Honestly the new Spike is much easier because of how slower he is to react to stuff such as ammo right in front of him or the fact that he relies more on his gun that only shoots one shot at the beginning of the fight where in the original he shot two. Personally though I could be roasting this fella all day because of how he looks more like Spike’s dumb cousin than the original Spike.
I just thought I was 15 years older and I just literally knew not to let him get close to any form of power up. Worked on my second playthrough when I was 13 and it works today. He's a joke if you don't let him touch anything and run circles around him. I do think they could up him on purpose though.

I remember when I entered this arena. I was like 10 years old, the music started to play and I knew that I had already lost the battle. It was so tough and I could only win the battle if my best friend sat next to me supporting me hahaha.
I understand the desire to make this guy a little easier, but making him slower, giving him less shots and removing a third of his health is a bit TOO much.
I get that they want to market this game to a wider audience, hence why certain enemies have dumbed down. But then they went ahead and completely upset THAT rule, by then making Gulp much harder. For some reason, TFB decided switching Spike and Gulps difficulties was a good idea...
I believe the issue is that Spyro 3 originally had a somewhat hidden adaptive difficulty. It wasn't hugely noticeably most of the time, though a player would sometimes notice strange things like enemies being in more places than normal if they ended up on the "hard" of the three difficulties when they were used to "medium" or "easy". On Spike, however, the difference was very noticeable, because it affected how many shots he got in his first phase (which would increase by one each phase regardless of difficulty) and his run speed. In the original PS1 game, most players ended up on the "medium" or "hard" difficulties, where he gets two shots in his first phase (on hard he also gets an additional hit point in each phase). However, they seem to have chosen to base the Reignited fight on his "easy" iteration, where he only gets one shot in his first phase, and he chases Spyro less often and more slowly.
I quite like the metal guitar added at 0:45 - kind of gives the impression of Spike being a "nasty punk gangster" type of enemy, which goes well with how he wields a high-tech blaster :)
