Aileen, you are my favorite contact staff artist! Watching you fills me with the awe of watching a diving hawk, and the peace of gently rustling leaves, soaked in the morning light.
just opening up to dancing while I contact, really found that space while at a festival this week....makes it so much more engaging for me...and connected...nice stuff.
Awesome !! I Just started contactstaff. Tried to coppy one of your moves. (Sort of) .. Now I know what you mean by using a light weight staff.. I hit my face.. not pleasant. Haha.. Your flow looks beautifull !!
Honestly you are amazing. I first saw this video after I nailed some bike tubes to a wooden dowel and made my first contact staff 4 months ago. At the time this video was simply inspiration for how beautiful contact staff can be if I stuck with it. As I've gotten better I've re-watched it, studied it, and stolen some of you're moves including those wonderful vertical shoulder wrap -> neck wrap combinations. And now I've come full circle and watch it again just to see how beautiful contact staff can be when executed with style. I saw you at lightning at a bottle spinning near the thunder stage and just ran away because I couldn't believe it was you. You rock.
Watching Aileen inspires me to try this. I'm newly interested in flow arts and staff looks like it may be the easiest for me to pick up since I was in color guard in high school marching band.
I do Northern Shaolin Wushu, and Staff is my favorite weapon of choice so far. I also happen to o a lot of hooping. But, my friend was like YO YOU SHOULD TRY THIS and I kinda wanna. However, the staffs I'm used to are the bamboo ones, which are thinner at the front and thicker in the back. I'm 5"2' and my staff is probably like 5"7'. If I wanted to give this a shot, should I start out with a longer one since I'm used to having longer ones for martial arts? The heavier the better for me, ,I think.
Beautiful. I also find the lighter staffs much more liberating. I'm going to purchase one of these and was just wondering how the tubing width contributes and which you would recommend?
Awesome Dance!! Didn't know you could fishtail with elbows :) Thanks for sharing!! I'm using a stainless steel hollow tube for my staff and I know what you mean about hitting yourself. Lol
I’m blind and i am also a contact staff artist just an idea you could add audio discription to the video so it is accessible to visually impaired audiences xoxo love it anyways

I don't see how many people could watch this video and not want to try this out for themselves. So smooth and beautiful!
This is so mesmerizing! I made myself a contact staff a few days ago and I've just started learning. This is so inspirational. Thank you!
Very smooth style, I like it!

What is the song used here? Beautiful aileen. hoping to see you again at spinout.
Is there a smaller version of a contact staff that you would still do about the same stuff with?
Most impressive. I wonder if I could do this with my jo staff.
excuse me, do you have any advice on building your own contact staff? or any commenters who might see this, info is appreciated

beautiful beautiful beautiful! what song is that btw?
"Yum" by the Human Experience : )
Beautiful. I also find the lighter staffs much more liberating. I'm going to purchase one of these and was just wondering how the tubing width contributes and which you would recommend?
+Catherine McG I prefer 5/8, and feel that the width of the staff contribute greatly to the ease of flow, for sure.
I'm having trouble changing from vertical to horizontal planes and vice versa, but this gave me some inspiration :))
Please tell me what the diameter at the base pipe and the approximate weight?)
+qwertyui 5/8 diameter! Not sure about the weight, it has changed quite a bit after a few years of burning it.
did you happen to start out in martial arts?
alot of the moves are very similar
Think my staff is an even 5' but I don't think the dimensions matter eh? You are definitely good and marking this one to watch for later.
Awesome Dance!! Didn't know you could fishtail with elbows :) Thanks for sharing!! I'm using a stainless steel hollow tube for my staff and I know what you mean about hitting yourself. Lol
what song is that?
This is AWESOME! Oh, Flow Arts!
Very amazing! Well done
i love your style.. such an airy flow! what diameter is this staff? and curious what diameter you started with ...
+Kimberly Bellinger 5/8 diameter, started 10 year ago with a thicker diameter and ended up preferring something thinner!
Aileen Lawlor ... and yet most women prefer more girth! 😂 sorry just had to... love your flow, you are amazing!
Beautiful!!
what kind of tubing is she using?!?
Julie Carr water based i think... oh tube!
Who's the music?
Never mind.. They rolled some credits. Way to go on that guys!
Beautiful video.
