Thanks for answering my questions this evening. I had 3. You diligently address a vast majority of what people bring up and that makes for an engaging and helpful live chat.
I have some sympathy for Dixon falling asleep. I started falling asleep at my desk at work in my mid-50's. Just one minute awake, the next asleep. Voluntarily went to sleep doctors, diagnosed with sleep apeana, got CPAP...didn't help. I was given modafinil which helped enormously. I managed to make it to retirement because my employers knew I could not help it. I still have sleep issues. Can't fall asleep at night and can't stop sleeping. It is hard to deal with.
Thank you for another expertly delivered Q & A, it’s a real privilege to have free access to such high quality educational expertise. I’ve graduated from the misguided Dr Campbell!
Misguided by....what exactly? The data, which he goes through, point by point? The interviews with physicians and RNs and others out in the field treating patients? The cautious optimism and general responsible health advice? I have no problem watching either of these channels. What's the problem? Be specific.

If restictive temperature of SARS COV2 decrease , theoreticaly IT replicate more at upper respiratory tract and decrease replication at pulmonary level. Alfa variant seem to replicate better at low tissue temperature (at TWiV Nr 659 at min29 Christian Drosten indicate that)
00:22:57 This makes me think of one group called the replication/transcription complex (RTC). This is supposedly conserved accross coronaviruses because it is responsible for thier replication. And if you had pre-exisiting T-Cells against these protiens, it confers "cross-reactivity" that may save you from infection from the getgo. It's from a study of 15% of 1st wave London HCW's who never tested PCR+ nor antibody+. Paper: Pre-existing polymerase-specific T cells expand in abortive seronegative SARS-CoV-2
@Vincent You must watch the animated movie Madagascar. It is about a bunch of animals in a New York Zoo that try to escape and go to Madagascar. The Penguins are a wonderful side-plot. However, the main characters are a bunch of misfits in a large institution in NY and how they interact, its like TWiV, the movie.
To the question at 41:00 asking what science convinced vincent of the booster benefit. I believe he is talking about TWiV 839: The long and the short of it: get vaccinated. Thirty minutes discussion begins. Paper is: Strong humoral immune responses against SARS-CoV-2 Spike after BNT162b2 mRNA vaccination with a 16-week interval between doses
I’m 75 and want to make it to 150 if not beyond. Unfortunately for some really stupid reasons I waited until junior year of college to take a required science course, when I took biology and did extremely well. I should have started as a freshman and since I didn’t, I should have changed majors and even stayed an extra year in college in order to switch my major to biology. 😢
I texted for an organization to ask people if they have questions on the booster or vaccine. Yes cold calling style text but feel good one person wanted to know and sent text explaining. Too bad we're not the UK connecting patients routinely. Thank goodness you guys are there and maybe all of us watching can do some small thing.
@Vincent Care is required when using data from ZA. The original reports were from two centres, one in private clinic in a prosperous area where most people were vaccinated and a second centre in a much less prosperous community where most were unvaccinated. However I agree that the local conditions around the world differ significantly and that situations in one region cannot be directly carried over into other countries. In ZA the most significant difference is the median age of the population.
John Campbell was observing that the symptoms of Omicron appear to be so mild (but unproven) the we should consider when we get exposed to this variant (because everyone will be exposed) and whether this variant could offer protection against future variants? It was a rhetorical question. He still advocates that everyone who is eligible should be fully vaccinated and get whatever boosters are available.

Office mate of mine died 2 weeks ago from Covid...I caught it too but I am vaxed and boosted...felt bad for 5 days....and I did not get a fever..but my body temp went down to 94 F. Anyone ever heard of an infection lowering body temp.? I have read that virus can mess with your autonomic system. Any info would be appreciated.
I have heard of some types of sepsis lowering body temp. Please look it up and verify for yourself. Interesting and troubling that COVID has so many different reactions in different people.
Do we need a variant specific booster? In my opinion YES; why? SARS-CoV-2 enters the cell via two pathways. 1) The virus binds with ACE2, TMPRSS2 cleaves the spike protein and the virus enters the cell by fusion. 2) The virus binds (with less affinity?) with ACE2 and enters the cell by forming an endosome, which by changing the pH, the contents of the virion are released into the interior of the cell. Current vaccines target epitopes on the spike protein that block pathway 1. Omicron escapes the vaccines by favoring pathway 2. We need a vaccine that is effective in blocking pathway 2, to provide better protection from further variants that emerge from this lineage.

Not only do they object to vaccines on the basis of personal freedom but they have bought into disinformation that COVID vaccines are lethally harmful.
