Conversely, if I try to punish someone making mistakes e.g. getting caught out of position, I get shit on by enemy arty. The enemy arty was saving their ally as well, at the expense of my hit points and sanity. What arty protects you from are your own bloody mistakes, which is what majority of the player base hates. Because in a competitive game, you should get punished for mistakes and rewarded for correct plays. Arty does the opposite and is therefore harmful to the competitive spirit of this game, if any given how powercreeped the higher tiers have become.
Fran, I remember when I had my m44, I even have a replay saved where I dive off a cliff to get the final kill. Such a great arty, very fast and accurate battery
Well, having binoculars on arty is just normal to me too, it's especially useful in situations near the end of the game, when arty got to spot for herself, or if spotters suck, and I got to cover some bottleneck positions, say the approach on the flank with windmill on Fisherman's Bay map. And yes, there is something about using top view only, I've seen at least one other good arty player doing that (he's often the number one on Russian servers), he said battle sight view is only good for firing over ridges. I'm not that good, so I use that "trajectory view" mode quite often. And in this particular game, if I was on the red team, I would go with both arties together, but not side by side, so the first one would serve as a bait / spotter, while second (preferably M44) stays a bit behind and aims at possible adversary's positions, which they _sort of_ did, but didn't succeed. Also I would not call "Stark's medal" an unusual one, got several of them (looking up my profile), specifically - 11 of them, plus some Gore's medals, a couple of "Rock Solid" (for killing tanks by ramming them with SPG and surviving the battle), one "Cool-blooded" (for killing two LTs in close quarter combat on SPG) and one De Legland's medal (for killing at least four adversaries while they are capping). Funny thing is, I got those later two in the same match. XD So, I'd say Stark's medal is the easiest to get of all of those, judging by the numbers of medals I got. P.S. If that means anything, I have not drowned my SPGs even once... However, I've "suicided" one or two times by shooting point blank at the wall, when the "team", I happened to be in, really, really sucked.
I think its just when you started playing arty that probably most determines which view you are comfortable with. I've been using the stretch of the ellipses targeting ring to judge shot trajectory for so long that the Trajectory view is kind of more of a hassle than anything. I usually shoot and scoot, so if I'm in trajectory mode when I fire, and shift to normal view to reposition, then switch back to arty view, switch to top down view, get situated then have to switch to trajectory view again? Nah that's like a bunch of extra steps, which might kill me - and certainly slows down how quick I can be set up on the next target to fire on.
I use top view only normally. For me it feels like traject view is off. When i used it, i often shot far over the enemy without effect. Only on something like pilsen i use it to shot into the opposite heavy clash building. You can reach a few meters inside these houses, if you can manage the stupid cam, who tries to go to roof level.
I'm an arty player. This is what we live for. I've had maybe a dozen battles like this out of over 10k. A strategic mindset and the ability to anticipate enemy movement is absolutely vital to your success. Great replay. More arty please!
SPGs are not hated for drowning themselves, they're hated because people have a visceral dislike of taking fire from vehicles they cannot retaliate against. And the WoT player base is mostly comprised of wailing infants. The drowning is incidental, I've seen plenty of tanks drown themselves, it's got nothing to do with the class, except that perhaps the SPGs have more opportunity. I guarantee you most heavy players would suicide to deny the enemy a kill if the option was available.
Hey, I'd like to see arty tracers come back and be more accurate as well. I'd also like to see XVM pulled while we're here. WG still seems to be making money despite having arty in the game and XVM stats available at the start of the match.
@@1slotmech Agreed; XVM is probably the cause of 80% of the toxicity and suicides on WoT, because many players see a bad match-up pointwise and give up on playing well or co-operating with/trusting their team, then blame the team when their lack of teamwork drops the game.
