I have been there. I was embroiled in this lonely dark mind set as a result from PTSD from four tours in Iraq, one of which ended my career and almost killed me. For years I felt I was living in the movie Jacob’s Ladder. Almost at the end of my rope I sought care through the VA. There I underwent Prolonged Exposure therapy for almost three months. During that time I was forced to face my fears and shadows. I realized one day my suffering was just a thought. It didn’t exist. It was just a memory. I embraced it and my life began to change. One of the things I was forced to face was the memory of a young marine who I shared hospital space with who was maimed beyond belief. I experienced an intense state of suffering by putting myself in his place mentally which was the cause of my solipsistic thinking as the pain was so intense it cut me off from any feelings of empathy. When I identified that as the root of my problem my ascent from the underworld was complete. My love and empathy came flooding back. I saw the monadic nature of things and I felt the connection with the rest of humanity return in a flood. Not just humanity, but the universe itself. I saw the illusory nature of everything and instead of being frightened the universe filled me with an unshakeable bliss that continues now over two months later. All I could do was laugh and laugh for almost two days when it first happened. Your videos have been very helpful to me in helping me understand what happened to me, just showing up in my TH-cam feed. Thanks, and apologies for this wall of text.

thank you for this, Angelo. i’ve figured out today that i’ve been subconsciously holding the belief that what i might find beyond the “final frontier” is something like solipsism rather than unity/nonduality. many times throughout my life i’ve felt the kind of loneliness that convinces you you’re going completely insane and i experienced depersonalization episodes a few times, and they’re quite terrifying to say the least.
i can let that go now … 😊

A thought occurs from a very long time ago, when a friend of mine was studying something - logic, or philosophy, I can't remember the details. He was excited pondering a dualism contrasting either/or logic with both/and logic. I just said, yes, but it's not either either/or or both/and, it's BOTH either/or and both/and. You've got to "cut" it in the right place or it's not smooth and you'll end up struggling and blunting the "knife"...

I had that strong solipsistic experience about a week ago, the strongest one I've ever had. It's an experience I've had on and off a few times in my life. It felt very real, the most real thing I ever experienced, but something about it felt like it was incomplete and that I was about half the way there. I stopped meditating and inquiring after that as it felt a bit uncomfortable, but I am getting back into it again.

Solipsism, by definition, is not the assumption that "I am the only one and there are no others". If we look up the essence of its meaning, it is the irrefutable fact that we have no means to prove to ourselves that others exist.
It may seem a subtle and eventually confusing difference, but in other words, solipsism is just the fact that subjectivity cannot be abandoned before objectivity can be checked, hence we cannot ever have any certainty of the real existence of anything other than our own consciousness. By the way, this question was precisely what led Descartes to his famous conclusion "cogito ergo sum". He started by questioning - "what certainty can I have, after all?"
As an example, you can have someone in a video questioning solipsism, and the person in the video can actually exist. But no one can be sure about that. It might be your own mind tricking you into believing that something other than yourself exists. It might be not, too, of course. But the point is - no one can ever make a test to check it, because the test would have to use tools and devices that are part of the very realm that's under test. It's like being in a dream and trying to use the elements of the very dream to prove it's not a dream. All the elements of a dream can somehow deceive the dreamer.
Does that mean this is all a dream and you are the only one here? Not necessarily! It means we have no means to test whether it is so or not. Be it in this reality or in any other...
    We. Will. NEVER. Know!!!
    Relax and enjoy then.

@@schwingstelle8974 any objective data cannot be known except through subjective perception. In other words, nothing can be objective without being subjective at the same time. No one can prove anything objectively without being subjective in the process of testing and knowing. The only undeniable fact is that I exist. Everything else existing is merely an assumption and cannot be proved or put to the test by myself. Any experiment I could design to test it would have to use the tools of the very realm I’m putting to the test.
There’s no way out, no solution to this problem. Either I accept it as it is or I’ll just burn neurons in vain.

Solipsism seems to be the most logical assumption (a lie nonetheless) that an ego can make given the only truth it has (I am). Kinda hard to see that others also ARE when the only thing you know for sure is that you ARE...even though others seem to be there...

    • @RogerioLupoArteCientifica
      @RogerioLupoArteCientifica 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

solipsism is neither a "lie" nor an assumption, it's just the obvious fact that you expressed above in that phrase - "the only thing you know for sure is that you are".
Solipsism is not a belief or a conjecture, it is that irrefutable sentence you said, but summed up in one word.
Thus, affirming that solipsism is the belief that "there is nothing else but my mind" is a mistake. The textbook description of solipsism has nothing to do with that, and as I said, what it actually means is summed up by that undeniable sentence.
In that sense, the only thing you know FOR SURE is that you are, and you see that others apparently ARE too, but this is something you cannot know for SURE. Hence, this is what is actually a belief and an assumption - the existence of others.
Does that mean others don't exist? NO! It means only that you don't know, and can not be sure, and you won't ever be sure. So you have to assume and believe it, and live by that belief.

