I can’t remember ever hearing the high-pitched ringing sound of a CRT when I was a young kid in the early 2000s, but whenever I’m near one now (or watch a video of one) I notice the awful noise. I guess we were all just so used to it that we didn’t notice it back then.

I get that too but for me it only got worse with age, I have pretty severe tinnitus from too many plane rides when I was younger so maybe I am just the perfect sort of damaged hearing to pick up CRT whine frequency.

For some reason my right ear was always extremely sensitive to that, from TVs and anything else with a high voltage transformer. I thought it was something everyone had to deal with until I was in my late teens and finally found out that most people cant even hear it o.o Color me surprised.

Getting one of these TVs back to snuff is an absolute pain though. I have a 48 RCA Victor 9t240 that starts the bulbs (low voltage) plus electro gun glow but no picture or sound is emitted. Then I had a 58' RCA Victor cabinet TV (don't recall model) that I did get to fire up with the help of some spare vacuum tubes. Sadly the picture tube was so burned out that even on maximum brightness the picture hardly showed. My friend turned the 58 into a fancy fish tank but I still am keeping the 48. Hopefully someday I can get it running, would be cool to watch vintage media on period correct hardware.

Could you imagine this somehow this signal got sent back to 1959 and some family was in their living room and this commercial just came on. it would blow their minds. They would not understand what they were seeing they had no concept of computer graphics. There would be millions of terrified people trying to find this vault-tec company frantically trying to get into one of these vaults!

I like the TVs aesthetic, aesthetic in the sense how it looks on the outside not the actual content, I like how round it is. It's a nice change from all those super flat TVs, and it had the iconic box TV sound when turned on (if your a little older then you can't hear it). Jeez I sound like a boomer rn, welp cheers m8s and stay classy