@@Neion8 Great point on XVM, saw this in a couple of matches just yesterday. Sucked seeing one of them get a win, but enjoyed watching the other get picked apart. Let the record reflect that neither useless player was in an arty ;)
I have no qualms drowning in an arty at the end of a bad match. I'm so tired of players killing arty to get a medal that depriving someone of notching their barrel for a medal is worth playing in the water. I also take pleasure in going hunting in arty and face-shooting opponents who see arty as cowardly easy kills. As Lieutenant Ivanova has been known to say, "Boom! Boom, Boom! Boom Boom BOOM! Have a nice day!"
i usually play dont play arty. but when i "tried" the tier 6 french arty (cant remember name, amx 105 F3 or something like that) i REALLY enjoyed it. i didnt enjoy any other arties than that one. it is literarly perfect for me. -good accuracy -good damage -PERFECT mobility. since it is so mobile, iam able to pull off 1v1 and 1v2 fights (iam a below average player tho). aaaand sometimes i just play it like a shotgun, i rush in and hope for the best. i usually get called a retard for that but i dont play the game for wins. i play it for fun. believe me, try it out, you wont regret it. i got it through the amx 12 t.
That reminds me of the battle I had from back when Arty had no stun. Me: AMX 13 F 3, alone The Enemy : Platoon of 3 IS-3 Same Map. The last IS-3 won with only left 32 HP because of RNG.
Perhaps if all SPGs (especially high tier) were more similar to the M44 and Bert the Avenger, people would try to fight more often. If you're in an unarmoured box that's less manoeuvrable than a Maus and has a 40+ second reload, you don't stand much of a chance no matter how well you play. That still doesn't excuse drowning yourself, tho'.
Great job, pains. While I am nowhere near as good as you are, I also try to play like this, helping the team and never drowning myself, unless I underestimate the depth and width of the water, like trying to cross a river and not going fast enough.
You know, I’ve actually thought about something like this before: Arty is basically a kv2 with no armor or HP, but you’re more mobile. I haven’t tried it yet of course, and i don’t even think it’ll really work, but on paper it seems kind of possible
It'S how you play when the enemy pushes toward you. An arty with one shell loaded is still able to defend itself. Limited but possible. Even seen wheeled tanks learn that lesson.
No, no... a KV-2 *is* arty, just horizontal with better armor and HP, and aiming. And none of that stunning BS, just damage. And fear. Even T8 tanks will wait to see if a KV-2 has fired before driving around a corner. 😀
I don't even play WOT but someone linked me this when were talking about the greatest gaming clutches of all time. 10/10 did not disappoint. Hell of a game.
This looked like my battle as the tier 6 french arty on himmelsdorf. Literally the match turned into me driving around and drive by shooting with the gun.
After PaiNiZ kills all the tanks and TDs and it's down the 2 enemy arty and Quickbaby says "And personally what I think the enemy would do..." I immediately thought "Glug glug glug go for a dip." I was half expecting those two arty to crap themselves and go into a classic arty end-of-game response and drown themselves immediately. Man, this is an arty player I can respect.
The rules of artillery 1. Stop camping 2. Hellcats is artillery favorite food 3. Don't sit at the same fucking spot 4. Don't hide in the obvious bush 5. High and low tier Arties love to shoot Premium tanks for "Balancing reasons" 6. Don't get too close to your own ally tank
7. play more popular artys , to learn artys lines of fire in high-cover maps and few possible locations for every arty and how to avoid them shells. when you play arty enough start to lern from those difficult targets ,whoom manage to avoid shells in open maps just by moving in right timeing.
My buddy takes arty suicide even further. There are two maps, if he gets them with his arty, he immediately drives into the water and queues up in another tank.
I play mostly SPG and TD. Years ago i had a nice Grill (in times when KV1-S was a clan war ruler) that scored 9 kills on now delated map, Dragon Pass. I always play to the last shot. Actually I even got some medals for killing last enemy tank with last bullet. 😋
If someone had TKed that arty player, the game would have been fun for all the other people in that game. As it was they were trying to have a fun tank battle and instead they got smashed from across the map by an enemy they couldn't counter.
