Great job on the cab build. I've had a B7800 for 14 years and am considering a cab build to prepare for old age. Don't like the cold any more. Wife says I don't need it, we will be somewhere warm in the winter when we retire.
Hi Gord I used safety glass in the front windshield if it were to take a hit it will hold together just like a car windsheild dot.as1 the sides & back are dot. as2 I'm using rain-x on the glass just because i haven't picked out wiper motor's yet but plan on it front & back. The rain-x works great. The heater core gets it's heat from the engine it's plumbed into the water pump. The tarp I had wraped around it was for trying to keep the engine hot & reduce cold air flow thru the engine compartment. This year i made rubber inserts that fit the grill & side panels. I'm going to try it with out the tarp this year. It's actually very warm i can work comfortable with a light jacket if I wanted to.
Kevin Andrews thanks Kevin I was planning on wipers for it & I even have it prewired for it lol. I just can't find anything local. Probly going to order something off eBay. Another problem I found was I can't find a wiper motor with a long shaft to go thru the 3" tube. But I'm certain somethings available.
@@mbhunter2011 if you can build a cab like this.....you can figure out how to make any wiper work!!! Lol. Great build!!! I'm sure the glass wasn't real cheap was it? Building this now I'm sure the steel would definitely be the biggest expense beings it's more than doubled
@@derekmoen5382 I've now installed some wipers on it, I kept it basic & made them manual wipers. They work just fine. The glass at the time was more than the steel, but to build it today it would likely be considerably more.
As far as sound goes it loud & you can't get around that because you would need to split the control console between the cab & engine. That's how it's done with a factory cab. But vibration isn't an issue simply because I built it strong. The tubing was 3/16 thick, roof was 10ga & I used foam stripes between the roof & tubing as well as around all the doors & windows. I hope this helped.
Did you happen to see the blog, life along highway 9. He built a cab in a similar fashion to yours. between the 2 of you I think these are the best designs of homemade cabs I have seen. I will definitely draw from both of designs. Are you happy with the way the doors seal up, for sound and vibration?
I notice canvas/vinyl over the sides of the engine. Does this air somehow feed inside the cab? Does the rear heater core get coolant from the engine via hoses? It is certainly super strong. Would you put wipers on front and rear (and side) windows at a later date? Well thought out and very well done. A very heavy item too.Is that safety glass or Lexan?Gord.
im thinking about doing this same thing on my 71" zero turn mower... but, I'm wanting to add a A/C to it. i live in oklahoma and currently our heat index is 105-110 for the next 14 days. my question is do you know of an A/C that i could put on it that is about the same size as your heater?
Jim Boles Hi Jim. I ran the heater lines along the right bottom side of the engine frame & under the center off the tractor & came up along the hydraulic lines on the right side & out close to the hydraulic coupler connections at the rear.
Jim Boles I had ordered 2 fittings from John Deere that threaded into the water pump. I also had to grind the base of one fitting in order to thread it down to its base. if you go this route I suggest also using thread tape or sealant. unfortunately you have to order the fittings from Deere because it's not a standard pipe thread. The water pump has 2 threaded plugs you can remove to do this. Atleast mine does. I could provide you with a pic if you really need.
Ive seen alot of homemade cabs this is by far the best one...you did an amazing job with it....
Thanks Ben
And here's another one that needs to have kits ,& plans for , very well done, love it

Very nice! I'm quite impressed!

Pretty nice job. I guess air conditioning is next.
I don't remember seeing a blog when researching info but I look around on different tractor forums to get an idea on what I wanted out of a cab.
VERY nice. In some ways I like it better than the Curtis!
I didn't realize this is a 4 series? I'm not even sure Curtis offers a 4 series.
Awesome work and ideas.
You still could use wipers and washers for the windshield. Beautiful job by the way.

Nice I'm working on a cab myself

Gord Baker the canvas around the engine is to help keep the diesel engine warm.

Electric AC out of a prius. Ac compressor runs off of 12 volts, youd have to get a larger altenator or possibly dual battery set up but its doable
Where can i buy the cabinheater ?
I got mine at Princess Auto.
Where did you run heater line on to the engine

Did you tie into the lower rad hose and the plug in water pump

Thanks I will talk with my Deere dealer now
How much did the glass cost you?
Well that was most expensive part, if I can remember it was somewhere around $1400. At that time.
Where did u get the heater at?
Hi Joshua I purchased the heater from Princess auto.
Check with a local auto wrecker.
