    I'm from the Philippines and I get that labor is cheaper here, but it would be more dignified and less offensive if people outside the country would pay more than $5 an hour (that's not even minimum wage here) so the ones they employ would have a higher quality of life. I was enjoying the video until I heard that one and had to say something- just food for thought.

    • @johnpaulpunzalan8562

Tbh he could have gone without saying the cost, and just say 'cheaper'. It's the tone and the laugh that make it so offensive.

    • @vickybeee2507
      @vickybeee2507 3 ปีที่แล้ว +81

      @@Evraaah Exactly. What's worse is everyone else in this comment section doesn't seem to have a problem with it hahaha :( I know Ali probably didn't mean to offend, but it's disappointing really that he can explicitly say the words "take advantage" of the difference between the developing and developed world without batting an eye. Corporations already take advantage of this, but I'd hope that individuals who would benefit massively from the labor of someone from my country would have empathy to pay them what they deserve, not just what they can get away with.

    "People would rather be unhappy than uncertain" - I've been thinking about this a lot and I definitely agree. However, it is important to acknowledge the level of privilege that comes with choosing uncertainty over "unhappiness"(assuming it means being stuck in job that just pays the bills). Unhappiness can be tied to a more stable lifestyle- albeit mundane. But it sometimes means a roof over your head, being able to pay the bills, being able to feed your kids, and knowing that you will pull through in a medical emergency. "Risking it all and seeing what happens" doesn't always come from courage, but also safety nets, whether it be your parents, your savings...or your parents' savings. If you are starting from scratch and you have dependents (whether it be your parents like in the case of South Asian culture or your kids), uncertainty may often not be a choice. Saying that as a fresh college graduate with dependents. Anyway, just offering my perspective, otherwise great video Ali!

      Thank you for saying this!

    • @jackiedelvalle
      @jackiedelvalle 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I thought exactly this when he was talking. Risking everything when you're 23 and don't own much, don't have dependents is very different from risking everything when you're 43, with a family and whole bunch of commitments that you can lose. Not impossible, but much, much riskier.

    • @patriciam6184
      @patriciam6184 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jackiedelvalle Exactly!! When you have a family and commitments, sometimes taking that risk doesn't mean you're the only one who has to deal with the consequences. If your dependents don't consent to the risk, it's unfair to go and take the risk anyway and have them deal with the consequences just because you wanted to.

      This book is bullshit. Apple, Tesla, Amazon, Walmart, Southwest, Skadden, The Beatles were not built off a Four-hour Work Week, those places or groups took massive amount of time and brain power to stay on course. Damn I really hated this book. Lazy ass Millennials. I’m a millennial myself and we always trying finding a shortcut for everything. Enough of that shit.

      @@franciscocolin2008 lol bro you missed the point he's not talking about building the next Apple, Tesla, or Microsoft, if this is your goal then you might want to look for a different book, he's talking about having time and freedom to live your life while you're young and healthy and also have the money coming in from say a business or something to sustain yourself. I'm glad you're passionate and determined to work hard but you also have to think about for example someone like Steve Jobs right, built one of THE best companies in the world with a cult following and died of cancer at age 56? I mean extreme example here but just saying it's about living life not working for mills for the sake of it.

      People going on the streets for human rights while the Quran have addressed many issues 1450+ years ago.. here is an example..
      ‏(13) O mankind, indeed We have created you from male and female and made you peoples and tribes that you may know one another. Indeed, the most noble of you in the sight of Allāh is the most righteous of you. Indeed, Allāh is Knowing and Aware.❤️

    I am SHOOK that this is the book that most changed your life. While some of the concepts are decent, overall I thought it was overhyped, and his practical advice on how to accomplish the "new rich" lifestyle is already pretty much obsolete. But that is the beauty of books, something in it obviously resonated with you and triggered some powerful growth. On a side note, I inadvertently got someone fired because of this book. I think I may make a video about it because you and Daniel Inskeep both mentioned this in your videos in the last week and it would make for a pretty good video.

    Me at work: "I don't wanna check my Emails, that is where the Emails are"

    Being uncertain can also lead to unhappiness. I appreciate the point but it’s not so clear cut. Also, living in a developing country we don’t get as many opportunities or fallbacks as those of you in the west. I guess we’d appreciate a more nuanced approach

    I am not sure why people fall for this book. The only people that praise this book are those who eventually ended up being rich. I smell confirmation bias. In reality, you need more than 4 hours a week to become successful. And do you really think that you just work 4 hours to produce content of this magnitude? Don't bulls**t us.

    • @user-yk5tc5mz8c
      @user-yk5tc5mz8c 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      i think the point isn't to work 4 hours to begin with but develop a business so you only have to work 4 hours once it's thriving (obviously difficult in practice lol)

    TH-cam recommended your video from 2018 on how to study better - I'm a university instructor and always looking for compelling videos to share with students. Then went down the rabbit hole watching other excellent and interesting videos, including the 9 passive income ideas. I'm trying to picture any US doctor going through medical school with the thought of "how can I get to a place where I can choose whether to be a doctor", given the crippling cost of medical school here. Definitely highlights the difference between our healthcare systems.