2:15 that wasn't Bombardier Medal. After hit he only get 1 frag. It may look like double kill but true is KV-2 finished KV-85 in brief moment before M44 shell landed
This is an arty dream game. This is how I try to play when I choose arty. I wish I had a game or two at this level of performance. Even though the enemy makes these kinds of errors, that M44 still well deserves that victory. Gratz to him - got to be the finest arty game I've ever seen. Drowning on purpose is something that I never consider. It's the cowards way out no matter what vehicle you drive. I've had dead teammates telling me to drown many times in a "1 v X" and I've always responded "Negative". Fight to the bitter end - If they take my health then they earned it.
I dont get why you would sacrifice the points you get from giving one final HE to someone in the face. It seems counter intuitive. (I used to play arty a lot. Not these days though) Never deliberately drowned myself (Although i did put bert into the river a few times back before it was was nerfed to T3 levels. - Looks like a fish - moves like a fish - Steers like a cow :)
@@spodula Yeah, sacrificing yourself and robbing yourself of that one last chance for a TD mode blast to the face ---- that kind of thinking really baffles me.
Yeah never understood the drowning either. Remember when I was with three other arties. (Backs hen there could be 4 or more arties on a team) our team was destroyed, so we just charged down the hill blazing against 9 enemy tanks. We got decimated but still was hilarious
@@dunringill1747 People don't do it when they have a shell loaded, they do it when they've just fired and know they'll be dead before their 30+ second reload happens.
@@ainslieberrafella Maybe I'm being strange here, but I just don't see suicide as an option on how I want to play. I could be 100% out of ammo and I still won't suicide. They have to earn the win. I'll try to hide and go for the draw if I'm empty. Or I'll maneuver for a jump on someone. If that doesn't work - I'll try to ram the softest tank I see before I go down. Gotta take the risk for even a slight chance of dealing damage. And if it doesn't happen - oh well, at least I tried. The enemy deserves the kill.
So, the reasoning behind favoring the top down view over the angled view is it gives much more precise control over the reticle once you understand how the reticle responds to terrain and mousing over a vehicle's collision model (the game engine will draw the trajectory line through the point on the vehicle you mouse over and center the reticle graphic where the trajectory line intersects the terrain) in order to give you an idea of vehicle's height at various points of the vehicle (Such as the turret roof, engine deck, etc) and give you a fairly accurate picture of how likely you are to splash the target as well as its direction and speed. You end up getting A LOT more information out of the top down view than the angled view, but it's not as intuitive to use as the angled view is, which is a lot more newbie accessible. Where the angled view suffers most is when attacking targets fighting from reverse slopes or at a significant altitude advantage relative to the artillery, or mobile targets on uneven terrain.
You're no better. Arty is arty, stop thinking you're above anyone. You claim to recognize instances of people being assholes to one another, arties drowning themselves in this case. If you actually cared about not being a dick to people on WoT then you wouldn't be playing that scumbag arty class anyway.
Have they nerfed the M44 since this recording? The re-aim and reloads are crazy good. I play close support Arty and there is something magical about supporting 3 friendlies in a narrow pass with good angles and stopping a 7 tank push.
I've seen so many non-arty players drown themselves. In arty I go down fighting: drowning is for inexperienced arty players or just those that play arty for missions and believe all they're told.
It definitely is. Hitting targets, specially moving targets is easier from the top down view than the angled view. The only time the second angled view is the better choice is when there are some obstructions like rocks, mountains and windows and you need to aim on vertical. There are some maps with weird locations where aiming from top view is impossible as the reticle jumps sticking to the nearest map element. Like K8, J9 Glacier when shooting from southern base, the path is through the mountain, some of the rocks are forming a ceiling and it's impossible to shoot there with arty without the angled view. But every other situation the top view is best to get more consistent hits.
@@aristocraticcthulhu3831 that was coming from the TH-camr who runs incognito so he can slaughter mere mortals in peace... Yeah, I saw that rant. Yep, I drive a couple of arty out of all the tanks I have in the game; I've been nuked by other arty players and unicums in OP tanks I can't get; but I'm not gonna shit on another teammate who helps me pull a win outta certain defeat, no matter what they happen to be driving. Circon lost me on that one.
