Bro where have you BEEN the last 10 years of my life? ? This is the stuff NOBODY teaches well and Bam! you explain it perfectly. Now solos make WAAAAAY more sense. Thank you man. Thank you.
Sensei, I just found your channel. I'm a fellow musical nerd and teacher. You have a gift for explaining complex musical ideas with ease, humor, intelligence, and humility. I just wanted to stop in and say thanks. Thanks!
I don't play music, I only listening. STILL these sensei series videos are amazing! I really enjoy learning about these techniques that make my favorite songs what they are :D
Samurai, your quickly becoming my favourite "youtube" musician. Most are show no tell, you, on the other hand, provides huge value. thanks for this man.
Instant thumbs up and a sub when someone plays Phrygian dominant haha! I think it's good and maybe even crucial in many cases to know a bit of theory to be a good musician... But your perspective of musicality is so damn on point. Your videos really were an eye opener, they explained what makes a great musician and what separates the men from the boys. Keep doing what you're doing!
Will definitely try and use techniques 4-6 in my next jam. Played with a drummer for about an hour today and realised my pentatonic and natural minor scale playing restricts my sounds to be super blusey. Love all the jazz ideas. Thanks dude!
Dear Samurai you're content is GREAT, thank you for that, this is just a suggestion: I was born and raised in S America, so Spanish is my native language and I learned music in my country, so once again this is only a suggestion but on the 5:08 mark you point out that notes are: Do Re Mi Fa Sol La Ti Do, but it is actually: Do Re Mi Fa Sol La Si Do, because B is Si, so well there is that piece of information, I don't know if it is easy to repair or not but I felt it was handy info, my regards and keep rocking bro
This is a really good video. Definitely going to try out these ideas. These licks and chord melodies can be applied to any key or musical genre once understood and practiced. Time to cook up some jazz-country metal jams.
Some soundcheck tips please, for smaller and larger venues, acoustic setup... How to get the natural acoustic guitar sound amplified properly with a nice bass and pleasant mids ? What should be the volume levels for guitars, vocals and drums, and how should these be panned on the monitors?
If your solos have fallen into the routine, and you can't seem to take an interest in it anymore. There are a few ways you can do to spice things up: 1- you can get sexy glam collant clothes 2- you can roleplay your solos as if you were a fireman or a police officer that had to play a solo during his work, 3- or you can try different toys, like special picks, Ebows, or even a real life violin bow. I've once heard of a guy on Anthony Kiedis Biography that would even use some kind of lube so that hos fingers would slide better. 4- You can try different ways of plucking the strings, like with your mouth 5- You can invite more instruments to the party, like those guitar players that take turns in playing with 4 necks guitars, and play at times 12 string, bass, etc.
#4 is just what I was looking for, thank you very much looks like I'm going to learn more than just e, a shape barre chords, and 9th chords, I thought I was good XD
After i learn and perfect these....im gonna be killing it at my local guitar center! 😎😂 but for real these are really cool cant wait to try some of them. 😁👍
Well i just found you at the internet.. You're Amazing! i learnt so much from you in such a short time! While i lookt at those chords you played as an example.. Could you suggest me a place i can find more info of them? (When you get stuck in my english you must know i'm dutch😅
well hi samurai. i've watched this video and i think this concerns mainly on the single or serveral licks. but sometimes i got such a problem that i feel the whole part solo of mine ist in lack of something structural and sounds quite disordered like a Chaos. i'm wondering how to make or should i have a structural design while i begin to play the first note of my solo or even before that or maybe after that. cause i can't now play quite a lot and good licks but doesn't sound pretty good integral... thx for checking it out!!!
Hey samurai guitarist, great stuff man! My theory is slightly above average and I get what you're saying but can you elaborate on those E dom 7th chords? They aren't just different voicing's of the dame chord are they.....?
Zack Fraser yes there are 12, but the last one is just an octave of the root note of the scale, so it's kinda like the same thing (the frequency of the note is just doubled). 11 or 12, both are acceptable
Actually no, the 13th note is the octave. On a guitar this is a little confusing because you think of an octave as the 12th fret, but you need to keep in mind that you're counting from 0.
I might be wrong but I am pretty sure that you mispelled the latin notation. You wrote "DO RE MI FA SO LA TI" although it's "DO RE MI FA SOL LA SI". ^^ BTW I love the videos you're making. Keep on ! ;)
hi! i've ddescovered your series of videos just recently and i love them, you are pretty serious and you know how to explain yourself prefectly. but I have to make a constructive critic. those mistakes, when you miss the number "6" and instead you say "5", man you should record tat part again. I really think that make another like 7 seconds shot sayin the right word would seem a little bit more professional, in terms of editing and video cuality. I put ths comment almost everywhere in youtube because no one seems to care about it and it just teems like they are not worried enough. anyways, great content in your channel, cheers! (sorry if i wrote something wrong, english is not my native language)
Not necessarily, as long as you are playing notes within the key of the song. If you dont know a whole lot of theory, staying in a particular key without running through a scale can be difficult though.
I think that that is pretty bad advice. If you are still really new to soloing, I would recommend relying on your ear first and foremost and then start intellectualizing it later. If you are always thinking of starting and ending on the root you are developing bad habits early on.
+Nathan Poignonnec Everything you do will sound different. It's up to you to associate different practices with their sounds, and choose from them as you wish. I won't say hitting the root is necessarily bad, but it will be a borderline corny/square/uninteresting sound. But something that's what you want. So like I said, it's really up to you to know your stuff so you can knowledgeably pick your poisons.
@Tony Dinh Considering he's teaching, not just playing for your enjoyment, it matters. Everyone makes mistakes, but pretending it doesn't make a difference is just flat wrong.
Whoever introduced solfege to an english audience thought it would be better if all the different notes started with different letter. Changing Si to Ti. That's why in English speaking countries you will never hear anyone call it SI
Bro where have you BEEN the last 10 years of my life? ? This is the stuff NOBODY teaches well and Bam! you explain it perfectly. Now solos make WAAAAAY more sense. Thank you man. Thank you.
I've been here! Waiting for you. Thanks man
Great tips and really nice and clear musical demonstrations!

