Great video Dave and Bob! Ironman could easily keep the race in Kona, one day, men and women racing simultaneously, by simply shrinking the field down to something manageable. it would actually make the race more attractive to athletes and more competitive. They could even raise the already silly money entry fee and probably cover their losses from head count x fee--but they won't do this because their focus is on revenue.
Great job guys. My vote would be to limit the field so men and women can compete on the same day without overloading the island. Hawaii is special and the IM championship is great fit. It gives folks more incentive to do whatever it takes to get to Kona if the bar is raised to keep the numbers down. On the other hand, very glad to see more and more folks (age groupers) taking the plunge and competing. Let's find other creative ways to achieve commercial desires. Maybe have an Age Grouper Championship in one of those other beautiful places for the other 5000 ish folks (~95% of starters I think) to sum up their year. Will allow some of those folks into the limelight, and spend some more time on age class placement. Just make it part of the sponsor requirement to support the Age Grouper championship. I ride reining horses, and the non pros are also 90% of participants. Without them, none of it works, so let's give them some attention (and have Bob give the top folks an interview!).
The reason to keep it in Kona is purely symbolic. It's not the most challenging course, there are plenty of other beautiful locations, and logistically it is a nightmare for both athletes and event organizers. Still love you both Bob & Dave.
If I ever qualified for the World Championship and they have it someplace other than Kona I'd be really disappointed! Maybe do it on different days...or different weekends if need be.
Very disappointing to hear men will be in Nice. Who made this disastrous decision? Kona is synonymous with World Championship. I'm old too, guys. Thanks, Bob. Thanks, Dave.
Dave Scott put the sport on the map. Along w Molina m Allen s tinley. We wouldn’t be where we are w o him He got me training for triathlon It’s also easier for those that come after.....the Germans the Australians the Germans the Norwegians Always it is easier for such. It should've been in San Diego...home of Triathlon

Interesting Dave is such an advocate of strength training and yet the Norwegians reportedly don’t do any strength training!?
