XMPP sucks. It's centralized so someone has to run a server, it's not censorship resistant, not anonymous, and vulnerable to man in the middle. And I don't know if it's simultaneous multi client (meaning that your phone and computer can be connected to your single presence simultaneously). Session is better.
I mean, I don't think a non-centralized solution to "social media requirements" exists. At some point, *someone* has to host *something* in order for people to find communities. Session is cool, but people aren't gonna switch from Twitter. iMessage and WhatsApp, sure, but again, it's important to understand use cases.
