In their first five years of existence, they put themselves on par with the greatest bands of metal’s golden age. Other reviewers have described them as alien superheroes disguised as young women, angels, princesses of metal, and angry bridesmaids. They recently went on a year-and-a half hiatus while they searched for a new bassist. They announced the new bassist in October 2022 (see below) and dropped their first new song on December 22. Their new album, “Judgement Day”, was released two months later. Some background: They were formed in 2016 from the remnants of a legendary all-girl Japanese metal band called Destrose (yes, all-girl metal has been a thing in Japan since at least 1981). Miho (bass, chief headbanger and founder of the band) had a vision of a new band in the style of the great European bands of the golden age of metal. She recruited her former bandmate Haruna (drums, 4'9" “pocket nuclear reactor”); they needed two world-class guitarists, and so they went and found Midori and Miyako, who were with other groups. The four of them then found Asami, the singer, who was doing soul and blues at the time (she was also trained in ballet). Welcome to the Wolfpack! Great reaction! The look on your face during the solos said it all, but Midori and Miyako are probably the greatest guitar duo in the world right now, and personally, I think Lovebites as a whole is the best metal band in the world right now as well. The talent level on that stage is unreal. When they go all-in with thrash metal like this, they cannot be beat, but that's not the only style of metal they do. They have some amazing power metal, progressive and other styles. Miyako is an accomplished classical pianist, and probably better at that than she is on guitar (if you could believe it), and they have a few masterpieces that work in piano, too. I recommend you check out some more if you liked this. Judgment Day (the live version they just posted on their official channel from a show in March) would be a good one. Frozen Serenade if you want to see some of that piano work. Anything really. It's all amazing.
They were not born yet when I was stationed in japan tried to get some cats together to jam but nobody played anything but me bought some new bass guitars but got some turntables and hit the clubs!
