I definitely agree that Sunny is a wonderful protagonist who truly embodies unity and is very grounded and humble. As something of an idealist myself I can also attest to being prone to getting emotional which is a wonderfully fitting flaw for her. She's quite underrated and it's good to see some appreciation for her!
Sunny is absolutely wonderful ^^ She really does a good job at portraying that kind of faith in humanity and the strong will to make the world a better place!
great video why do people want from sunny starscout? do they want her to learn about magic like twilight? she's supposed to spread hope and positivity also i hate when people think her job of selling smoothie and telling ponies to grow fruits and vegetables is useless and pointless because to me it's important not only earth ponies can eat healthy but do something useful with their magic.
I would defend Twilight as a character and the flaws that she has, but I've done that in the comments of another G5 defense video I've watched. Instead, I'd like to address Argyle. Him being dead served as added motivation for Sunny in the first place, as he didn't live to see his own ideals of unity between the pony races come to fruition, and he is the very reason she had those ideals and desires in the first place. Had he still been alive, she would definitely still have that desire, but arguably it's not as strong of a motive when he's still alive and isn't necessarily left with the reputation as the kook of Maretime Bay. He died with nobody caring for him other than his daughter, and whoever his wife was. And he wasn't "shoved down our throats." Argyle only came into play a few times throughout the franchise, being in a few noted but still minor moments in a few episodes of Tell Your Tale, the opening to the G5 comics, the entirety of Starscout Code, and the beginning and climax of the movie. That's not that a lot of time when you compare to how much time we spend with other characters, most notably with Alphabittle upon the reveal that he was Misty's father all along. And before that, he was more of a minor supporting character who didn't serve as anyone's motivations, aside from maybe Queen Haven and eventually Misty.
While i agree and disagree on this video, the one point why I dislike Sunny as a protagonist is that it ruins Twilight's character, that they spent 9 seasons working on, just to make a (somewhat) good movie.
Theres sooo many things I dont like about G5, but I'm still curious how it will end and I do like some things about it. I hate-watched it at first, but it ended up growing on me. I have hope it'll get better. Im kinda sad that the 3D show is done. It's a potentially unpopular opinion, but I preferred it over the 2D. I haven't touched the 2D series yet. It seems more difficult to make things come across as serious in that style (like the battle between Sunny and Opaline, for example). The show is goofier than I'd like, so it may work out anyways. The characters fix conflict way too quick and easy for my taste, so I'd like to see just a bit more of a struggle like Mlpfim had lol. Sunny, Izzy, and Opaline are my fav characters. Sunny seems over-hated. The trend where Twilight said "that magic wasn't yours to give" was neat, but I personally don't think it suited her character. I think Twilight would be relieved to see unity was starting to come back again since she worked so hard for it to happen back in the past. I wish g5 wasn't connected to g4, though. There's a lot of things that clash with the lore, so I like to think of it as an alternate universe where things are different, lol. i don't like how in season 2 of tell your tale she was willing to redeem allura after what she did in secrets of starlight and think she's not bad also the latest tell your tale episode made misty discover new secret room with magic in the bright house something that sunny should do it herself.
Sunny already has quite a bit of magical ability. Goodness knows that Misty needs a hobby. As for the Allura bit, I thought that showed a surprising degree of emotional maturity. Sunny didn’t consider Allura redeemed; she just gave her the benefit of the doubt. Which is fair, since everything Allura had done so far was just to get out of Starlight Ridge. It’s not the Mane 6’s responsibility or right to hunt down someone who hasn’t done anything to the Equestrian ponies yet.
Sunny and Misty are way more developed, tridimensional and relatable than most of g4. Inclding Twilight. And this happened in just a small fraction of screentime compared to g4.
