If it is available in your area, opt for Redmi 9T over Poco M3 instead. It's basically the same phone, but the 9T is slightly better due to the fact that the top spec gives you 6GB RAM + 128GB storage and an extra camera for about the same price (RM700 in Malaysia) as the M3's 4GB + 128GB variant.

You have many many similar phones in asia the downside with many of them is that they degrade quickly. the performance get so bad within a few months its pretty much unusable and many fails by the internal storage failing and you will notice it by things getting corrupted in your gallery.
You do however have alot of well known brand (vivo, samsung, oppo) that sell phones a with a lil higher price (around 170-250) which got dualsim, headphone jack and fast chargers. they simply dont release those versions in first world countries.
And when they state the MP of the camera reality is that the censor is not getting bigger all it does is making a grainier picture what they usually do is slap a filter on which smoothens everything out and with higher end phones they use AI to try to remove the grain as much as possible "processing"

What specs are those? Here are some few important things: ( *Hopefully few people read this as most people will not know what I'm talking except for tech nerds* )
I will use my phone specs as the main support, I will add some other specs just for more clarity:
What type of chipset will be good in the long run?
Score that is close or more to 300,000 antutu benchmark.
What type of camera sensor would be good and how much MP is too much MP?
Recommended minimum MP are 8mp for wide
Recommended moderate MP are 12mp for wide
      Recommended minimum for main: 12, 32, 48, 64
Recommended moderate for main: 12 and 64
Recommended for cheap zoom MP: ...
      Recommended for moderate zoom MP: 3x, 10x, 12mp, 16mp
Those are three sets of camera, Main, ultrawide and telephoto lenses. The rest are useless 😂
The selfie cams are the ff:
      Dual punch hole: 16 8mp, 32 8mp, 12 12mp,
      16 12mp, 32 12mp
      Single punch hole: 12mp, 16mp, 32mp
      Storage and ram?
      Minimum of 6/128
      Moderate of 8/128 or 256
      Maximum of 12/512 😂😂😂
( Trust me, people do buy the maximum with uhm bad chipset ( exynos ahem 800 someth- ) heat )
What type of display tech and quality?
1080 is the best, since it's been that way ever since.
As for display tech, that depends on preferences.
If you don't care about specs but A+ grade quality , then go for *AMOLED*
If you don't care about amoled for it sacrifices specs and if it dosen't it cost double ,then go for *LCD* or other types of LCD
Other stuff are: fingerprint scanner on the power button or screen ( id recommend power button since finger on screen can be a little hard with oily hands people )
      3.5mm Headphone jack
Dual speakers or bottom firing speakers
      Haptic feedback
Those microphone stuff to hear your voice
Bands on phone... That's flagship phone
Good OS ( personal preferences )
Advance tech screen that eliminates oil
      Matte back or glass back
      Big screen
      Thinner bezels or thin
      Gorrila glass 3 5 6 or sandwich
Dual punch hole or single or dewdrop

There are some amazing budget Android phones about, and I say that as an iPhone 11 Pro owner, and iPhone user since the iPhone 3G. In the UK a Poco M3 is about £140. In order to test some apps I'm developing, I recently bought a new Nokia 7.2 for £150 with specs in the same sort of ballpark: Snapdragon 660, 4GB RAM. Honestly I'm blown away by the hardware and build quality (matte glass back like my iPhone). If I dropped my iPhone down the stairs tomorrow I could easily use this as my daily driver until I got it replaced. It's pretty responsive and is an Android One device which means no crapware, and an upgrade from Android 10 to 11 is imminient.

If you want something in the same price range as the M3 with a better (and less ugly looking) camera and phone body - The Redmi Note 8 is also pretty amazing. Slightly worse battery and cpu performance though. Another tip - It's pretty easy to install custom OS's on pretty much all of these MIUI phones and most of 'em even run on Android 11. You can also push the display refresh rate from 60 to eg. 75Hz if you feel like it. Great stuff. o/

I can confirm that I did buy the POCO M3. and unfortunately had to return it. It appears that NA carriers are stopping the support for the 3G frequency's and that's what is on the POCO

Take a look at the UMIDIGI A5/A7/A9 Pro series of phones. Similar price point, stock Android, OK camera. I ended up with an A5 Pro (then an A9 pro after 2 years of dropping my phone without a case) because they had a very wide range of frequency compatibility on the Canadian spectrum.

My Moto G stylus actually has the same specs as the Poco, save for the battery (mine is 4000mah), and I got it for 178 as part of an upgrade deal. Is actually an extremely responsive phone at least for me, and it's great for what I need it for. It's got Android 10, and really is unbeatable for the price I paid for it. Or at least it was as I got it over a year ago

I was looking for a cheap Android phone a few months ago, but I also wanted a more compact one, iPhone SE size. They simply don't seem to exist; they are all huge with relatively low res screens. So I ended up just buying an iPhone SE, my first ever Apple product. Makers of cheap Android phones: make a $150 iPhone SE sized phone, there's a huge potential market there!
Great to see Xiaomi bring back that bright colored grippy plastic from Nokia's Lumias for the backside though. I never understood why that fell out of fashion in favour of slippy metal or glass that doesn't feel as good in your hand.