I don't play music, I only listening. STILL these sensei series videos are amazing! I really enjoy learning about these techniques that make my favorite songs what they are :D
So I should exclusively play metal sweeping licks over smooth jazz? Fuck yeah. \m/
Yes, we can!
Samurai, your quickly becoming my favourite "youtube" musician. Most are show no tell, you, on the other hand, provides huge value. thanks for this man.
One of THE best lessons of it's type I've ever seen on TH-cam. Great job.
This is the most helpful video on TH-cam on this topic🔥
Great tips again thanks. and I Love the 'outro'; ‘’The best musicians are always the most tasteful ones” (and thus appreciated, hired etc)
I love how you use examples to explain concepts; it turns a lecture into an experience, thank you
Great videos. Very natural flow, everything's well explained, the fret board animations are extremely useful etc. Kudos!
Dude, great channel. I've been playing (and practicing) for about 13 years now, and this is great, great info
Instant thumbs up and a sub when someone plays Phrygian dominant haha!

Awesome seeing you show off your chops finally!
This is fantastic! Just came here from Reddit, and I think you're channel is just what I need to freshen up my playing. Thankyou!

It's so nice seeing videos with more advanced lessons
Some soundcheck tips please, for smaller and larger venues, acoustic setup... How to get the natural acoustic guitar sound amplified properly with a nice bass and pleasant mids ? What should be the volume levels for guitars, vocals and drums, and how should these be panned on the monitors?
This video series is really great and I have gotten alot out of it already! Can't wait for more!
Great video!!! Thank you for taking the time make it. Also, your beard is epic!
What a sick vid - clean, informative, to-the-point. You deserve more subs, mate. Keep it up!
Great tips ! Keep on coming with those videos ! And as I see that you're very accurate with your informations, G is Sol and B is Si ! :)
I've seen a similar comment a number of times. In English speaking countries the 7th note in the major scale is Ti.
amazing beard, amazing playing, and a SICK Japan jersey with the number 9 lol I have to sub 😅
Yes excellent vid, excellent lesson. You got me watching more and more of your clips.
I'm digging your tips to help me to compose some tunes. Great videos, really helpful and well done. Cheers!
Accidentally clicked on your video but I really enjoyed it. I've learned some things. Great stuff!

Your videos are just so amazing man
So cool.
I really admire and enjoy your videos man.
Much love from Texas amigo!
If you make a video about licks in different genres it would be very helpfull in my opinion.keep rockin' love from Turkey :)
Super cool video! These are really good tips!
number 4 sounds great! i'm getting into that
Can we expect a gear tour anytime in the future Sensei?
I'm a bit boring when it comes to gear, not much of a gear nerd, but I don't see why not
I'm sure us gear nerds would love to see what you're rocking with. Keep up the great work!
the day has come
samuraiguitarist hi...Can you make a vídeo on how to Start and end a Guitar solo....oh also r you using compression on guitar.

