I can not thank you enough for taking the time to make this video tutorial (research time and learning). Thank you. Retired BBC picture editor returning to filmmaking as a hobby with my aging Sony Z1.
Thanks for the great tutorial.I have 2 of the Sony HDR-FX1.I agree they are great cameras.I am trying to keep using the 2nd one if i find a repair shop that could check the heads error, but the cameras feel great to film with & feel more professional with that larger camera in hand , i just need to figure how to capture to a mac mini.Any articles on that ?.
To enable the HDVSplit Preview window, install FFDshow 32bit version 4532. Untick all video formats except MPEG 2 with the Libavcodec. Untick all audio formats except MP1, MP2. You'll then get the Preview window working (including on Win 10 64bit), which is a great help when your camera screen fails!
Hello there. I have some problem with the camera Sony HVR-Z1U when i want take a clips form inside the miniDV, i doing Exactly what you instruct, but when i started capturing the clips, only the camera replay the clips and the computer switch to state can't connect, when the camera finished replaying, a computer return connect, so i can't capturing the clips to computer, can you tell me what kind of error then i will fix it, thankyou so much
Thank you for the video. We own a Sony Z1 and have captured HDV video via Pinnacle 510 USB external card to Pinnacle Studio 14 editor/importer. It works very fine but doesn't give the preview (that is given capturing DV). Now we look forward testing "HDV Split", expecting to watch a preview. We are going to try either win10 or 7.
You could capture the analogue signal.. Haven’t checked yet to see if it will still be converted to HD though.. also that way adds in an extra 2 conversions.. A comment above mentions a memory stick adapter instead of tape ? I thought those cards in cams only captured Stills but if I check and find video can be saved to the Duo SD adapter card that would be good.. I use FireWire all the time with a copy of Sony Vegas 14 (From Kickass) I do have an old WinTv card in a Win7 PC and that captures SVid and composite signal from an old DSR 570ws cam I use and I must say I can hardly see a difference in quality but those captured files are large so they may need to be rendered smaller in Vegas
@@nickfatsis9607 Hi Nick.. Just finished Reading my comment and I don’t even know why I mentioned Cards ! ? I have old Sony cams and know the cards are for stills… I also have a couple of z1 cams that have faulty decks so now use a FireWire recorder… P.S I see now.. Someone in another comment mentioned some sort of card adapter.. Pinnacle 510 USB capture card which I assume takes in the analogue signal from Z1

Ah ! The fun of using tapes 😊
Thanks for this ... needed it. One thing this has done for me - realize and appreciate how far smartphones have come and changed our lives.

You can use a memory stick pro duo micro sd card adapter in place of a tape, which acts as an sd card. Much easier than using a tape.
can u give me a link or something for the adapter
Where would you plug in the memory stick?
Says some very vague things+refuses to elaborate= a wonderful combination! 😂

Question is will it work on windows 10? give a feedback if it does..
@@sting64az It doesn't give a preview on windows 10, but it works. It creates .m2v and .m2t files.
How does one do this with a MacBook Pro?
Do you have a thunderbolt input on it?
Appreciate the video!
Thank you!
Is there a way to do it without firewire?

@@sergeantcrow this camera doesn't have a facility for a memory card, it's tape only.
