- What makes a great silage pit/clamp loader driver? We think we’ve pretty much found it all here in one, and we think you’ll agree when we say Kevin Finn from Galway seems to tick a lot of the boxes.
Thank you to Enda Sweeney and his silage crew for the opportunity to produce this clip.
Produced by FlyBy Photos Using our state of the art Drones our pilots keeps the camera moving with the action enabling us to capture outstanding footage form angles which are simply not possible for the hand held camera.

The man that rolls the pit is the man that makes the silage.
He's doing a fantastic job in a tight/square space. Building the stack beatifully, and I liked how he 'walked' that whole load up. It could do with better compacting though I think
skilfully done; very close to the edge...and it's a long way down! Good skills indeed. Nice job.
Ariel pics were nicely done too!
Excellent to watch with nice steady flying top work.
well this silage loader driver has a lot of skill! :) looks pretty clean and accurate!!!
Well done! What a classy operator.
I have to say I am impressed with the operator.
I pushed grass for 15 years and always said the loader driver should get more money than a tractor driver
1. Pushing the full load at once, doesn't matter its what the driver finds the handiest
2. Cleaning the radiator? When it's to hot it says to the driver that it is over heating so the driver doesn't need to keep an eye on the tempreture
Cool video thank you!
The loader driver is the most important person in the crew.end of story.a good loader driver is the difference between a contractor keeping or losing a job.
Conor Noonan 😂 ok whatever u say lad
@@paulohoulihan368 I would of thought price and reliability would be more important . To make good silage the clamp needs well rolled now !
Boy can put up a pit, no question. In theory all the comments about the banks not getting packed are absolutely right.... yet I've put up enough pits the same way this dude is doing.... including my own at home, and as long as it's covered well there's not any more waste then with a mole heap, it does work.
Legend no other words
That was a brilliant video, but can we please hear some sounds to go with it?
He is a great operator.
Very good
Top class man on the pit ,very tight yard
how does pushing up the load in 1 go all about skill. that depends on the loader and size of buckrake
Some driver lad
Yeah looks a good job but no compaction on side and back,
great
have fun pitching mold
with a trailer of that size it will be easy to push it up in one go but we use trailers 2-3 times as big so that will be impossible
missed out compacting it fully to get as much in as possible and get as much air out as possible to avoid rotting
Hello were are situated your farm ? (Country) because I recherch à training intership
When you put the grass in the pit.Do you need a special cover for it to ferment ? If so how much does it cost
CidonaBrother12345 Gaming Yes usually one single large black LLPE cover.
thx
And to cost Varies per square foot.
ll i can see are 2 lads on sprongs doing the tidying after him
I guess we’ve been doing it wrong. In NE we use tractor with dozer blade and trucks to haul.
Chopping season is coming right up here in nh. You guys ready for it? We use a 7810 with a dozer blade and a 7430 with a normal bucket
Cool
sure how can you push the full load up without a beast of a yoke like that 😂 good buckraking but not being rolled enough plus the lads with the grapes are vital. outragous mess no matter what you have pushing up the the silage if theres not someone good at building the sides with the grape.
some people do it the right way!
Good pilot proper loader no komatsu wa scrap!!
Ho quarant'anni e da quando ho memoria che vedo fare dei "cumoli" d'insilato ma non ho mai visto una cosa del genere.
Good driver but I don't think we can all push the load up in one if it a 20t trailer
If anyone thinks he needs someone tidying up his mess ye better get yer eyes tested he is top claas on the pit I have worked with the man
It spot on..level and sloping the same .A lot of armchair loader drivers faulting it.
Not surprised he has time only gets a load of grass every now and then .what would he be like if he had 5 trailers waiting to tip different story. Been there and done it and no roller man with a cat it12
That loader driver is incredible. Some of the negative commentators below have absolutely no idea what they are talking about.
what if the machine isnt big enough to push it all up in one go how do you buckrake then ?
Scoop it up in bits or rip out from the sides
Exactly no flicking the grass its too sore on a machine
Good job but could do with a bit more rolling plus guys tidying up his mess on sides need to have credit too .
Ya it’s easy look tidy when there’s lads forking Lillie fuck
Lads
Paudie Maher ‘Lillie fuck ‘ come on you can do better than that 😂
nifty camera and drone operator too.......
Great vid and a sound operator,,,,a pleasure to watch, but why bother putting these vids up when all they do is attract comments from self-appointed "experts" from all over the place??.
Nice video - by coincidence, my neighbour asked me to film him collecting some silage at the beginning of July - looks like I missed out on capturing the best bit. Check my video out. Which quad are you using? I assume you had fpv hooked up - you kept the action nicely framed throughout. So far I'm sticking to line of site for my quad videos - nice when it works, but a bit hit/miss sometimes.
this seems backwards in our heavily automated world ....bring on vertical drone silage compaction.....i dunno sounds awesome anyway!
