The other day I while waiting for samurai to drop. I started listen to DMIZ again and thought to myself "this guy's pen got sooooo much better over the years." Then kick push came on next and took it all back. Lupe's prime is whatever song you're listening to.
Samurai- the hook is quoted from a voicemail Amy left salaam remi about her head being filled with battle raps Mumble rap- essentially Amy walking in the park being grabbed by rhe mumbling guy who tells her every word will be a rhyme etc. Beginning her arc as a battle rapper “Samurai”. The adlibs at the end seem to show she wins her first battle. Real life she died in her sleep so that alarm clock was intentional and the ‘don’t make me resurrect’ bar. But if she wakes up after this is it all a dream or does she sleep after the battle? Cake- I think is her waking up and feeling her “new powers” feeling like a rap god Palaces- the most spiritual, last verse w the beat switch talks abt bad habits/troubles but the hook seems to imply she’s being enlightened to the beauty of the human experience. This one’s hard to read tbr. I’ve seen theories the mumbling guy in the park that gives her the powers is Lupe because it seems like a diff character more like himself on til eternity. I don’t fuckin know man he’s a genius I’ve listened thru bout 20 times that’s all I’ve got. You did great for a flat reaction to this shit mane👍
The Samurai song hits different when you know the back drop to the concept of the album. This song is describing Amy Winehouse life .. the last verse: "took a bath, read a book and went to sleep" (that was essential how she passed) she was looking through old pics and fell asleep drinking and never woke up. And that beat switch makes sense because that's the beginning of her "Hip-hop career" at least in this portrait by LuPe Track 2 is her getting her "rap powers" or being anointed with the samurai skill set.
Fav track is Til Eternity, but I love the whole album. No skips. Album is supposed to be influenced by Amy Winehouse as a battle rapper, the hook to Samurai is pretty much word for word what she said to someone in a voice mail. Beautiful album though, Lupe my GOAT.
16:40 big Lupe fan. He raps the way my mind writes, so it's super relatable the way he communicates while trying to hit all these ideas and he's an artist in the way he makes them work because people dont understand me, it sounds like ramblings to them.
Age doesnt make you change who you are, just brings you more in tune to the things that are important to you. Lu is a 🐐 and ive gotten older with him as a day 1 fan. This album is a 🎁 GIFT
In song 2 he's speaking a story as a metaphor with hip hop as a woman and mumble rap being a guy in a parking lot. After he mumbles to her she finds herself talking in mumble too.
I really can't express how good this album is. Lupe never disappoints!!!
Palaces hits different
Lupe doesn't have "a prime", Lupe's prime is the next album/song he drops.
His lyrical prime is T&Y and Pharaoh heights not saying he fell off lyrically or anything

Thanks for reacting to this, Lupe a 🐐. He's too criminally slept-on outside his fan base.

Thanks for picking it up man. This album, just like his career, will never be saluted enough. We really don't deserve him.

There's a reason he's a teacher for Rap theory at MIT. He's a damn genius. Always my #1.
Palaces is my favorite, it’s incredibly smooth
Listen to The Cool

In song 2 he's speaking a story as a metaphor with hip hop as a woman and mumble rap being a guy in a parking lot. After he mumbles to her she finds herself talking in mumble too.
Whole album is a mural(check the song out if you havent) me personally i think no.1 headband is at the top such a short yet dense and complex album🙌🏾🔥
Listen to all his albums but Drogas Light and Lasers.
His mixtapes are tough too.
