The only game I've seen with support for simultaneous mouse and controller input is BeamNG. And I use it.
Mouse and controller is technically superior both to mouse and keyboard and to controller alone in several types of games. In the context of a first person game, mouse is far better than a stick for camera, but WASD provides less movement precision than a stick.

Please consider whether keeping all of Steam Input tightly coupled with the Steam Client is the best thing to do.
If developers could target more than just Steam using the Steam Input API, or a core subset of it, I'm sure they'd be much more willing to use it as the basis for their input.
Ideally it should even be possible to target consoles with it, somehow.

@@danieleproia Because making it so that developers only have to use one input API would allow them to focus on it and get the implementation *right.*

Tying "Steam Input" to Steam is anti-consumer and monopolistic. It discourages people from buying the game on other storefronts, as the input support won't be as good, and that discourages developers from releasing their games on other storefronts. Valve must decouple this technology and release it as a standalone library not depending on Steam.
Too bad this will never happen.

If y'all would just not tie the API to just steam, you'd probably get more adoption.

If only you would put good documentation about how to implement it instead of only "Oh! steam input is awesome it allows you to do this bunch of stuff!!!" but not a single example of how to properly implement it.

Release SIAPI as FOSS. Otherwise it will have limited industry adoption.

Y'all really had a good innovative idea for a controller and discarded it for the " steam deck" I'm not buying that shit.

they should sell the half life franchise to another game studio who will develop for another sequel and steam will distribute it digitally. campo santo? why not?

I think a lot of the reason there is no HL3, they fear it wont live up to the hype and expectations that the fans are having.
If it doesn't, that would ruin them greatly.
