** More photos and videos on my Instagram as I go through 1.5 years worth of videos and images of my accidental life in Tonga. @tongadiaries **
A third (if my maths is correct...) of Tonga's population live in this city, although it's smaller than the village I grew up in. In fact, it has half the population of this small village.
It's a big difference from living and working in Beijing's 2nd ring road.
As someone who loves to be in lively places surrounded by different things going on, lots of people, and lots of things to do - it's been tough.
I take you on a walk through the main street in the "big city" which pretty much makes up the whole of the capital city. There are a few roads off this street with various smaller shops and restaurants, as well as markets at the harbour. But this is really it.
From one of the biggest capital cities in the world, to a capital city on one street. Welcome to Nukualofa, Tonga's capital city.
    Population: 23,000

    ------------------ A Country Without COVID-19, You Say? ------------------
On 19th March I got stranded on Tonga, a small country in the middle of the pacific ocean with a population of 100,000.
I took a flight from Fiji to Tonga and that afternoon Fiji reported its first case of coronavirus. From then on, the rest is history - recorded on video for your enjoyment!
These corona-free diaries include lockdowns, fluffy dogos, and cyclones.
Let me know what you'd like to see more of in the comments below!
    Stay safe, stay sane.

Wow I was born in Tonga 71yrs ago and left at the age 17 and I don’t even recognize any part of these. The streets were very clean and few cars and buses. Everything looks different now and I don’t even recognize anything at all except the tree to the old wharf and the Palace. Market was at the Mala’e near the palace every Saturdays. Wow!!

Just reading about you (18 Aug.2021) brought me further to your TH-cam posts. You certainly have had quite the adventure, Bravo for keeping so positive. Regarding this whole Covid mess, it certainly looks as if the fourth/final wave is starting it’s push, which will run through fall/winter well into New Year of 2022.
Basically, this is the pattern/timeline of the Spanish Flu. It would seem to me more practical to stay put given that you have managed so well so far. Whatever it takes, I wish you well. 🤞🤞🙏🏻🙏🏻 . PS, ❤️ love your fur friends.

I haven't visited Tonga for the last 6 years but it is so interesting how different our experiences are. The locals were at first a bit careful I would say, which is understandable considering how they were/are not used to having visitors/travelers but after a couple of days they hugged me and welcomed me and showed me so much love. I have the best memories from Tonga and it's amazing people and wish to return one day!

Yes. The useful building on the left with Fiji Airways. That's where I had my "almost breakdown" on Friday, March 20th, as I was told that they wouldn't let me board the plane on March 21st... And that was after I had already tried to find my way home via NZ and Australia (which of course was futile).
I then went to the post bar and met B. and M. from Germany there, and so I realised I wasn't the only one stranded. 😂

0:12 - I recognize the market and the coffee shop. I visited in 2019 onboard cruise ship Queen Victoria and I went to a resort near to a reef where I had loads of Maka and Tonga Lager

Sorry but found this to be a very bad vlog. All we could see was you taking up 3/4 of the screen and couldn’t really see much of anything else. It could have been walking down any street almost anywhere
