Was there for opening night so just to give a different perspective of the show overall. I’ve been to many a gig over the years but this was the first pop concert I’ve been to. Wouldn’t say I was a die hard Madonna fan but seeing as this was billed as a greatest hits tour me and my girlfriend decided to try for a ticket. Wouldn’t fault the technical aspects of the show everything is impressive from the dancers to the lights and the fact that Madonna at 65 is still on stage I gotta tip my hat she really is one of the last remaining true legends. However overall this was not the show I was expecting. I was expecting a live band Madonna to be interacting with the crowd and for the crowd themselves to be up dancing. Now around my section (B block) most people were just sat down for most of the show. I saw blur earlier this year and was up in the gods but everyone was up and singing along. The audience for this show seemed to be women of a certain age that were dressed as classic 80s Madonna so I would be interested to know what they felt afterwards as there’s a lot of omissions and a few obscure tracks. Of course over a 40 year career there’s always going to be songs left off and yeah the technical issues did stop the momentum. Part of me felt like the show was gonna be cancelled at that point. Burning up sounded awful why play that and not one of the her big hits from that era. I was expecting more of the lines of Elton John at Glastonbury were it was just hit after hit. But this show has way to many interludes (I wonder how long Madonna was on stage for) the MJ stuff I’m not sure about. Here in the UK we’ve just had a Jimmy Savile drama on TV so that segment felt….well I won’t go there, plus again she’s not on stage for this part. And the ending I was confused again I’ve been to rock gigs were the band play an encore they bow to the audience and thank the audience. But there’s nothing like that, she just goes down the stage and the lights come on. Overall totally underwhelming the atmosphere and vibe of the crowd felt weird but hey I can say I saw a legend live
I agree on feeling sad. It had a somber vibe to it from clips I saw. It's also hard to watch her not in her usual prime state where she dances and sings. Her body is worn down and can't do what it used to. No shade, that's life but we remember her other shows so this one is missing this massive element. She walks, stands, poses mostly, lots of arm dancing cause she's had lower body injuries and surgery. It's a nice retrospective for sure, stunning staging with the video screens and lighting. But it's missing the usual band, singers which gave her shows a different vibe.
Amazing. I also a die-hard fan but quite cooled down after the RH era. But ignating again. I did not buy any tickets yet but I have a feeling that i have to rebound and succum to my olf-fan self and grab a couple just for the experience. And hopefully participate in your live interviews... if you let me.
I haven't seen this tour live yet, only the TH-cam videos and I am happy to see how well she recovered and how much her children love and support her. At the same time it's kind of a sad feeling to notice she chose to celebrate her career in music without a live band and relying a lot on playback for the vocals. There are some undeniable beautiful moments, like the opening with Nothing really matters and the moving rendition of Bad Girl with Mercy. The rest feels like something is missing.
It bothered me. Look with Madonna’s age I can forgive some lip syncing but if your paying X amount of money and there’s no live music it all feels to rehearsed. Having attended the opening night the lack of any live music at the gig created a weird vibe for me personally and the crowed largely stayed seated for most of the gig. So I basically payed to to see Madonna lip sync to a backing track. Sure the visuals are impressive but I feel a live band would’ve gotta people up and dancing. it's hard to even call this a gig as it's more of a theatrical performance
I think the one thing die hard fans need to come to terms with is that Madonna DOES NOT LIKE TO REVISIT THE PAST. She is the kind of artist who wants to keep pushing forward into her current work. This may not be a popular opinion, but it's my perception that SHE DID NOT want to do this tour. As much a visual spectacle as this tour is, it feels like it lacks her thorough passion for each minute detail and transition. I think this tour was produced simply because she is facing the mortality of her age, and she probably would not want to leave this world without giving her fans something in return. Remember, there is no album to support this tour. Unlike Madame X where she really thought that one out and had a passion for it. This one is a spectacle. But with the hurried opening and abrupt ending, it seems to lack her touch deliberately. This one is for the fans. Not for her. And I could be totally wrong, but I believe she realizes this and is just going through the motions.
She didn't have to do anything she didn't want to do. She sitting all most $billion so it's not like she needs the money. I think she has had to come to terms with she's no longer relevant at this point so has to rely on her huge catalogue. Smart business move to rack up even more money while she can. Any of her latter music pretty much sucked in most cases. I think she's struggled to accept things just move on. She's hardly unique in that.
