Huge influence for me, as a sincere kind and sharing personality Billy still inspires me at 65, I'm still learning and using his advice in so many aspects in playing approach and attitude to life, Thankyou.
I was there watching and listening live when Mr. Sheehan was in the band Talas.....saw the original line up and the later line up.....this was in the 80's in western NY.....such a great talent....
Saw DLR the 28th of August 1988 in Bochum Germany during the monsters of rock tour. 3 friends and I drove from Denmark to the Ruhrstadion in the middle of Germany. I was just 16, and it was still one of the biggest things I've ever experienced. I still have the 3 first solo albums from DLR 😊
Billy is a rare breed, if not the only of his kind - immensely talented, extremely humble, grateful, and intelligent. His move from California gave no doubt on the latter.
Great interview with a legend. He seems pretty happy -go-lucky. Superb bassist who took the bass to another level. Capable of soloing with Steve Vai.....whew!!
Love watching Billy play, so entertaining and such an amazing talent. I got to meet him once back in the 90's at a local music store. Very sweet and gracious.
I was 15 and saw the Roth band at the Toledo Sports Arena. Sound was so loud you could barely tell the song sometimes. But that band put on such a show I still remember parts of it to this day. Cinderella opened !
I Love Love Love Billy Sheehan. Maybe the best rock bass player of all time. I saw him play in Hollywood at The Key Club with Niacin. ( Dennis Chambers, and John Novello ) They were a complete blast, all in all , some of the very best music I've ever seen and heard.
I remember seeing Mr Big in a fairly big rock club in Vegas on their first tour. I managed to get to the front of the stage, center. I nearly had whiplash that night from turning my head so fast and so often trying to watch Billy to the left and Paul to the right! It was only when they got together on stage that I could truly soak in the spectacle of watching them play together! Amazing!
WAY back in the day, I saw Talas at the Gasworks perform in front of approximately 20 people. Billy was KILLING it. I’m so glad he was able to break through into a solid career. An amazing player!
I saw him with Talas WAY back in the day. I think it was early 80's (83-84)? It was in West Cornes NY, a really small bar on route 26 called "The Pine Inn".
Without David Lee Roth? Van Halen became Van Hagar. Look I love Sammy, but imagining Van Halen without David Lee? would be like imagining Zep without Robert Plant on lead, or the WHO without Roger Daltry. It just doesn't appear to be normal
his comment "you can be 80, and start a band and have a hit"... makes me look forward to his 80-y-o self topping the charts again... off the cuff comment... or plan?
He seems waaay overqualified for to be playing for the Nickelback of late 80's, early 90's rock. Mr. Big was just so safe and generic. But good on them for carrying on for so long.
Why on earth don't you ask him why he stole another band's name? Or are you completely unaware that there was already a band called Mr Big? They had a huge hit with a song called "Romeo" in 1977. They were a great band and they had their name stolen by Sheehan and co, and it has caused them a huge nightmare. I despise Sheehan and co for doing that. Why do they never get confronted about it in interviews? It's pathetic. They need to be confronted about it. Please find out who the original Mr Big are (I have videos for two of their best songs on my channel), and confront Sheehan about why he stole their name.
Billy's band were named after the song by Free. They did later discover that there had been a UK band with the same name, but they were no longer active and it seems likely that they would have taken legal advice on using the name. The frustration of the UK band is entirely understandable, but the US band did not 'stea'l the name.
They broke up in 1978 and didn't do anything until after the US Mr Big had already gotten huge. Dicken doesn't seem to care at all anymore (or at least as of the 2016 interview I just read). So, what nightmare did it cause them, hmm?
I hate to say this. I saw David Lee Roth - 1986-87? - something like that. O.K. I'm just going to be honest. That concert sucked. "Oh man - I forgot my words man". (David Lee Roth) Billy Sheehan. You are a really cool person. I'm sorry. But I just don't get it. Tapping and flapping and crapping. You're better than that.
Very sad that DLR has become a punchline ! Amazes me that there’s even a Hagar /Roth debate !one is a true singer with 50+ years of top tier relevant music ! The other is a frontman , with maybe 14yrs of relevance , becomes more of a tool evertime he opens his mouth & thiught it Woukd be a good idea to do a country version of Jump ! Cringe
I don't know the man, but Billy annoys me for some reason. Some people are just too good. I don't envy them, I just find it annoying. Show offs. Like Yngwie. Paul Gilbert is awesome though.
@@AndrewGrey22 a show off, yes. Because he’s an entertainer. Why wouldn’t he use his ability as part of his act? He’s good to his fans and appears to be very humble in his interviews.
He plays A LOT of notes, sure- but that's what his fans expect. Some of his stuff isn't for everybody- the tracks where he is doing through composed stuff are awesome. He built his career diy style, and has endured the ups and downs of the business for over 50 years. He's also a really nice guy to anyone he meets- and a killer diy tech.
Such a great down-to-earth and humble guy. Billie Sheehan is amazing. A real role model for me.
Billy is a ROCKSTAR without the baggage. He is a regular guy who play the bass in a way that makes he a rockstar, a teacher and an inspiration.

Good one. Thanks. The always humble Billy Sheehan.

Hey Billy, hope you're well bro. Great to see this interview. Keep Rockin' Billy! 🤘🥁🤘DC
probably the nicest guy in rock and what a player addicted to that rush and daddy brother lover with the drills is epic
Underneath the glam and glittery is just a regular guy. Luv it!
Talas wasn't a progressive rock band.

"Eat 'em _Up_ And Smile"! 🤣
Mr. Big. The bestest of pap rockers. Pap on!
Eat em and Smile was awesome.
Billy is still a down to earth Buffalo guy. He never forgot who he was. Good guy and of course, one of the bass greats.
He and Billy Sheehan arguing ?? Both guys seem so mellow ??
BTW, that's Nick D'Virgilio on the drums, one of the best players in the business currently 👍
What is the play out music. Excellent!!

Never was a fan of Mr. Big. Actually, I thought it was beneath Gilbert. was used to his shredding with RacerX. That band is awesome.

Eric Martin was supposed to audition for VH before Sammy!
....... Chaos AND Genius. David Lee Roth - side by side with Fred Mercury - were the two best frontmen in Rock History!!!

Grow up.
Shit I think I'm starting to feel some pneumonia coming on.
Take Cover is their best song.
What can you say he's the standard of Rock bass along with others of course but nobody really plays like him.
DLR couldn’t handle being in EVH’s shadow, this probably made him hard to deal with in his own band.
Why did they name there album after pearl jams first album?
If it wasn't for the poodle hair and pouty look, I might consider checking his work out. This is coming from a fellow Western NYer.
Roth was an idiot by Skyscraper, using synth bass with Sheehan in the band ???
Did Mr Big break up cuz he and Paul G. hated each other?
He seems waaay overqualified for to be playing for the Nickelback of late 80's, early 90's rock. Mr. Big was just so safe and generic. But good on them for carrying on for so long.
Their latest album is far from incredible and even farther from being a band effort, as it was only Paul Gilbert and Eric Martin who wrote the album.