God likes to play hide-and-seek, but because there is nothing outside of God, he has no one but himself to play with! But he gets over this difficulty by pretending that he is not himself. This is his way of hiding from himself. He pretends that he is you and I and all the people in the world, all the animals, plants, all the rocks, and all the stars. -Alan Watts
A solipsistic belief is a complete inversion of this perspective, and those folding on to solipsism find themselves in a hall of mirrors.

Is thought and the senses really different? Honest question. I don't know whether it's me being caught up in thought to a degree that I don't recognize it, but often it's like they are "just here" like the senses might be in their stead. But it's more frequent than the pure senses, and when there's sensation it's also difficult to know if it's them in a pure sense, or subtle pre-verbal interpretations of them in thought.

I’m not sure you’ve convinced me. My realization of oneness effectively is solipsism in 2 perspectives. First literally oneness is one. Second my own realization is more of a universe like a movie from my perspective. Like a 5d movie something else is experiencing. Either way both of my realizations point to a mentalism/idealism world. In truth I believe others exist and have consciousness but there’s still a possibility that everything I see is just part of my experience and me, my mind. I can’t prove anyone else has consciousness. I can’t even prove my own. What I’m saying is I don’t think it’s dualistic to say solipsism could be true. There is me, my mind and what it experiences. There is just the experience. There is nothing else.

Yes, you can't prove others' consciousness, but as far your own -- you don't need to prove what is immediately accessible and self-evident. The mere fact that there is a knowing that knows your thoughts/feelings/perceptions etc (regardless of their content) is proof itself. But as far as others go, then yeah, you have to take it on faith that there are other thoughts/feelings/perceptions. Ironically, what also needs to be taken on faith is this mysterious "realization" and the coveted way of life of those "realized beings" (free from suffering etc).

It’s solipsism in either way anyways.
The same awareness that’s actually aware of being is in all things that can be aware or in just consciousness itself, so still self just looking at self.
Or, it’s solipsism in an ultra level sense, (think one being always) that can never know different. Because even if it changes what it’s aware of/it became aware of all minds at once, it can never actually experience a separate self. It can never know any different.

This is the main fear that I have been struggling with, and it was exacerbated with my tendency to practice lucid dreaming, which often blurred the lines of reality. I've been avoiding the realization process because it would make me feel like "This experience is all that is being experienced," with that experience feeling like dreams, and since dreams are a mind-constructed reality, it in turn makes that reality have a felt experience of solipsism. I feared that if I kept practicing it would only become more apparent of an infallible separation of other consciousness. I can't knock on the door to see if anyone is in there between those eyes, I can only hope there is. It is nice to hear it talked about, as it feels less solipsistic that way. Thank you. 😊

I think what Angelo is trying to say without being explicit (because that's the role he's playing, at least most of the time, though there are some deep videos of his) is that he's not *really* making any videos. I'm not messing with you, according to my understanding this the actual message. But if you accept this, then everything goes, including the world and other people. In which case, the difference with solipsism is essentially splitting hairs. Which is ironically something Angelo doesn't like as "it's all concepts", yet he just made a video arguing that one concept (awakening) is not the same as another concept (solipsism). Absurd as fuck, but that's what this shitshow called "life" is. If you're wondering why I'm writing this message, the "reason" that comes to mind is that I'm still not 100% sure of anything. I'm not being Tony Parsons/Jim Newman etc, I'm just saying what such a character would respond.

I understand now that awakening is the fully embodied realization that there is no self, no doer, no thing at all, just a dream always occurring right now with characters that believe they are real and living in a place, and existing through time, with a beginning and an end, a past and a future, and the dream constantly reinforces this belief with thoughts and thought objects and other mind-bodies participating in the delusion. I feel like I know this, but I also know that is just a thought and there is still a "me" to refer to. So an awakening hasn't happened.

Angelo, I'm sorry, but I think your definition of solipsism at the start of this video is not correct. Rather than being sure that one's mind is the only one in existence, solipsism is the lack of conviction that other minds exist. Do you see? The first proposition is a belief: "No other minds exist!" (which you described correctly as dualistic). The second proposition is: "I don't know if other minds exist!" Isn´t not knowing the esence here? Thanks for your thoughts, or anyone else's, on this.

Actually there is a subtle assumption that something else could be.
See if you agree with this: “there is nothing that doesn’t exist” There isn’t an exception and can’t be. If you say “unicorns” I say they simply aren’t.
So, how could something else be possible? What is the possibility made of? Look closely. Pause and do it.
Is the assumption that other people could have existed made of the same “stuff” as the above “unicorn?”. What is that “stuff”.
Other people that “could have existed” simply aren’t. Full stop. Exactly like unicorns.
The “stuff” they are made of DOES EXIST. But, it isn’t a unicorn and it isn’t “other people”.
What is it? Because there is surely something that DOES exist. It’s not a unicorn. It isn’t others. What is it?
Nobody can answer that question for you. You really have to be open and look.
It won’t answer your question, it will un-ask it.

Solipsism is the ego mind's desperate attempt to make sense of Oneness. It's the ultimate height of egoic delusion.
But as William Blake famously said: "The fool who persists in his folly will become wise". So if you're stuck in solipsistic delusion, there are two ways to get out of it:
    1. Recognize that it is nonsense and drop it.
    2. Fully lean into it and see where it takes you.