another great video as always!
#4 is just what I was looking for, thank you very much looks like I'm going to learn more than just e, a shape barre chords, and 9th chords, I thought I was good XD
That's really cool, I don't even want to imagine how much time would it take to master all these steps
Gorgeous tone
Awesome! Nicely done.
IM ABSORING THIS LIKE A SPONGE OMFG THANK YOU!
One time I used a rockabilly lick in a green onions solo, and I'm still proud of it
Dudeeee! 7:04 That was really good! Did you get that from somewhere? Or can you recommend songs around that tune?
A video on increasing speed, and just the more technical aspects of guitar, would be greatly appreciated.
thanks for your videos they have help me alot!!!
great lesson and sweet guitar. Love your tone!
Hey Samurai! I'm new to your channel and I'm loving it! Learning so much! Thank you and keep it up!
thanks for your videos man.
That Japanese kit is cool as fuck, good tips by the way!
Thanks dude, I purchased it Japan too!
Very helpful stuff
After i learn and perfect these....im gonna be killing it at my local guitar center! 😎😂 but for real these are really cool cant wait to try some of them. 😁👍
Subscribed :D awesome channel! Nice job

When you said 11 notes, i bout had an anuerysm. 😂
Well i just found you at the internet.. You're Amazing! i learnt so much from you in such a short time!
While i lookt at those chords you played as an example.. Could you suggest me a place i can find more info of them?
(When you get stuck in my english you must know i'm dutch😅
Goddamn that Japan jersey is pure fire
great lesson, arigato!
That japan jersey is dope

Kool...thanks! 😎

good video bro
Dope
i don't want to be rude or anything but i usually don't "feel" what you are playing.
this video is different, i liked everything you did!
Hey samurai guitarist, great stuff man! My theory is slightly above average and I get what you're saying but can you elaborate on those E dom 7th chords? They aren't just different voicing's of the dame chord are they.....?
Aren't there 12 chromatic notes,or am I just this stupid?
There are 12 chromatic notes.
R de R yes i learned there was 13 lol not 12
@@ArchiePMusic No, there are 12. The 13th is the octave. The guitar fretting confuses you, so think about piano keys.
What does Second Position mean? Is that different than the second mode? Because it looks like a different shape
4:59 i got blueballs from you not playing the octave
What's that little amp head in the background?
How to play guitar randomly like you ? Samuraiguitarist ?
Me: Silently watching Video
Me: reaches 2:38 into Video....
"Hm" *likes video*
I might be wrong but I am pretty sure that you mispelled the latin notation. You wrote "DO RE MI FA SO LA TI" although it's "DO RE MI FA SOL LA SI". ^^ BTW I love the videos you're making. Keep on ! ;)
my solos are now spicy
That chromatic lick was an enclosure ?
Dat tone
Doesn't Carlos Santana use implied notes?
hi! i've ddescovered your series of videos just recently and i love them, you are pretty serious and you know how to explain yourself prefectly. but I have to make a constructive critic. those mistakes, when you miss the number "6" and instead you say "5", man you should record tat part again. anyways, great content in your channel, cheers!
(sorry if i wrote something wrong, english is not my native language)
so we don't need to end on the root note but we still have to start on it to stay in the key right?
Not necessarily, as long as you are playing notes within the key of the song. If you dont know a whole lot of theory, staying in a particular key without running through a scale can be difficult though.
Or you can start on the 3rd or 5th note.
Ah oké I've been taught best to start on the root and end on it, maybe cause I just started they told me to start from somewhere.
I think that that is pretty bad advice. If you are still really new to soloing, I would recommend relying on your ear first and foremost and then start intellectualizing it later. If you are always thinking of starting and ending on the root you are developing bad habits early on.

Is the jazz lick, The Lick?
Also, "through the licking glass". That's what I heard :D
Let's chunk it out!
only 11 different notes available?
Man did I struggle with counting on this video
I'm learning to end in the root.................
4:50 Twelve. Twelve notes, not eleven.
Ya I struggled real hard with counting in this video haha
@Tony Dinh Considering he's teaching, not just playing for your enjoyment, it matters. Everyone makes mistakes, but pretending it doesn't make a difference is just flat wrong.
Why is stairway to heaven banned in guitar stores?
Do your guitar skills help you with the ladies? ;P
Sorry but aren't there 12 different Notes?
For the metalheads here, Mastodon does a lot of Cross-string scales
Can You Give Me Link Of BackingTrack For Begginers
Chord!
Great vid but there are 12 chromatic notes, not 11.
Yaaaaaa, counting is apparently not my strong suit, especially in this video.
Thankfully, you've nailed everything else!!
Beard
man, it is DO RE MI FA SOL LA SI, not DO RE MI FA SOL LA TI
Not for english speaking countries my friend
this is confusing now
Whoever introduced solfege to an english audience thought it would be better if all the different notes started with different letter. Changing Si to Ti. That's why in English speaking countries you will never hear anyone call it SI
Hey wait youre not mexican
