Years ago, I learned the trick of Blue DAWN Dishwashing Liquid. It cuts through almost everything, leaving a neutral odor. I'm so glad that you were able to tackle this problem without losing your together time. The Festival seems to be wonderful and thank you for sharing!
Hi Leon ! I hope all is well. It was great that we were able to do it together. Definitely not the most glamorous job but we learned along the way. Appreciated the kind note ! Best Ed and Patricia.
When fitting a new toilet into our boat which had been used as a live aboard for 5 years, I thought before I install the new pan, and hoses, I should check the seacocks. She had been on the hard for 6 months, and the head was cracked and the hoses were all clogged up with unmentionable stuff, where someone had tried to repair it. I nonetheless had no problem with the inlet stop cock, however the main discharge ball valve was seized solid, presumably blocked with hardened stuff which had set like concrete. I rammed a plastic bag full of tissues into the outlet from outside the hull and then poured a mixture of vinegar, WD40 and washing up soap down the pipe and left it to sit for a couple of hours. I think I will patent the brew because it blew that crud out of there like I'd given the boat an enema, ball valve is nice and free and no more crud.
Great job guys, it was so hard to get the limescale out so hope the vinegar will do the trick! We will continue with fresh water since we have installed a Schenker Zen 150l watermaker.
Hi guys, we have a 34' beneteau yacht and have done many blue water trips on her. We have a manual pumping toilet and haven't had one bit of trouble. Our success is to put one scoop of vanish oxidisation powder once a day, then give a quick flush through with fresh water if available. Never had any blockages in all the miles that we have done , make sure the powder is the oxiginated one, this also stops all the awful smells. Happy sailing everyone. Ps we are two oldies, 76 & 74 years young. If we can do it, anyone can. Captain Morgan and madam lash.
Captain Morgan and Madam Lash, thank you so much for such a kind note ! Super appreciated the tips! We will definitely follow your advises. Truly hope to meet you guys out there in the ocean one day. Best Ed and Patricia.
Wow, that's a lot of scale in a short period of time. I hope that lowering the ph works. Is it worth converting the toilet to fresh water? Las Fallas looked amazing...
We had our heads switched to fresh when boat was in Les Sables. Jabsco solenoid protects the fresh water system and the heads are much better for it. Also wrap your foul pipes in aluminium tape now whilst still new and no smell will permeate.
Thanks Nick for the message. Did not know about the aluminum tape. That’s a great tip ! Super appreciated. We will have soon a dual system fresh and sea water. All the best Ed
@@SailingJoy Dual is even better - that’s what we wanted, but it was lost in translation with YCS! I’ve taped ours - I’m trying to prove a negative - but we don’t have odour!
@@nickmerritt yes! I will definitely do it in the future if we have to remove hose again. We do not have any smells on Joy even after almost year of delivery which I believe is good but don’t want to risk having it in the future. Best Ed
Most large Boats / Yachts have water makers. Would save time problems if they could just flush with fresh water. Imagine never needing to do that again 👍
We just give it a good flush after every use, never had a problem with smells or blockage. Occasionally we will put dishwasher detergent through the pipe also.
The camera work under the deck, looked like when a doctor does a video assisted surgery to remove a gall bladder or stomach. You learn something new everyday. I've been following a You Tuber for the past 2 years, and this never happened.

Valeu Oscar ! Um grande ideia muito obrigado. Fez falta aqui isso. Abraços
All those "fun" tasks of owning a boat.. Be safe Joy crew! Great episode and welcome back!
Thank you !!! Hahaha. Yea lots of fun indeed. Best Ed and Patricia.
What a nice video very pleasant and easy to follow. I love how you ended it :) Thank You Kind Sir
You are very welcome
Great video Ed well done. The festival looked so cool too.
Thank you !!! Yes it was a lot of fun ! They burned it all to the ground last night. Awesome cultural experience. 🤩🙏

We are are installing fresh water for when we are at the Marina. The dual system will definitely help. Best Ed
There is no product to flush in toilet that removes this scale (without the need to dismount all)?
Unfortunately in our case it was 100% blocked 🙃
@@SailingJoy yes I mean some sort of chemicals that melts it somehow. Should exist something... Perhaps someone in the channel knows what
We tried vinegar and the a acid but it did not work. But you are right there is a stronger acid that could do the trick.

Thanks Zack !

Yes. We have a water maker as well. Fresh water definitely doves the problem, but lowering urine s PH will also do the trick. Best Ed
Vinegar
Change the seawater intake on the head to fresh water and you wont have the problem again
Yes definitely on our plans ! We will have an option for fresh water rinse when in extended periods in a Marina. Best Ed

Hahaha. Creative work in action. 😊😊😊
No gloves. No management of cross contamination of tools and floor and walls etc by spillage of the waste black water.
Yes you are right. Always wear gloves.
Maybe some Coca Cola would do the work, kkk. Just joking, but who knows....Beautiful Valencia.
Hahaha. Coca Cola Will work for anything !!! I agree ☝️! 👍🤩