@@1slotmech You could just remove arty though and balance tanks to be not untouchable. And when the player wouldnt be in an arty he might be able to give support in a different way. Also think about how the T95 player must have felt. Yeah arty is balanced and fun.
@Krytrephex Noone is "overlooking" that worthless hypothetical. The same arguement could be made for every single aspect of the game: TDs, camoflage, wheeled vehicles, open maps, channel maps, OP tanks, etc. Of course you could remove any element, and the game would need to be rebalanced to some degree. I mean, you could say the same about any game: remove cleats from soccer, or raise the hoop in basketball. Those parameters are NOT the point of the game, just like arty is NOT the point of WoT. The whole point is that a game had been created with certain parameters, and you play within those parameters, hopefully taking them into account. Learn to play within the parameters. Just like real life - learn to play with the circumstances you have instead of trying to wish away the things you dont like.
I love taking the uphill position to get the acceleration advantage on the enemy while waiting out his own reload before making his move around the rock. Allstar SPG.
Here we see, that playing Arty is more as just "sit, wait, click", like most of the peeps are pretending it is. Of course, not everyone does - or is even able to do - what he did here, but still, a good arty-player knows how to use his tracks ans splash ;)
@@laszlopap8271 Yep, with the HEAT ammo this arty was broken a lot..... I mean crushing tier 8 for 700 hp every 15 sec with 260 pen wasnt really balanced for a tier 6 SPG
im mostly playing arty and whenever i see an allied arty trying to drive towards the water to drown themself, i just shoot the fool to track them. also, i try to focus less on the targets i want to shoot and focus more on where my team requests artillery support. being a good artillery player means that you support your team without a doubt. a bad artillery player cares only about getting as many kills as possible.
What this player did would be impossible in a lot of other arty. The most lack a combination of mobility and a flexible gun. The American arty are the best imo.
Good video -- very exciting. As an arty player myself and in defence of many good arty players, I must say I would never drown myself to deny the enemy a kill.
The most satisfiying and fleeting moment is when you hit those fast moving ebrs (t8 prem, t9, t10). Its not those slow moving maus or t95, yeah sure you can hit them but with the amount of hp pool they had, they'll shrugged it off compared to ebrs.
Damn bro this guy is so skilled he sat on the back of the map 70% of the time and then the enemys played like my dead grandma at the end.. this game was incredible, SPG players are so skilled ggs bro!

Great performance but a big shout out to the other team for allowing such a great replay to get made.
i usually play dont play arty. but when i "tried" the tier 6 french arty (cant remember name, amx 105 F3 or something like that) i REALLY enjoyed it. i didnt enjoy any other arties than that one. it is literarly perfect for me.
Little Raptor the AMX 13 F3 is my favorite tier 6 Artillery, I just wish I was good at hitting my targets with artillery as a whole
4842 games for my SU-8, from Australia, play with 250ms ping delate.
Amx 13 F3 i loved that arty.. the tier 7 was so shit because it was basically the tier 6 with worse conceal -_- i would rather play the F3 all day.
tier 7 is lilbit more fun for me , but 8 is not worth it
Ah yes, as long as you have fun right? All about you and not your team? Players like you piss me off so much.
That reminds me of the battle I had from back when Arty had no stun.

The Enemy : Platoon of 3 IS-3

The last IS-3 won with only left 32 HP because of RNG.
u can tell that after the enemy team failed so bad against one arty that people are having toxic dms from each other
Artillery Standoffs are probably one of the most nerve crushing situations... But damn, I love them... It depends so much on RNG and Cold Blood...
More mobile? A few arties are more mobile than a KV-2, but a lot of the heavy hitters are not fast enough to outrun a melting glacier.
kV2 is basically an arty behind a corner to declare BROWNalert in pants of sum light minded yoloer
the old arta was like this
It'S how you play when the enemy pushes toward you.
Just wow! Hats of to that guy for not just giving up👌👌
Dang, didn't know a WoT redleg had the strength to carry that many medals!!!
