  • On today’s episode of Mega Mechanics: the dangers on a high wind, deconstruction project. One misstep could bring the mighty coal service conveyer belt to a standstill, and it’s up to the mechanical fitters to keep it moving. A sticky situation at the Rocky Point Sugar Mill calls from a quick fix from a hydraulic specialist.
Across Australia, the wheels of industry turn 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. These machines are tough and the teams of people running them are even tougher. From deep underground, to high in the sky, these heavy metal marvels are essential to our daily lives. But, what happens when these massive machines break down? Teams of mechanics, engineers, fitters, and boilermakers step up to battle against tight deadlines, in some of the harshest working environments on the planet.

42:40 - it's better to halt and go over schedule than try to remain within schedule, cause damage to the building etc and waste more time and money by doing so.
You can plan well ahead, but you cannot always factor the things Mr Murphy can do into your planning.

At the sugar processing plant you've got 5 guys standing around while one guy works. Reminds me of my workplace at American Airlines.

I did that sort of work for nearly 2 decades, but there isn't much of it left here where I live anymore.

Strange to have to call a Rexroth tech to change a heat exchanger. Airliner maintenance seems to be easier. Everything has to be by the book which comes from the plane builder. At the mills most jobs are determined what, how, and when by the maintenance people.

Glad to see Quantas still doing their own heavy maintenance. But how much do they outsource to China? I worked for American Airlines until they closed our Alliance Maintenance Base and sent my job to HAECO in China. 23 years and I was forced to retire.

The sugar mill's in-house maintenance has to call a contractor to do repairs? What do they pay the local good-ole-boys to make the phone call? Dead weight duds.

This film jumps around from each topic way too much. Just show us whats happening at one site, and move on. Finish the job, I don't want to keep coming back around.
