Basically, telling him that the only way a retired boxer could be as good as Ippo is if he's too afraid to get back into the ring. I also think that Rosario is going to get desperate soon. Mashiba is already wearing him down due to his great defense, and even Rosarios' coach doesn't realize that Mashiba was able to spar with someone who can fight Southpaw on a world scale.
i just hope this fight doesn't end up like hearns vs hagler with the long arm guy literally blasting the most powerful attack he has to get tanked,then proceeds to get a beating.

The title of the chapters is a call back too, during the sparring it was called a "white hot sparring" when Mashiba began to utilize the title fight strategy, and the first round of the fight was called a "white hot 1st round"
Post retirement Ippo is going to be one of the most skilled fighters in the series. We saw glimpses of Ippo's ability to execute a technical strategy against Karasawa, which to me was his most impressive performance *as a professional* (yes, I know his spars with Mashiba and Volg were awesome). Kamogawa said that Ippo's talent for problem solving was one of his greatest strengths. Seeing him develop that further- acting as a second, assisting with training, sparring with elite fighters, testing theories, scouting talent, studying tape and watching fights live- is going to make him a much better fighter. I see people complaining about how long the retirement arc has been, but we don't get a fully realised, peak Ippo without it.
There's also a theory Rosario might actually be a switch hitter and not a natural southpaw. Ippo will obviously be better than both Rosario and Mashiba to even match Ricardo if Ippo does eventually fight Ricardo

Ippo may feel stronger because, like you mentioned, rosario was dehydrated before the fight.
