Great great video and it was awesome to see Geof too!! For many kids making comics in the '70s, it was all about Kirby, Adams, and Perez (and I love those guys too.) But my holy trinity was Moebius, Drulliet, and Corben!!
My exposure to den came from reruns of heavy metal on tnt 100% weird segment in the middle of the night. Ever since I saw it I was a huge Richard Corben fan. Eventually I would scour the internet and see his earliest work and have my respect mushroom cloud. RIP Richard Corben.
My copy of Murky World showed up yesterday and I’m greatly impressed with the production. Eager to watch this discussion on the next volume. Thanks, gents.
This collection is long overdue! Always good to see Geoff!👍 My first look at Den /Richard Corben was in 1977 in Heavy Metal ! Arzach cover! Corben and Moebius!❤️🙏💎Keep reading and making comix! Hell yeah!👍😎👋
Great video, and a nostalgic throwback...I remember browsing through Heavy Metal years and years ago and seeing snippets of the one. Now I'm in Portland, OR right down the street from Dark Horse headquarters in Milwaukie, so I'll have to pick this book up. Thanks! Also, I did a search and don't think I saw you guys cover Grendel: War Child yet. That was how I fell in love with Simon Bisley, and that was a great 10-issue arc. P.S. I'm finally diving in and reading the first Red Room collection today! You guys rock!
Did you know Rafael Navarro? I discovered his own creator own series, Sonambulo and i was blown up. Its like the perfect mix between Jose Muñoz and Beto Hernandez. A hidden gem that need more recognition.
My first exposure to Corben's work was "The Oval Portrait" back in an issue of Creepy. Blew my eight year old mind . Anyway, as far as I can tell, this Richard Corben series of books doesn't seem to have a name. I assume it's the Richard Corben Library similar to the Don Rosa Library or the Carl Barks Library.
There is a beautiful hardcover reprint of Mutant World/Son of Mutant World (which was originally self published in B&W) done in 2019 and you can still pick up copies from a few places.
Does anyone happen to know if the vol. II of the Den collection will include the Den stories published in Penthouse Comix? I have all but one of the issues and I cant find it for sale. Pretty sure it's the only Corben I'm missing now.
Corben’s work on Hellboy was my first conscious exposure to his work, but once I went back and realized how deep his work was I became a fan for life. I’m a huge fan of Den and his work on TMNT is fantastic!
Name of the Robert E. Howard book is called "Bloodstar." Originally published in black and white and later in color in Heavy Metal issues No. 45-52. The Den saga Dark Horse release dates are as follows - Vol.1 Den Neverwhere released 8/30/23, Vol. 2 Muvovum 12/12/23, Vol. 3 Children of fire 4/4/24, Vol. 4 Dreams and Alurum 6/4/24 there is no release date for Elements yet??? Murky World released on 6/6/23. I have all the soft cover trades on all The Den saga, except the Denz series which was only released through Penthouse Comix No. 15-20, 1996-1997. I have been A huge Richard Corben Fan since the early 80 during the beginning of Heavy Metal magazine era. One of the best Masters ever to do it. R.I.P.
I'm getting everything they print , all Den volumes, Den Saga too (got Mutant World and Son of Mutant World already)and all else but my eyes are on Bloodstar ...
I just purchased this book today! Just stumbled across it. A pleasant surpise!

Corben was a truly unique Master artist. Blending styles of underground cartooning with fantasy art and psychedelia, who can compare?

Hey Dwayne!
I love that one panel where it doesn’t look like Den’s emerging from a cave, it looks like he’s being born out of a giant woman’s ass.
Great video! Always good to hear from Geof Darrow. And I know that if I don’t get that Den book now, I know I’m going to regret it

Uncle Geof is the man!
Also, I'm ready to jump on True Crime Funnies when it drops again
