I had the same issue! I solved the problem by renaming my project. Apparently Direct Link gets confused by certain characters. I only named it ARCH_VIS and suddenly direct link works as expected..
Version 2023.1 ... I tried but I was also having problems and decided to install Revit 2025 . Still my projecy didnt work on twinmotion. And then I downloades NVIDIA (after installing and updating the drivers I was able to open my revit project in twinmotion)

I downloaded revit 2025 and twinmotion 2024.1, but in revit if I go to view and click open in twinmotion nothing happens, like all the other commands related to twinmotion. also from the twinmotion site it says that for versions higher than revit 2024 you do not need to download the datasmith exporter. do you have any suggestions for me? Thanks!

Why did you download the plugin when it says Datasmith is built into Revit 2025 and there is no need to download?
So that you can sync your model live with twinmotion

Go to import and from direct link you will see you’re revit project
You need to open twinmotion first then from import you will see direct link then you can open it