Never thought I’d ever consider seal clubbing in an SPG
Finaly an arty that actualy knows how to use a keyboard
I don't even play WOT but someone linked me this when were talking about the greatest gaming clutches of all time. 10/10 did not disappoint. Hell of a game.
This is my first time seeing a arty player winning the game, 1 vs 5 was epic, good player🖒
The last arty shotgunning the last enemy isn't that uncommon, but I have never seen an arty player get a Kolobanov's medal. This was very impressive.
The rules of artillery
1. Stop camping
2. Hellcats is artillery favorite food
3. Don't sit at the same fucking spot
4. Don't hide in the obvious bush
5. High and low tier Arties love to shoot Premium tanks for "Balancing reasons"

I play mostly SPG and TD. Years ago i had a nice Grill (in times when KV1-S was a clan war ruler) that scored 9 kills on now delated map, Dragon Pass.
I always play to the last shot. Actually I even got some medals for killing last enemy tank with last bullet. 😋

There are a lot of players who would still have done it and lost the game rather than had an arty on their team.
If someone had TKed that arty player, the game would have been fun for all the other people in that game. As it was they were trying to have a fun tank battle and instead they got smashed from across the map by an enemy they couldn't counter.
That was, boys and girls, a work of art of a true master .... respect to the maximum ....
Well, these days I played the M44 again, after maybe several years.
And yes, that little arty is fun!

2:15 that wasn't Bombardier Medal. After hit he only get 1 frag. It may look like double kill but true is KV-2 finished KV-85 in brief moment before M44 shell landed
How to avoid arty:
Social distancecy
Arty gets binoculars and trained crew, and it's a fast arty (French or American, of FV304), so you are screwed anyway.
1 arty vs 6 enemies
ARTY: HOLD MY BEER
Not these days though)
Never deliberately drowned myself (Although i did put bert into the river a few times back before it was was nerfed to T3 levels.
Shh... the victims don't need to know that... 😀
I never drown my arty and report anyone who does for unfair playing
same !
On Mercinaries arty either try and fight while moving (you can geuss what happens) or they give up once they get shot and just look up and stand still
I wonder if that reporting people ever did anything!
"stop camping"
-Edvan(AEG)
Good to see QuickyBaby approves of the play style I have with SPGs
As an arty player hitting the "g" key tends to make your shells go high and behind the intended spot. ps, I have drowned in my arty, never on purpose.
I've seen so many non-arty players drown themselves. In arty I go down fighting: drowning is for inexperienced arty players or just those that play arty for missions and believe all they're told.
I personally dont like the basic G view, but if you have the arty battle assistant mod,it gets good.
The round goes high/behind because you are placing the aim spot on the center mass of the tank. Remember: the aim spot is actually on the ground.
But every other situation the top view is best to get more consistent hits.
literally just came from rewatching Circonflexes Artillery rant, hmm
It's a great and still very valid rant.
@@aristocraticcthulhu3831 that was coming from the TH-camr who runs incognito so he can slaughter mere mortals in peace... Yeah, I saw that rant. Out of the thousands of times he's gotten hit by arty, one (very lucky) shot 1-shots HIM and he goes off the rails. How dare they?!??!? Meanwhile, the regular joes out there who don't run XVM or POV mods deal with arty every damn day, who don't live in the game and get shit on for being muppets... by the same TH-camr. There's a replay he posted where he whould have never won the game EXCEPT for the arty who actually read their map, moved when they needed to and supported him by killing the T95 that was about to kill him, and then he shit all over them for being arty after the game and claimed all the credit for the win.
SU-8 has a slow traverse, which is what the M44 took advantage of. (I did that to a Hummel once in mine. 😀)
Here we see, that playing Arty is more as just "sit, wait, click", like most of the peeps are pretending it is. Of course, not everyone does - or is even able to do - what he did here, but still, a good arty-player knows how to use his tracks ans splash ;)
he does have x3 marks of excellence on his barrel very skilled played knowing where to position himself and where to aim
