Bobby! The coinstar machine takes 12.5% of your coin money plus a .50 transaction fee! The bank gives you the rolls so you can roll em and they verify by weight. But showing up with loose change is crazy!
You actually just said exactly my bone on what Bobby was saying about the machines. Yeah 12.5% off the top and a scale is simple to the point to check its exact. I did this in restaurants for years. When I managed places I would check counts of change with a scale and when we had a few customer who would bring in rolled coins. Scale and done. I never had short drawers from change wright's vs counting.
Even if the bank is that worried about it. Take an ID which wholly overkill. I guarantee she didn't want to have to log all the change and document the rolls at the end of her shift. I would pick up change for our restaurants and later in the day towards close I had tellers ask me did I need a few more rolls of whatever. It was less paperwork for them to give 500 in change then carrying to the safe and document it.
But 100% loose change is insane. Only time I wouldn't have a problem was when it was kids paying for fries or a slices. Adults, fuck out of here with that paying with $20 in mixed change. We had a few customers over the years who pulled that bullshit on delivery drivers. $15-20 in loose change and .75 tip. We told them after the second time no more, paper or cards. That was insane a driver carrying 20 bucks in change to his car. Plus needing to have it counted at the door
@phl_knives interesting. im genuinely curious as to the business reasoning behind this, what sounds like, unwritten policy. i can see additional time at the door to count it but it cant be much more than an extra 60 secs. vs a 20 singles order, no? you would already have to count the change at the end of the night anyway, so i can see a minimal increase in time but only because there's more change than what you started with, which is a good thing, right? shitty tippers are shitty tippers and they exist in all forms of payment. not to mention i think whatever time you "save" from counting change, you would lose when arguing/dealing with the upset customer, which decreases the chance of return business. seems like you lose more than you gain at the end of the year, no?

@@user-yk4jr9fp6e So policy was most of what I've learned and done nearly 25 years in the industry. I finally left due to unforeseen injuries.
Now for $20 in 1s vs unrolled loose change quarters are 4x as long per dollar, 10x for dimes, you get my point. Not to mention you have people holding food or now having $20-30 in their pockets. While yes this may be another 60 seconds, time is money. I can be friendly, courteous and fast. Even cash order I can be to a door and back to my vehicle in 90 seconds. Add 60-90 seconds to that time. It adds up and adds up quickly when you have 5 orders in your vehicle.
Yes change would be counted at the end of the night but I can tell you if a driver gets shorted, that's on the driver for nit counting the money. Thats every stores policy because you can say you were shorted and just pocket cash. That's money they lose and that sucks when you get shorted by some hustle.
One thing I don't think you've considered is if someone is standing outside with change and a driver is distracted with counting change and passing off food is they're now doing more than grabbing cash or a card signature and heading out. This is a great opportunity for a person to rob the driver. Nearly every place I've worked or managed that delivered would have 1 or 2 drivers a year robbed a year. As high a 5 I've heard from other companies. I have worked at a place where in 6 months, 2 driver's ended up hospitalized from the beat down. I know of a driver shot and killed near me as well. Only 2 places I've worked this hasn't happened was places were a handful of staff was armed working the front house and driving. Concealed but word gets around "not the place to rob". In fact one pizza shop I was helping a buddy out at had 4 staff all armed legally and drivers. We had 4 businesses surrounding us robbed at gun point and never once did we get his when we would have $8-10k on a Friday/Saturday.Big score but high risk for a robber coming in. If you have any doubts just Google delivery driver or Uber Eats driver robbed, carjacked or other phrases like that. Stick-up kids are really a problem in most cities prior to 2020. Now I don't know of a driver who doesn't carry. Any short order or other business has armed staff. Even corporate places that "forbid carry" the drivers still carry. They would rather lose their job than their life. This is even in corporate stores and retailers. In my area and my city 80% of people are carrying. From 70 year old grandmother's to 20 something guys. All legal and all would rather lose a job than get executed over a robbery.
But counting change outside a house you don't know is the person's house is a good way to turn around to a pistol in your face. Using "bait houses" that are rentals not being used or a house sold but no one moved in yet is common. If I ran food to a new address or it had a realtors sign in the yard my attention was much higher to people around and dark areas near the house. Most stick ups use a distraction. We dropped change payments for this reason and time. Really we lost 2 customers at most who were paying change which they weren't even lost customers. They started paying card. We obviously weight the cost/benefits to saying no to something as a business.
While we would weigh coins at the end of the night and even bills at times to double check counts. Change is a pain in the ass for someone who makes their money on tips. 90 seconds extra does add up. Not to mention every other risk I mentioned.
I do agree you have shitty tippers and great tippers no matter the payment method or work they do. I had contractors and business owners who would tip 30% all day and doctor's or nurses, or lawyer who tipped 5% if that. It does even out for drivers when they get a great tip, average tip and no tip. I had a driver say to me once that he wasn't taking an order to someone who never tipped and I responded then you aren't taking the dude who tips you 10 on a $15 order either. This is part of the job and it is annoying but we all have done it.
I get your points, I'm looking at these decisions from a safety, security and time metric when I say no we should or shouldn't do something. This is even the case for certain apartment complexes because you had so many robberies most places wouldn't allow delivery after 7pm. In 1 month a few years ago every delivery driver who entered a complex near me was robbed from multiple stores. When my buddy was robbed when I was getting out of my car to walk with him 5 guys came from the shadows and pistol whipped him, causing him to fall and shatter his elbow. I had to scare off the group because they didn't see me and get him in the car to the hospital. 4 surgeries to reassemble his elbow. When we had to talk to detectives they said this was robbery 27 from that complex they have taken a report on in 3 months. Adding additional time and risk to those area's wasn't something I would ever want my staff to go into. Risk vs reward was too high
I agree with Bobby about the buffet thing. I work as a cook and I do my best to not waste food. I will keep what I can to use and make into something else the next day or take some home for later to try and save money from eating out and shit.
I think the excess is the point. It's American. Or what some people think being American is.

Hey Paul and Bobby; great podcast is always. I feel like I need to point out that those Coinstar machines that take all the coins and give you a payout, they take a cut you don’t get 100% of what you put in the machine. Now for a successful entertainer like Bobby,that’s an insignificant detail. But for most working guys who don’t make a lot of money, they don’t want to lose that percentage of payout because the machine is doing it. It’s worth the time and the small investment to roll the coins and get the full value.
Good thing that Virzi talked about his wife with Bobby instead of Bill, there isn't a spiritual awakening with Burr when they talk about their wives on Paul's other, less successful podcast 😆

Bravo to the guy who took the time to roll up his coins. Those machines are for lazy people and will rip you off. If you didn’t count the coins you can’t trust what the machine is giving you. I worked in a bank. When customers brought in rolled coins they would have to put their account number on each roll, simple. The bank teller just has to verify he has an account at the bank.

Did the bank guy try to deposit the coins through the drive-thru? Kinda seemed like he did since the lady said he really should be doing it during lobby hours. If so, he’s in the wrong for sure. Every bank drive-thru I’ve ever been to has a “no rolled coins” sign up. I imagine they screw up the tube system and probably take friggin’ forever if you can only do a few rolls at a time. If he went inside to a teller window, different story and I’m on his side. Fire that broad.
And Coinstar can GTF with their mob policies, taking a cut. Some banks have machines you can use for free…guessing they don’t want tellers time being taken up with a guy who brings in a bucket of rolled coins. If banks don’t want tellers processing rolled coins, they should all have free to use machines.

Love it but my bone is comedians assimilating to PC culture. Cuss words are a foundation for funny, they just are. You’re missing a huge chunk by removing or censoring this.