She was working on a Biopic so I don’t think that’s true and maybe she wants some control over how her story is told. I agree that she has never been particularly nostalgic and has always wanted to look forward. I get it. I don’t want to see her doing tours of Jazz standards and stuff artists do when they are out of things to say. However she always interpreted old songs in new ways. I think Jamie King has always done things I don’t necessarily love. And she’s done stuff like I love New York and songs I don’t think speak of her artistry. But she’s always been cheeky and wants to enjoy herself. I haven’t seen her since confessions and have not bough an album or listened to one after MDNA and I am a die hard Madonna fan otherwise. I’m comfortable with her doing some things I don’t care for. I would have skipped this tour had my sister not pushed me and I am glad she did.
I think you said this perfectly. She is at a point that even if she lives to 100, she is at an age where every workout in the world will not stop the body slowing down. Nobody can do at 65, what they did at 41, 30 or 27. Even Tina Turner said she never wanted people to say “she can’t do it like she used to and that is why she chose to end her touring at around age 70. I don’t know if Madonna will ever tell us when her last tour will be. This one could be it, as far as we know. One thing people need to keep in mind is that she will not be doing this at 80.
@@taintedlife2618 LOL I don't think we will ever have to worry about Madonna touring to do jazz standards. Or even LV. Way too much money for that. Her biggest risk will be getting over attention seeking need and settle into her later years gracefully. AMAZING run on longevity, but it always comes to end and you have to come up with a new plan and mind set to be happy. She has nothing to prove at this point, but it will be up to her to accept that.
@@jartober They will tweek the show as it goes along (as always) this was the first one. The bigger question is she will be able to keep up with all the tour dates.
I never liked Ray of Light much either. But give me any other song off that album. I probably put that song above Candy Perfume Girl and Little Star. And the rest of the album is above those three for me.
She could have gone past the curfew and paid the fine but she chose not to and when people pay huge prices for tickets then you expect to see a whole show.
Technical problems? If Madonna was a singer, she'd come on stage with a guitar and fill the gaps during those technical difficulties. See, she can't for everything is pre-recorded. This is not a singer's concert, this is the show of a technical team. No camera, no singing. She's not at the venue to sing for the audience. She's at the venue to film a pre-recorder visual show. Nothing to do with music, music is secondary. A camera not working? Show can't be shown. How sad for a singer (when she dares to sing live on Rain, it is flooded with pre-recorded backing vocals and on Ray of Light, the off-key incursions are appaling). Visuals, visuals, visuals. Cohesive with a drag show: all face, nothing profound. She talked about Israel & Palestine? What a stunner! How surprising. Praise her she's on tour though she had health problems? You'll rethink that when your aunt has cancer but has to got to work during treatment. People are caught up in fandom and nostalgia. Sycophantic self-mistreating. Let's give you a bland rendition of 'I Will Survive', that'll trigger you. And I don't understand the MJ or Prince reference, the MJ one being a whole track... Celebrating Madonna is hearing MJ sing (well, he's dead, like Madonna, so that goes well together) ? Strange. A mashup night (18 years after the mashup peak), everything is beats-enhanced (boombastic dance music one-off singers-type beats), time-honoured tricks, a slideshow probably sponsored by Microsoft. The twins have grown up? Having your kids on stage is nothing artistic. Don't forget to buy the DVD, that's why you bought tickets! 😄 Nostalgia implores you to not think. Madame Ex, a worn show.
I am so freakin grateful that she is alive and well’ and thank you for doing this chat! Insightful.. (Madonnaness)
I loved this interview, thank you so much for doing all this for us! We're so excited about all the tour updates!
Looking at videos of night 2 Madonna seem more happy and energetic hopefully she remains that way going forward.

I thank my younger self for doing something for me no one else on the planet could...survive!
I cant believe she played bedtime story i kinda wished she had Bjork sing part of the chorus in the box

Get rid of the XXX sleaze of the erotica/JML bit. Get rid of the ballroom vogue stuff. Get rid of Bob. Sing rescue me, dress you up, lucky star.
The most basic bitch comment 😅
Aren’t the rehearsals for working these things out? Tickets are very expensive to miss huge chunks of the show
I agree, but these technical difficuties are not predictable
It wasn't her fault as he said...it was technical difficulties

The single i was never a fan of really either. Just didn't do it for me, even as a huge Madonna fan at the time.
Never liked ROL? 🤦🏼♂️🤦🏼♂️🤦🏼♂️

I don’t like celebration as the last song… it’s not a big hit really
