinite worlds. The best game would also have fantastic and dynamic physics engines and mechanics, online VR perspective socialization and progression and customization of an avatar whose increased relative status becomes an addicting goal.
You just might get bored exploring No Man's Sky after just a few days... We'll see.

If it has good combat and alien hostile races, then will be great. If it´s just wilderness, it will get boring fast.
If you destroy wildlife, animals, plants etc an advanced alien species called the sentinels will hunt you down. Also there are pirates, aliens etc.
I know. Beyond that it would be interest to see big alien cities and countries on the planets, with their own police and army and stuff, get quests there, save their world from some villain. Imagine a 100 hrs plot in every planet with intelligent life. Or in every city, being it planetsized. I´m just brainstorming.

I'm gonna say that by what I've seen so far, and heard so far about this game, it's going to be amazing. No man's sky, Kingdom Hearts 3, Uncharted 4, FF15, going to be my favorites!
This game looks really cool but i think he coulda done a more Star Wars kinda thing with it. Yes, there are planets untouched by technology (mostly) like Hoth, Dagobah, Flucia, etc. But, there are also civilized planets such as Coruscant, Alderaan, and a more expanded version of Mos Eisley on Tatooine. These planets would not only be gathering places for other players online, but for verses arenas, shopping districts for ammo, upgrades and... music for your in game ipod, i don't know, something cool and extra. Maybe have a partners for hire area that allows people to play online coop with random people or with friends or have NPC's tag along but their not too great. I will say that this game looks absolutely phenomenal and I know you should never have too high of expectations but this game just looks great. These features are just a suggestion to any future developers and what I think would make this game great. People will say otherwise and i can kinda see why but i'm just saying that something like this would be a nice atmosphere to have in a game. Maybe have an apartment or house you have on a city planet where it has no significance but its nice to just go there and deck out yo crib dawg o just chill. Kinda like in GTA Online :^). But that's just my thought on it.

Why are people complaining that they are not unveiling much in these trailers? I love that! It makes me more excited for the game, because I have no idea how things are going to work out, and I am going to be able to create my own gameplay experience. The developers don't want to show everything about their game in trailers, and I think that is awesome! They are doing something different, and I think that's what upsets people. Why do you want to know everything about a game before you play it? The developers are creating a great feeling of wonder with these trailers, and that is what makes me want to play it even more. When was the last time you experienced wonder in a game and didn't already know how to do everything and where everything was? Exactly.
You just gotta love the art direction they took in this game. And the soundtrack!

This shouldnt be sold as a game by itself. It can provide as a basis for a good game with a story, character and soundtrack. Right now, this is too boring.
There is a goal. The goal is to get to the center of the universe. The devs stated in interviews and such and they said that it is really difficult to get to the center

Games we get bored of anyway are still the ones with story, gameplay and character. So what chance does exploring yellow looking planets stand? They should have at least made it beautiful. They really need to.

This old UI is something. Now it's gone and very very simplistic as it done in many MMO. Over years the quality is still not near as shown in trailers :(

The iPhone God I guess you haven't played No Man's Sky then. This makes the planets and space battles much livelier and vibrant. Everything looks so much more fun and interactive than the game actually is.
I can. Games of this scale use placeholders and white boxes instead of actual graphics. They animated what they wanted the game to be like, since they are only 11 people making a game that would be a challenge for Blizzard.

+Games57584 Probably because a fully developed game like this costs a couple million on average, whereas getting to our real moon cost $25.3 Billion. Our technology just isn't at a point where space travel can be accomplished successfully and cost-effectively, nor is our mindset as a people developed enough to truly grasp the need for it. I would say that there won't be the real push space travel needs until overpopulation or environmental travesty forces our leaders to find it viable as a solution.
Well those people can call me when they have a trans-galactical ship that can travel at light speeds. And after they discover strange extra terrestrial life among 18 quintillion planets in the REAL universe...
... by the time space travel will be invented it will be for a mass exodus of earth after we finally make it uninhabitable in about 20-40 years. I think I'd rather play it safe and enjoy a videogame while earth is still here.
The game still looks nothing like this. This is simple and atmospheric that gives off 80s sci-fi vibes. The game out now (and since launch) is a cluttered and confusing mess.

You can certainly find earth-like planets. I believe the game spore had an earth planet so the no man's sky developers might stick in a premade earth into the code.

Jack Gill I believe they said that the closer you get to the centre the more interesting and exotic the planets and their creatures get. So it might be possible to have a multi biome
+BlocQuillsta however if they ever add an Earth Planet to the game...it would be impossible to find that exact planet. ..since theres like 18 quintillion planets and theres very low or nonexistent chance to find Earth if they ever add it
If some of you can answer my questions I would highly appreciate it!
1. Can you build destroy like in MC? Gather resources, craft items and build/destroy?
2. Are there solar systems, galaxies, black holes, wormholes etc. Do planets actually have an orbit and move (night and day)?
3. How big is this universe? Have they done a real life scale work on this and the distanced between planets and solar systems, galaxiez (if there is).
4. How they put in real science? Like water is determined by the distance of a planet from a star and many more things like that?
1) destroy but i don't think build
2) they are supposed to be galaxy/solar system orientated ( but hid details until release) about extras
3) its never ending in the sense of planets i also believe distance is spaced out, since most of your traveling is going to be during warp you probably wont even notice
4) in one of their videos he explains some algorithms and one is distance from sun, which for example will determine if water will spawned

When he landed on that platform, I saw the spinning cube in the background and thought "Pick it up, Pick it up! NO, don't fly away!!". But I'm kinda glad they aren't spoiling those things. If they do, you won't be able to discover it yourself.
It's good not to know too much but I would like to know if there are missions and ground combat, we know there is at least air and space combat and a massive amount of exploration but exploration can only hold my interest for so long, even if there are over a billion planets to explore without more gameplay or story the game would feel stale too quickly.

Dark Crow I I agree but I have a feeling they are very aware that they have to be careful of that. But even if it's just exploration, look at Journey. That game is pretty much only exploration and a very small amount of interaction and that game was amazing.

Idk why ppl are still wanting the old art back.. tbh at this point the terrain can't compete with the current game, it's beyond better than what it was in any of their trailors. I think it's just the style of art people are still bummed about. Idk. Maybe it's just me who likes the newer style better.