I have done this a few time's not as easy as it looks
+Peter Aernouts I doesn't look easy. :-)
Needs dual wheell,s for better compactions atherwise good operator .good compaction mean less spoil better fermation in the for top quilty sliage.
Mikeo Sullivan it's actually better with single tires. You need as much weight as possible on one spot, by adding dual wheels you spread the weight out. So you have to drive over it more often to get the same result
wouldn't it be easier if there would be concrete walls on the side, so you just have to push the silage to the walls.
Id say if you were happy to pay for them the farmer wouldn't disagree with you
And plus thats lazy boy stuff, You need to properly pack a silage pit so it doesn't go bad with air in it. Theres no doubt this guy knows what hes doing. very skill full
What makes a great silage loader driver.... A good man with a four pronged pike does
Q,What makes a great silage loader driver in the pit.
A, confidence, skill and a brain.
and a 50 euro 💶
Dass die englischen Anhänger alle so kleine schmale Reifen haben, obwohl damit übers Feld gefahren wird
why no sound
Unfortunately uTube pulled the music, and there are too many views it wont let me change to something else.
how about rolling the clamp - the most important part of silage making? Keep the pitch forks handy boys! you're gonna need to fork a lot of water off the top in the winter!!
Yep. I'd lose every customer if I left piles that loose. Oxygen is the enemy in silage. especially for the small farms where every ton has to count.
needs way more rolling. its all fun and games making it look pretty but that wont make good silage.
Mike Stott, i don't know how you guys doing it, but we don't need rolling to get good silage
Weather helps too..Plus the covering ...It well packed ..
meant waste in comment!
My uncle is the loader driver Kevin finn is his name
***** driving that close to the edge to make sure you roll it right is what separates the men from the boys.
Jack Fahy Thanks for posting this. What is holding that silage up?
suffolkshepherd silage stacked and compacted
***** nobody gives a shit
***** your probably are 13 acting like your older and know everything
Dont need to much skill on that machine try 2wd tractor with rake on back and no power steering torture
afrvvvgvgvgvgbg sbgbgbvgvgvgvg ford 4600 with twose push off buckrake😁
Paul O Houlihan massey ferguson 165 mckenna buckrake😅
connor lockhart super dexta with home made non push of buckrake. a 165 was a big too in them days🤣
Try an 800hp silage harvester spitting 10 trailers at you with your 2wd tractor and rake. This requires more skill than any little take your time outfit.
Takes more skill than any little tractor. 800hp silage harvester spitting trailers at you every minute you don’t have any time to spare.
Silage packing good job milk cows t years did silage work hall shit clean lots feed cows pick up hay 5 years on farm
miss the music
O
I'm arriving late to this discussion!
Nice, tidy job by a skilled driver and call me pernickety but.....
The edges are not compacted in any serious way and they are way too steep to cover properly. This means that there will be huge wastage on the sides. Either reduce the steepness of the sides (difficult in that small space) or build some walls that the loader can compact the silage against.
Also, that just isn't safe! Slip of the foot on the throttle or miss the brake and you've caused a lot of damage to an expensive loader. Hopefully that's all the damage done.
What makes a good loader driver... Preferably one that doesn't tip the fecking thing off the side of the pit... JULIAN yes I am talking about you.. :D
Why don’t they build walls on the sides of bunker must have a lot of rot
ha 2 boys flat out on the forks.....
Tidy operator
Try a sprong n a pair of 4wd wellies🤣😂 all them bragging rights ppl b unreal shove sum stuff they wud
If you clean the grass off the radiater throw it in trash not back into the silage
no point of packing the sides if not rolled
pushing up the whole load in one go is a bad.thing
Sure half its going off the side of the pit
damien crowley did u even Watch the video lul
Small Farms in a Nutshell:
>the Silo is not a walled chamber, but a plain mound on a flat surface
>a flat, |enclosed| surface no less
>Mom and Dad have to physically shovel spillage back up top
>forage drivers have to reverse for about 100 Feet before dumping, everytime
BUT THANK THE HEAVENS WE HAVE A GOOD LOADER DRIVER
(and no compactor at all)
You pretty much nailed it.
but ppl, which think they have to show off and fking cramp that trailer all the way up the silo are the worst lol i could freak out everytime
BIGGGG THUMB DOWN (no Sound)
jeppe Søe well what did you want to hear? The sound of the drone propellers?!?!
Dude really doesnt know what is standard in the real world. Not enough rolling no question bout it. Mickey Mouse job..
Cool video thank you!
Cool
